Riot police are reported to have fired tear gas at demonstrators protesting in central Paris at Mr Sarkozy's victory.Pajamas Media has the latest.
According to the French news agency AFP, a few hundred stone-throwing rioters charged the police in the Place de la Bastille, where 5,000 supporters of Segolene Royal had earlier gathered to hear the results.

I guess it was a bit much to expect that Royal's whining libtards to see the upsides of a Sarkozy win...
The leftardos do their street theater bad acting just for the fun of it.
The Guardian laughably describes Royal as "moderate-centrist" and Sarkozy "right wing." From their infra-red [euro-style political color spectrum]perspective, that is probably what they perceive---but the sane part [non-Guardian/Independent] part of the highbrow Brit press sees Sarkozy as more of a Thatcher than Royal would have been perceived as a Blair.
Sarkozy has a mandate, after 86% of the French electorate has spoken.
Michael van der Galien of the Moderate Voice comments: "They are all to blame, as is their socialist ideology. Socialism has had its day; socialism has brought moral decline, high unemployment rates, weak, unstable economies, huge governments, regulation in just about every area of one’s life; it has caused something called personal responsibility to disappear; it has brought moral relativism; it has learned us that we cannot be proud of our respective country; it has made large groups of people unnecessarily dependent on the government; it has forced us to accept the failed concept of multiculturalism; it has taught us (I mean Europeans in general with that) that whatever you do, you have to be politically correct; it has created an environment in which one is not allowed to name problems, let alone deal with them; it has taught us that criminals are not to blame for their crimes, society as a whole is and that they, therefore, should be coddled instead of punished… oef, the list goes on and on."
