MNF-Iraq Releases Statement on TNR's Soldier Stories
TNR's bogus attacks on the military are starting to make headlines!...
The Weekly Standard Blog has been leading the charge to find the truth behind the disgusting anti-military hit pieces that The New Republic says are coming from a "group of active duty soldiers in Iraq."

The New York Times is even reporting on The New Republic soldier scandal today.
According to the Times, the TNR staff are still investigating the incredulous claims by anonymous reporter, "Scott Thomas":
Franklin Foer, the editor of The New Republic, will not reveal the author’s identity but says the magazine is investigating the accuracy of his articles. In the late 1990s, under different editors, the magazine fired an associate editor, Stephen Glass, for fabrications. We all look forward to that report, Mr. Foer!
“Now that these questions have been raised, we’ve launched an inquiry. We’re putting the full resources of the magazine to look into the story,” Mr. Foer said. “It’s taking me a little bit longer than I wish it did. The author, not to mention some of the participants in the anecdotes he described, are active duty soldiers and they’re on 20-hour active combat missions sometimes, and it’s very difficult for me to get them all on the phone to ask them the questions that I’d like to ask.”
I just received another response from a spokesman with the Multi-National Force Iraq this morning. This is what they have to say about the appalling allegations by mystery soldier "Scott Thomas":
"We are aware of what was written under a pseudonym. Its writer is unknown asThis follows a similar response by MNF-I yesterday to the allegations.
are his motives. We hold soldiers to the highest standards and the
allegations made are completely inconsistent with those expectations. In the absence of any credible information or independent corroboration, we presently have no reason to believe it."

Also, please note...
The Weekly Standard Blog posted this yesterday on the anti-military tall tales by The New Republic:
I can tell you unequivocally: there was NO mass grave discovered in this area of operations in conjunction with the building of a coalition outpost anytime in the past 12 months. None. Zero. Zip.TNR must be working their own 20-hour mission trying to figure out how they come out of this one unscathed.
If the story *is* true, then "Scott" and whomever else is purporting to back up his assertions should come forward, identify themselves and submit their report through official channels. We are not in the business of suppressing his right to free speech...on the contrary- he's free to submit whatever he wants, so long as it doesn't put others at risk for operational security (OPSEC). Of course- by putting his name on such outlandish claims, he then has to account for what is clearly a series of false statements.
Good luck.
The New Republic needs to apologize!

MNF-Iraq Responds to The New Republic's "Scott Thomas" Tales

Let’s assume that “Scott Thomas’s” stories are true. Let’s assume that the US is in a war in Iraq with an enemy (or enemies) that is (are) skilled in using the media to advance its(their) causes. Let’s assume from past experience (say Abu Ghraib or flushing korans down the toilet - whether true or false), we know that negative publicity for our troops (not Bush’s but our troops), whether true or false will be used by our enemies to incite more violence against our troops and likely result in more of our troops being killed or injured.
What is New Republic’s / Foer’s options when it gets Scott Thomas’s stories?
It seems to me New Republic / Foer has several choices.
New Republic / Foer can bury the story or save it for publication after we are done with the war with Islamic jihadists or at least the Iraq phase.
New Republic / Foer can take the story to the military authorities / Congress, etc. and ask that the stories be investigated and any wrongdoers punished accordingly. For the conspiracy theorists out there, New Republic / Foer can threaten that if a proper investigation is not undertaken, New Republic / Foer will publish the stories.
However, neither of those actions will sell New Republic’s / Foer’s magazine nor will they help turn the American public against the war, but they will almost certainly save lives of American soldiers.
New Republic / Foer can run the stories hoping to sell a few more magazines and help turn American public against the war even though our troops will pay for it with their blood.
New Republic / Foer chose to run the stories hoping to sell a few more magazines and help turn American public against the war even though our troops will pay for it with their blood.
One could conclude that New Republic / Foer places more importance on making money for the New Republic magazine and /or they want to they help turn the American public against the war, more that they care about saving the lives of American soldiers.
It is ironic that Foer claims “Conservative bloggers make a bit of a living denying any bad news that emanates from Iraq” when it appears that he makes “a bit of a living” present any bad news that emanates from Iraq, be it true of false.
Well the New Republic has long been the propaganda rag for the liberal/socialist/leftists...
Liberals have to lie since the facts rarely support their viewpoint...

great post dcm..
bottom line imho..
the surge is working.. the Iraqis siding with US & the Iraqi Gov in an about face against AQ / terrorism, along with the surge, is threatening to the Dems plans of "snatching victory from the jaws of defeat" ala their Vietnam II agenda..
"we the people" are waking up.. the Dems are getting more & more desperate.. hence, they have to come up with some distorted crap to smear our troops with in order to top Kerry's "baby killers" mantra..
God Bless Soldiers everywhere for putting THEIR
lives on the line to protect us ALL from terrorism!
