This sounds like a Massachusetts Senator’s trip to Cambodia, his secret cap, and invented description of his fellows.
For more, see here and here and keep laughing at the clown editor of TNR at Memeorandum.
UPDATE:
To the point
Geoff at Junkyard Blog:
So all of Beauchamp’s moral decay occurred before he ever saw combat. Before he entered the theater. Before the grind and inhumanity of war had its way with his tender soul.
This story was not about a cynical, war-weary soldier losing sight of humanity - it was about a newbie who had just finished training and was on his way to his first duty station. His behavior wasn’t a result of the hardships of the combat environment - it was a result of his being an innate asshole. A huge, insensitive, loutish asshole.
TNR sure knows how to pick ‘em.

UPDATE II:
More bogus Beauchamp.
Bruce Kesler
Did you even read Beauchamp's essay.
ReplyDeleteObviously not.
Thus, you are only making yourself look like a complete fool.
Whether the skull was found in a child's cemetary or a mass grave or Saddam's is entirely irrelevant to the essay. Beauchamp speculated why the bones were there, but it was obvious from his writing that he didn't know for sure. So what? The point was not where the bones originated from. The point was that a fellow soldier took a piece of the skull and put it in his helmet.
You really look like fools. You don't know when to just admit you were wrong about this matter and stop. Your original charges were 1) that the soldier was fake and 2) that the incidents could not have possibly occurred, as soldiers would never act like that.
Now you're basically saying "Ok, Beauchamp insulted a soldier, but he did so in Kuwait not Iraq" and "Ok, a soldier had a child's skull in his helmet, but the skull was from a child's cemetary and not from a mass grave".
In other words - you lost this argument. Just. Stop.
exactly gateway.
ReplyDeletei first made the kerry-beauchamp comparison on 7/27.

welcome back!
downtown lad: you're NUTS!
ReplyDeleteif a reporter had reported a traffic accident as accurately as beauchamp did his "exploits" he'd be FIRED.
and rightly so!
and what about those GLOCK casings/bullets?
another FABRICATION.
beauchamp is a LIAR and embellisher and ALL of his lies and embellishments denigrated the US military.
COINCIDENCE?
no way.
not one embellishment made him or his buddies seem more heroic; just sicker.
and his whole freakin point was to show how war dehumanizes people.
but his sociopathic abuse of the injured woman was BEFORE HE WENT TO WAR.
wake up.
kerry lied about cambodia.
beauchamp lied about KUWAT and iraq.
he joined the army and went to iraq for the sole exclusive purpose of enhancing his ANTI-WAR creds. according to HIM!
this proves how despicable he is.
a lying leftwing anti-American sc*mb*g.

downtownlad managed to get not one single thing right. That's an accomplishment in and of itself. Give him a hand, folks!
ReplyDeleteIf Beauchamp had written a story about witnessing 9/11, when those planes flew into the Sears Tower, geniuses like downtownlad would be barking at his critics to quit picking nits. Silly goose.
Isn't it wonderful that each day another parents basement dwelling LLL loser from the "reality-based community" shows up here for clue batting practice?
ReplyDelete"A forensic anthropologist confirmed to us that it is possible for tufts of hair to be attached to a long-buried fragment of a human skull"
ReplyDeleteTufts of hair, yes, but "rotting flesh"!
"The private wore the skull for the rest of the day and night. He observed that he was grateful his hair had just been cut--since it would make it easier to pick out the pieces of rotting flesh that were digging into his head."
"A forensic anthropologist confirmed to us that it is possible for tufts of hair to be attached to a long-buried fragment of a human skull"
ReplyDeleteTufts of hair, yes, but "rotting flesh"?! Please!

Funny...I Google TNR and get "Trap, Neuter, Release"
ReplyDeleteI think, upon release, we now know where they congregate. TNR
So apparently Beauchamp's claims have ALL now been refuted as a result of a weeklong investigation conducted by his unit.
ReplyDeleteThere's a linky on Michelle Malkin's website (and probably others by now).
So downtownlad, I guess it's you who look the fool. Even if it was just the refutation of the scarred woman, that it took place in Kuwait before he was even deployed, it places a TREMENDOUS doubt about Scott's credibility. His comments about 'his own cruelty', in light of it taking place in Kuwait, show he was a repulsive person before he even 'got in the shit'. . .which is terribly relevant since the whole premise of the article was the effect of the war on the mental states of the soldiers. It casts every other claim he made in doubt, and since no other claim he has made was positively corroborated (TNR claims they corroborated them, but they also originally claimed the scarred woman piece was corroborated. . .and they conveniently leave out how they fired a staffer who revealed that Scott is engaged to another staffer at TNR).
I'll stop rambling, and just put it simply. This whole episode is just so incredibly shady I cannot place one iota of belief in anything in that TNR article. No one capable of critical thought should.
you guys have got it nailed, Beauchamp is a liar. no one in Iraq would act as he has described. btw, we've won the war, osama is in jail and bush is the greatest president in history
