No Gettysburg Address Required, But Say Something!
A typical front page from an American Wednesday morning newspaper.

St. Louis Post Dispatch
Where is President George W. Bush?
We all know he is facing the Europeans in Vienna and will have his hands full the next couple of days since the media had already prepared their Bush-bashing headlines before his plane even touched down...
But, what are President George W. Bush and his advisors thinking?
We know that Bush certainly will have his hands full with Iranian nuke talk and Cindy Sheehan and orange clad Gitmo protesters.
But, it's hard to imagine that Bush would not address the world events from Tuesday. It's also hard to imagine that it would not occur to someone on his staff to think about what just changed in the world on Tuesday!
On Tuesday, June 20, 2006 the world reports included this horrible news from Basra, Iraq:
A suicide bomber killed a woman and wounded five people when he attacked a crowd of elderly and disabled pensioners in the southern Iraqi city of Basra on Tuesday, police said. Then there was this shocking news of children and women used as human shields in Afghanistan:
The crowd were gathering to receive their monthly pension.
Police sources had earlier said the blast targeted a senior citizens' home neighboring the social care center.
Police said only one of the two explosive belts the bomber was wearing detonated. Witnesses saw three bomb disposal experts at the scene. Police said they were trying to defuse the second bomb on the attacker's corpse.
TALEBAN fighters used women and children as human shields as they tried to escape into the mountains of Afghanistan, British troops claimed yesterday. And finally, not since US soldiers were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu, has America witnessed the horrible slaughter of brave, young, American soldiers in such gruesome fashion as what was described on Tuesday in reports from Iraq.
The tactics were revealed in the first account by those who fought in one of the main battles faced by the men of 3 Para and the Royal Gurkha Rifles in Helmand province, where 3,300 British troops are stationed.
The Taleban’s use of human shields happened during a six-hour battle that began when British troops arrived in a remote area to flush out a suspected Taleban hideout.
And, as Americans learned more and more about the brave young men and their barbaric demise, the story grew more savage and shocking throughout the day.
America is feeling raw, enraged, confused, saddened and unsettled by this inhumanity.
So, where is President George W. Bush? Where is the comforting or determined speech that you would expect from a leader at this time?
It doesn't have to be an 30 minute address with an aircraft carrier in the backdrop, but how about using this "coincidental" information from Tuesday to define to the Free World and America what we are up against?
The terrorists pushed the moral argument back on the side of freedom, yesterday, despite what the Europeans say.
It doesn't have to be a Gettysburg Address, President Bush, but help yourself and remind America why we are fighting today...
Say something!
In related news, Tony Blair committed today that Great Britain would stay the course in Iraq.
And, Japan denied that they would be pulling out of Iraq despite the misleading media headlines from yesterday.
And, Bush is not the only one silent on these atrocities. The human rights groups that like to raise a stink about women's underwear on heads are strangely silent today. But, the ACLU did put out a statement yesterday against the Bush Administration.
Update: Michelle Malkin has much more on this noticeable silence today.

How does Bush's not saying anything become the story here? Instead of condemning the terrorists, you are condemning the guy who is fighting them. There have been many horrific terrorist attacks. Why should it be a shocker if the president does not comment on this particular one?
President Bush should definitely say something to rally the nation. Instead, he is wasting time with the mostly worthless Europeans. Sigh, if only I was eighteen again so I could sign up and go fight those wretches.
Firstly, Bush is not lifting a finger to fight anything. He's enjoying being a lame duck.
Secondly, he SHOULD say something because IT's HIS JOB.
Thirdly, this is not a WAR. A war has a declaration of war to announce a country's intent. Vietnam was not a war, but men died.
Fourthly, we are also engaged in Afghanistan and now Bush is eyeing an engagement in Iran.
When will the American People stand up, even march in the streets like the aliens did, and say "Enough!!"?
I'll tell you when. When there's no more beer in the fridge. When they can't afford gas for their truck or H2. When they can't afford a roof over their head any longer. And when they lose their son or daughter to this unwanted engagement, thanks to this President.
Vietnam was not a war? What are you smoking? The reason people are not protesting in the streets is because we are not a nation of QUITTERS! You sound like one though. I would write some more, but I have to get in my truck and go buy some more beer.
Jerry Martin,
I agree with you. Bill Clinton would have rushed to a microphone with hasty and quite empty words and done little else about capturing or killing the people responsible. President Bush has already spoken to the families and will probably speak publicly about this when we have the guys who did this either dead or alive.
What I find interesting, but not surprising, is the deafening silence from all these "human rights groups". Their silence on this speaks volumes. Even more, I find some of the commentary coming out of the Democrats and their buddies at places like Kos, DU, Bartcop etc. to be downright disgusting. I do not "question their patriotism", I never have. They are allies of the enemy and what little pretension they had to be otherwise is rapidly fading.
Their day of reckoning is coming.
Peter Lewis,
You are a poster child for the old adage "It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool then to open it and remove all doubt.".
Run along back to Kos little boy before I have to bust out the Clue Bat(TM) and club you like a baby seal. You will not enjoy it, I assure you.
Nahanni,
Where can I buy a "Clue Bat(TM)"
I know a few people that need "working over"
MidwestEngr,
You can use anything as an effective clue bat. The choices are endless!
Some prefer the good ol' Louisville Slugger. SOme modify it with spikes and nails. I prefer a working replica of a River Thames mace.
borderman, you're another brainwashed idiot. What'd you do, sleep in history class? Or were you drinking beer during high school? The last "declared" war was WWII. Prove me wrong. I served my time during Vietnam because I love this country. I lost 10 friends during that time and never heard a peep about them in any paper. I've earned my right to an opinion. Have you?
nahanni, you seem to forget that Teddy Roosevelt said it's our duty as citizens to respect the office of the presidency, but also to let our voices be heard if we disagree with what the president is doing.
Bring on your bat, but you'd better bring a lunch, too. Talk is cheap.
