The Dem's New Plan: Fight Terror War from Hotbed of Okinawa?

Representative John Murtha has a plan!... And, Representative Nancy Pelosi has bought into it. The new plan is to fight the War on Terror from the terrorist hotspot of... Okinawa?

Hmm... Okinawa?

Now that is a plan! And, just when you thought the Democrats had no plan for National Defense,... it may have been a little muddied before... They come up with the "Okinawa Plan!" Pure Brilliance!

The Democrats are going to protect America from radical Islamists by redeploying troops to Okinawa, Japan!

Representative Murtha described more of his "Okinawa Plan" after the president's speech on the great progress being made in Iraq on Wednesday.

WAIT UNTIL YOU HERE THIS!

VIDEO HERE

In his rebuttal of the president's speech the suddenly popular John Murtha pulls numbers from an isolated poll claiming that 80% of Iraqis want the "broken and worn out" US forces to leave Iraq immediately. Murtha also claims that 45% of the people from Iraq want to kill Americans who are already "living hand to mouth". But, Murtha "cherry picks" (see Howard Dean) his data. Actually the poll results claim that suicide bombing against Americans and Brits is approved by nearly half of Iraqis. This, of course, is ludicrous. Why does he skip this bit of data? Could it be that he knows it is a crazy statistic from an isolated poll that most Americans would not buy!

Fred Barnes pointed out this nutty poll that Democrats like to quote on the FOX News Special Report Allstars this week. But, he is the only media person to say anything about the conflicting data from this poll. Will other Republicans challenge the Democrats on this isolated poll?

There are many more credible polls (where only 8% of Iraqis are blaming foreign forces for the troubles in Iraq!) out there that go against the bogus numbers from this confusing poll that Democrats are using in their talking points day after day.

But, back to the history behind the Democratic Okinawa Plan...

On October 22, 2002, Representative John Murtha voted "To Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq".

On September 16, 2003, Murtha joined with Democrats around Capitol Hill and made it clear that they intended to step up their aggressive criticism of Bush policies in Iraq.

On May 6, 2004, Representative Murtha called the Iraq War "unwinnable".

John Murtha called for immediate withdrawal of US forces from Iraq on November 17, 2005.

He voted against the immediate withdrawal on November 18, 2005.

On Wednesday, November 30, 2005, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi joined Rep. Murtha to withdraw troops from Iraq as soon as possible.

On Wednesday December 7, 2005, Representative Murtha revealed his latest plan...
to redeploy Iraqi troops in six months to Kuwait and Okinawa!

Okinawa? Okinawa?

Now the AP is claiming that Murtha's Tough Stance (of Retreat?) is Boosting His Profile!

Hat Tip to Fred Barnes and the Allstars!

Also, this post in no way is aiming to take away from the US Military Personnel already stationed in Okinawa.

and the conservative hawks are fighting the war from their keyboards and remote controls.

Umar,

That's right. Just like the LostKos, who traded in his uniform for the keyboard, now using words as weapons. And as the liberal chickens (opposite of conservative hawks) like to say: winning hearts and minds requires more than bullets. But they fail to recognize that one cannot be without the other.

Anyway, back to Murtha and the "Okinawa Plan." It all be funny, if it weren't so damn sad.

After al-Qa’eda terrorists in Somalia set off a roadside IED that killed 4 US military police personnel, Murtha advised the same cut-and-run strategy he has now proposed for US forces in Iraq. (Somalia, with its ready access to the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, was bin Laden's first choice for a permanent home base for al-Qa'eda.)

"Our welcome has been worn out," Rep Murtha told NBC's "Today" show in Sept. 1993, a month after 4 U.S. Military Police had been killed in Somalia by a remote-detonated land mine.

The Pennsylvania Democrat announced that President Clinton had been "listening to our suggestions. And I think you'll see him move those troops out very quickly.

Two weeks later, after 18 U.S. Rangers were killed in the battle of Mogadishu, Murtha visited U.S. forces in Somalia.

Afterwards, Murtha said the US had no choice but to pull out completely… to “cut and run”…

“There's no military solution. Some of them will tell you [that] to get [warlord Mohamed Farrah] Aidid is the solution. I don't agree with that."

Sound familiar? It should. It's the same line Murtha and his Democratic cohorts are using today. As Limbacher notes, however, the fact that Clinton took the advise of ”influential Democrat” John Murtha some 12 years ago, has had some decidedly deadly long-term consequences for the United States.

Limbacher notes that,

In a 1998 interview with ABC's John Miller, Osama bin Laden said that America's withdrawal from Somalia had emboldened his burgeoning al Qaida force and encouraged him to plan new attacks.

"Our people realize[d] more than before that the American soldier is a paper tiger that run[s] in defeat after a few blows," the terror chief recalled. "America forgot all about the hoopla and media propaganda and left dragging their corpses and their shameful defeat."

In other words, by following the advice of “pro-military” Democrat John Murtha in 1993 and withdrawing from Somalia in the face of terrorist resistance, President Clinton actually encouraged al-Qa’eda to more, bolder actions against US interests around the world.

The al-Qa’eda bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the USS Cole, and finally the 9/11 World Trade Center bombing itself were only the most notorious of those bolder actions yet to come.

Perhaps it is time to question not John Murtha’s patriotism or his devotion, but his vision, his capacity for strategic thinking, and most significantly his judgment, and ask why it is that a man with over 35 years uniformed service never attained a rank higher than Colonel.

Oh, to have the video or a transcript from Murtha's 1993 Today Show appearance.

No offense taken. Shee-yit, we're cramped enough here as is. Where the hell do they plan to stuff 100,000-plus more troops? More to the point, without further pissing off discontented locals?

Maybe Gov. Inamine of Okinawa Prefecture needs to go public and smack down Murtha's harebrained idea. He's already been moving heaven and earth to realign and pare back the American presence here.
