Sderot is located in the South District of Israel just one kilometer outside of Gaza (Hamastan). Since the beginning of the al-Aqsa Intifada in October 2000, the city has been frequently attacked by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants using homemade rockets known as "Qassam rockets". Hundreds of Qassam rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip at Sderot since Israel's disengagement from Gaza in September 2005.
Sderot holds several of the Gaza exports.
The city of Sderot collects the Qassams fired on the city and stores the shredded metal in a rack out back of the police station.

After our group left the Gaza region on Wednesday three Qassams were fired from Hamastan injuring two Israelis in Sderot.
The Jerusalem Post reported:
Two people were lightly wounded on Friday morning when a Kassam rocket fired from northern Gaza landed in the heart of Sderot.Hat Tip Fern O.
The rocket also caused damage to several houses and cars. The two casualties were evacuated to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.
Another rocket hit an open area in the western Negev town. No one was wounded and no damage was reported.
A third rocket landed in a western Negev kibbutz, damaging a cowshed. No one was wounded.
Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for firing the Kassams.
Meanwhile, Sderot Mayor Eli Moyal estimated that renovation work for the rocket-hit town's bomb shelters would be completed by next month.
The project, which has cost an estimated NIS 6 million, was funded by the private International Fellowship of Christians and Jews trust, Israel Radio reported.

ReplyDeleteIt is abundantly clear, and has been from the beginning, that the so-called "palestinians" hate not only Israel, but the USA and indeed all civilized nations. It is also clear that they are not interested in a state and their only objective, as they themselves state, is to destroy Israel.
Their sole industry is terror, which is also their only export. It is also their hobby when not at "work."
So, why does America champion the "cause" of these demons at the expense of itself and it's ally, Israel? Because America is in the grip of a base people who have the oil we need.
We have plenty of reserves of coal and oil at home, and the capacity to build huge solar power arrays in the SouthWest, yet we don't. As a result, we have to coerce our only ally in the region to capitualate to the terrorists who are our mutual enemy at the risk of Itsrael's demise, G-D forbid!
Make no mistake. This will be America's undoing if we continue on that suicidal course.
We do NOT have to be dependent on Arab oil, but no one in congress has the guts or imagination to pursue alternatives to Arab extortion.
This has already hurt us badly, and will even become worse as long as we persist in the folly of demanding "self determination" for the most malicious people on the planet. "Self determination" is the LAST thing either they or any of us need, and certainly something they do NOT deserve.
