Strange... Iran's New Jet Is Iran's Old Jet

Today- Iran announced that it had successfully test flown its second home-made jet fighter called 'Azarakhsh' (lightning).
Here is a photo of the "new" Azarakhsh jet, via Bazteb News:

Last September- Iran announced it had developed a new warplane named "Thunder," which it described as similar to the American F-18 fighter jet.

Hmm... This is odd.

If you take the Iranian Thunder photo and flip it and line it up with today's Azarakhsh photo, you have the same jet photo:

It looks like the Azarakhsh may have lost its Thunder.

UPDATE: HolyCoast has more questions for the Iranian air force.

  1. That's not surprising. The other day the Iranian News Agency (IRNA) posted a story about their glorious air force and included a photo of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. More here: http://holycoast.blogspot.com/2007/08/have-thunderbirds-defected.html

    Similar to F-18... lol.

Geez it's bloody Northrop F-5, a very simple, barely supersonic, fighter designed specifically for export to second tier airforces and 3rd world countries way back in the late 60s early 70s. It was not considered capable of taking on anything substantial way back then and would be slaughtered today.

  3. the story was about a jet so they posted a file photo of picture of a jet as a visual aid, they've posted pictures of f-15s in some of their other stories it's not meant to be taken as a picture of that particular model

It is definitely a new model. Look at the picture - this one can fly in the opposite direction!

  5. I watched Iran's Supreme Leader address Iranian Air Force Officers on C-SPAN. Here's the link to the C-SPAN video:

Turns out this is from February 14, 2005. I just remember looking at those Air Force officers. They could use some time in the gym, if they're not too old. Iran is promoting propaganda to it's own people. I hope their Air Force isn't too dumb to believe it.

Well, Saddam's Air Force flew to Iran to find safety. Where is Iran's Air Force going to fly to? Come to think of it, Russia probably.
