2 Are Dead in Afghanistan in Cartoon "Row"... Death Toll Rising

Update: The BBC is now reporting that 6 people were killed so far today in the "cartoon riots"!

Two people died when protesters turned on the American airbase (mistake) at Bagram, Afghanistan.

And...Officials in Lebanon have now confirmed that a demonstrator died on Sunday after jumping from the third floor of the Danish embassy in Beirut to escape a fire!

BBC reports of death in Cartoon Protests as protesters tried to take over the local police station!

Two Afghans have been killed at a rally against cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad, thought to be the first deaths in more than a week of protests.

Police in the eastern city of Mihtarlam fired on demonstrators after a police station came under attack, a government spokesman said.


More protests have been taking place around the world, following attacks on Danish embassies in Syria and Lebanon.

Hundreds of people took part in the morning demonstration in Afghanistan's Laghman province, in a second day of protests in the city.

One person died at the scene, and another died in hospital in the nearby city of Jalalabad. Three people are thought to have been injured.

Demonstrators shouted "death to Denmark" and "death to France", and called for diplomats and soldiers from both countries to be kicked out of Afghanistan.

"They want to test our feelings," protester Mawli Abdul Qahar Abu Israra told the BBC.

"They want to know whether Muslims are extremists or not. Death to them and to their newspapers," he said.

Thousands of people have also been demonstrating across Afghanistan.

Religious clerics were among the crowd in the provincial capital Mihtarlam and made speeches demanding the closure of Denmark's embassy and the expulsion of Danish forces based in Afghanistan, Nangarhari said.

British police are now studying film of the london protests from the weekend after complaints that protesters were trying to incite murder... Well yeah!
