Pennsylvania 9-11 Memorial Still Honors Hijackers

With last week’s final approval for the crescent design, the hijacker still has control of the cockpit.

Left image: a traditional Islamic sundial. The shadow is just reaching the outer curved vertical, indicating time for Islamic afternoon prayers. Right image, the Tower of Voices from the planned Flight 93 Memorial. Shadow calculations confirm that, on any day of the year, when the shadow of the crescent shaped tower reaches the inner arc of trees, it will be time for Islamic afternoon prayers.

Alec Rawls writes:

I was at the Memorial Project’s July 28th meeting in Somerset PA when final approval was announced to start building what was originally called the Crescent of Embrace design. At the meeting, I learned from an Advisory Commission member named Tim Baird that every one of the Commission and Task Force members who approved the crescent design knows about the factual accuracy of my claim that a person facing into the giant central crescent will be facing almost exactly at Mecca.

This claim is trivially easy to verify, as the Johnstown Tribune Democrat reported last week. I gave reporter Kirk Swauger the address of a Muslim website, Islam.com, that has a Mecca-direction calculator. He plugged in PA, Somerset, and the calculator gave him a graphic of the direction to Mecca from Somerset. All he had to do was place it over the official design PDFs for the Crescent of Embrace to see that the Mecca direction line (the “qibla” line) bisects the giant crescent:

Green circle showing qibla line for Somerset is from Islam.com. A person standing at the midpoint between the crescent tips and facing into the center of the crescent (red arrow) will be facing almost exactly at Mecca.

A crescent that Muslims face into to face Mecca is called a “mihrab,” and is the central feature around which every mosque is built. There are a dozen typical mosque features. Every one is realized in the crescent design, all on the same epic scale as the giant mihrab. (Is a 93 foot tall minaret/prayer-time-sundial epic enough for you?) These mosque features account for every particle of the design. The planned memorial is 100% pure mosque.

All the redesign did was add a few trees behind and to the left of a person facing into the giant crescent. All of the structure that you see in the above graphic remains completely intact. The upper crescent tip is still the end of the giant, thousand foot long, fifty foot tall, Entry Portal wall. The lower crescent tip is still the last set of red maple trees at the bottom. Both are placed exactly as in the original. Once one understands that the giant mihrab is a self-contained religious construct, equivalent to a giant Muslim prayer rug, one understands that placing a few trees behind it does nothing to affect its presence of integrity.

I am outraged. How can the planning committee not see this? Are they muslims? This is just too much. It's a slap in the face to everyone who has suffered by the hands of Islamic terrorists.

To add insult to injury take a look at this cartoon today in the Washington Post.

  3. Hmmm, considering that this is the state that sends swine like Murtha and Spector to the House and Senate, is anyone really suprised?

that reminded me of the following..

YouTube had a great video of it when Clinton was a guest on The Daily Show.. that video has disappeared along with many others for "some unknown reason".. and albeit not a great example (ie: looks slightly different from different angle's), take a good look at the Clinton Global Initiative SYMBOL.. and while it may or may not be my imagination.. the minute i first saw it on the DS show, HAMMER & CYCLE came to mind.. same goes for the PA "memorial".. *sigh*

ps: also reminded me of these little known facts outside of blogoshpere circles.. Hitler, The Mufti Of Jerusalem And Modern Islamo Nazism.. lots more here..

Two things that strike this observer:

    1. An arc -- a portion of a circle -- is not a crescent.

    2. If, as Alec Rawls asserts, "a person facing into the giant central crescent will be facing almost exactly at Mecca," doesn't that mean that the person will in fact be facing not exactly at Mecca?

Where some see crescents, others see apple pie

and where some may see an arc, apple pie, or little green martians .. others see a memorial titled:

    "Crescent of Embrace", go fig..

  8. Sissy if you'd been following the proposition from the beginning you would still see the crescent that they started with. The design was changed slightly due to public outcry and the architect got stiff backed because of it.

-After all who the hell are we to want a memorial that states how we feel about the thing being memorialized? We should accept the memorial the way it's presented and STFU.-

But I don't see it that way and the architect and I will be at loggerheads until he is relieved. I would have a tendency to remember the hue and cry from the whole affair.

If some civic-minded locals would put up artfully done billboards on all the highways leading to this memorial explaining the symbolism that is so boldly shoved in our faces, the memorial can serve double duty- to those who died, as well as to the minset that even to this day does not understand the war they died fighting.

As an architect, let me tell you that the sundial is probably the strongest proof. There is a long history of using sun angles/shadows in monumental architecture. My professional eye says that none of the specifics in this design are accidental- they are quite deliberate. It's what architects do- refine a design down to the most minute detail so that the design philosophy is carried down to the last detail. You should be able to read the intent of the design from as far away as an airplane to as near as a foot. This design is evil genius, really.

If you don't believe me, just google 'sundial' and 'architecture'.

Lord forgive us, and have mercy on us. What's the use of a memorial when those who caused the attack in the name of Allah are being memorialized among those who were victimized. The planning committee need to read the Qu'ran and know how much these people hate us and are willing to die for their belief. I'm not referring to people who profess to be muslims but are not trully reading and following the Qu'ran (1/4 talks about peace, 3/4 talks about jihad), but those who actually read the Qu'ran and follow it. Crescent of Embrace indeed! When are Amerians going to wake up! No matter how much embracing you're going to do, these terrorist will never embrace us...that's reality!

PERHAPS THE CRESENT ISN'T HONOURING THE THE HIJACKERS, BUT RATHER, IT'S HONOURING MUSLIM VICTIMS.

    THINK POSITIVE, PEOPLE!
