Pelosi Snubs Pro-US Uribe- Makes Plans to Visit Hugo Chavez!!!

I smell sulfur!

This is just unbelievable!
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refuses to meet with the Pro-American capitalist President of Colombia this week - even when he said he would go out of his way to come to her office - but is making plans to visit the Marxist dictator Hugo Chavez in the fall!

It's not just Bashir Assad that she will meet with.
It's not just General Petraeus that she will not meet with.

The American Spectator has the latest shocking news on Speaker of the House Pelosi:

According to sources within the House Democratic leadership, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has denied the request for a meeting with Uribe when he comes to Washington next week. Uribe's staff has attempted to set up a meeting with Pelosi, offering to come to her offices with Uribe if necessary. Pelosi has refused the meeting.

"She has third parties who have encouraged her not to take the meeting," says a leadership aide, who said a coalition of labor organizations and MoveOn.org had been pressuring her to not meet with Uribe. "We've never seen anything like it. It's not like we're talking about some family from San Francisco who stopped by her office unannounced. This is the president of a country."

In Colombia, Uribe has been struggling against communist terrorist groups financed by Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, as well as leftist political pressure internally. All while attempting to work with the U.S. against narco-trafficking. "He's a friend and an ally," says a State Department source, who was unaware of Pelosi's snub. "I'd be surprised that one of our national leaders would not meet with a strategic partner of the United States of America."

Earlier this week Pelosi declined to meet with the man overseeing U.S. military forces in Iraq, Gen. David Petreaus.

Pelosi, though, is willing to meet with America's enemies. Against the advice of the State Department, Pelosi pressed for and did meet with the dictator of Syria earlier this month.

According to leadership staff, she has members of her personal staff working on initial plans for a trip to Venezuela, perhaps in the fall, to meet with Chavez.
So, the Capitalist Savior of Colombia is not cool to deal with...
But, the Marxist pig next door is... This is frightening!

Update: Speaker Pelosi is withholding American aid from the Colombian Government based on RUMORS of government ties to paramilitary death squads.
The Colombian government is one of the staunchest US allies in the region.

Oops... Joe Biden Kicks Mud on Durbin's Mad Bush Conspiracy!

"This was not some, some Cheney, you know, pipe dream."

Senator Joe Biden
On Saddam's WMD
Meet the Press
April 29, 2007
Just when democrats were getting their conspiracy on...
In comes Big Joe Biden to kick mud on the latest democratic conspiracy push.

Crooks'n Liars has the video of Sen. Dick Durbin preaching on the Senate floor last Wednesday. "Pol Pot" Durbin claimed that the Senate Intelligence Committee was given different information than what was given to the American people. Durbin said Intelligence Committee Members were aware that the Iraq Intelligence didn’t support the case for war.

However... It was soon discovered that the other democratic committee members had different thoughts at the time.

Sadly, Senator Joe Biden Sunday on Meet the Press dispelled any rumors that Bush lied about Saddam's weapons of mass destruction:

Just in case you missed it- Here is the transcript...
Joe Biden on Meet the Press on Sunday April 29, 2007:

MR. RUSSERT: I want to go back to 2002, because it’s important as to what people were saying then and what the American people were hearing. Here’s Joe Biden about Saddam Hussein: “He’s a long term threat and a short term threat to our national security.”

“We have no choice but to eliminate the threat. This is a guy who is an extreme danger to the world.”

“He must be dislodged from his weapons or dislodged from power.” You were emphatic about that.

SEN. BIDEN: That’s right, and I was correct about that. He must be, in fact—and remember the weapons we were talking about. I also said on your show, that’s part of what I said, but not all of what I meant. What I also said on your show at the time was that I did not think he had weaponized his material, but he did have. When, when the inspectors left after Saddam kicked them out, there was a cataloguing at the United Nations saying he had X tons of, X amount of, and they listed the various materials he had. The big issue, remember, on this show we talked about, was whether he had weaponized them. Remember you asked me about those flights that were taking place in southern Iraq, where—were they spraying anthrax? And, you know, what would happen? And, you know, so on and so forth. And I pointed out to you that they had not developed that capacity at all. But he did have these stockpiles everywhere.

MR. RUSSERT: Where are they?

SEN. BIDEN: Well, the point is, it turned out they didn’t, but everyone in the world thought he had them.

The weapons inspectors said he had them. He catalogued—they catalogued them. This was not some, some Cheney, you know, pipe dream. This was, in fact, catalogued. They looked at them and catalogued. What he did with them, who knows? The real mystery is, if he, if he didn’t have any of them left, why didn’t he say so? Well, a lot of people say if he had said that, he would’ve, you know, emboldened Iran and so on and so forth.
That one line is worth repeating again...
Biden said:
"This was not some, some Cheney, you know, pipe dream."
Goodness!... Don't let the nutroots hear that!

Update: Bryan at HotAir has more on the 'Cheney pipe dream' and Smokin'Joe Biden getting nasty.

Pro-Ahmadinejad Thugs Stab & Beat Student Protesters!

Iranian students were stabbed and beaten with chains today while peacefully protesting for the release of Babak Zamanian, a student leader who was arrested last week by the regime!

Babak Zamanian, a student at Amir Kabir, in Tehran, is on crutches in this earlier photo (New York Times) because of a beating by supporters of President Ahmadinejad. Last week he was arrested by the regime.

Ahmadinejad suporters rolled into Amir Kabir Polytechnic University today and stabbed several of the peaceful student protesters!
They also whipped the students with chains!
ADN Kronos reported:

Tehran, 30 April (AKI) - A group of supporters of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday forced their way into the campus of top Tehran university Amir Kabir Polytechnic and assaulted a group of student activists who were staging a peaceful rally against the detention of their spokesman Babak Zamanian, who was arrested last week. About a dozen students who were stabbed and attacked with chains were transferred to hospital. A similar attack by Ahmadinejad supporters was carried out Monday against activists at the university of Lorestan, in western Iran.

About a dozen government supporters wounded with knives students who were staging a demonstration on campus. One of the protesters, Siamak Nadali is in hospital in a critical condition.

Students at the university of Lorestan were carrying out an all-out protest, following the example of their peers in the capital Tehran, in Babol near the Caspian sea, and Shiraz in the west, who are rallying against new government measures imposing strict new dress codes and opening hours on campus as well as restrictions on political activity.

Last December, dozens of protesters burned pictures of Ahmadinejad crying 'dictator go away', 'death to dictatorship' and threw firecrackers when Ahmadinejad was visiting Amir Kabir university in Tehran. The rally forced him to interrupt several times a speech he was giving and leave before scheduled.
On Wednesday April 25, the leader of the Muslim Students Association at a Tehran polytechnic was arrested. Babak Zamanian was reportedly arrested because of interviews he gave to Farsi language radio stations that broadcast outside Iran.

The students of the Amir Kabir Polytechnic made front page news around the world last December when they managed to prevent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on a visit to their campus, from making his speech. It was the first time since his landslide victory in June 2005 that Ahmadinejad had been challenged in public.

Kamangir has links to Farsi websites reporting on this brutal crackdown.

Update: Also today there are reports that protesting workers were beat up in front of Ahmadinejad's office.

Hamas Leader Threatens More Israeli Soldier Kidnappings

Maan News reported that the leader of Hamas Khalid Mash'el threatened today to kidnap more Israeli soldiers:

Bethlehem - Ma'an – Hamas politburo chief, Khalid Mash'al, has stated that his movement is doing its best to release all Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails, and has allegedly claimed that Hamas "will capture other Israeli soldiers". Israeli media sources stated that Mash'al said this in a festival outside Damascus, arranged in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners.

The sources stated that Mash'al had revealed that "[Corporal Gil'ad] Shalit will not be released, until Israel agrees to all [Hamas'] terms and conditions."

He stated that "Hamas will do its best to release all prisoners from Israeli jails," adding, "if the enemy insists on stubbornness over the issue of Shalit, I declare before you that we have the ability and the will to repeat the scenario of Shalit's capture."

Egyptian Dailies Report On Departure of Sandmonkey Blog

ADN Kronos paid a special tribute to blogger Egyptian Sandmonkey today and reported that the Arab-language dailies are carrying the story on the silencing of the Sandmonkey:

Cairo, 30 April (AKI) - The Egyptian Sand Monkey - one of the country's most popular and straight talking blogs - has closed down his site. In a farewell message, the blogger explained "that there has been too much heat around me lately," adding he feared for his anonymity with "State Security agents lurking around my street and asking questions about me." He went on to say that his bowing out was also due to changes in the Egyptian blogosphere, "too much media attention, too much hype," and the need for a period of reflection.

The news of the farewell to the web of the "sand monkey" because of alleged repression by the Egyptian regime, has captured the interest of the local media and on Monday the story was carried by most of the main Arab-language dailies.

One of the most vibrant voices in the political and social debate of the country Sand Monkey has over the past two years consistently reported on the violence and brutality used against political activists during protests agianst the rule of president Hosni Mubarak.

Egyptian bloggers came to the attention of the mainstream media two years ago and have since become an important pillar of information in a country where the media is largely state controlled.

In recent months the blogosphere has been in the sights of the Egyptian authorities who fear the spread via the Internet of information that is not controlled or at least filtered by central power. In one particular case cellphone images of an Egyptian citizen, who had been tortured in a police station, appeared on Egyptian blogs and were quickly picked up by other sites around the globe.
In related news... The Egyptian Daily Star reported that there were several rallies this weekend held in support of Egyptian blogger Karim Suleiman who was imprisoned last year for his blogging against the regime.

A "Free Kareem" protest was held in Washington DC on Saturday, April 28, 2007. Egyptian blogger Kareem Suleiman was sentenced to four years in jail for insulting the Mubarak regime.

Last February, a court in Alexandria sentenced blogger Karim Suleiman, 22, to four years jail for having insulted the president and Islam, the state religion. The sentence was widely condemened by human rights and press freedom campaigners. (ADNK)

Iran Takes Credit For America's Defeat and Withdrawal

Well, they do owe it to themselves!

And... They can't let Al Qaeda take all the glory for the democrat's surrender bill.

The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Republic army Major General Ataollah Salehi said that it is only through the vigilance of the Iranian forces that America is escaping the region under the democratic surrender plan.
Fars News reported:

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Owing to the vigilance of Iran's armed forces, enemy is seeking to escape from the region, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Republic army said on Monday.

"We are monitoring and controlling all enemy moves in the region and the enemy is well informed of this, and due to the same reason it is seeking an opportunity to escape from the region," Major General Ataollah Salehi said.

He also reminded that his country is monitoring all moves in the region due to the threats posed by the regional and trans-regional forces.

"Today threats in the regional countries have grown arrogant and we have been able to act as an element of deterrence in the region due to the preparedness and precise performance of our forces," the General continued.

He said Iran is not worried about enemy moves as it is well informed of the enemies' weak points, reminding that the country's enemies have weaknesses which have been hidden under their propaganda.
It is not clear if this is an admission of Iranian interference in Iraq, or not.

Sandmonkey Rants on the Death of the Democracy Movement

Atlas has a powerful interview with Egyptian Sandmonkey on how democrats are sucking the life out of the freedom movement in the Middle East:

Atlas: Where you shocked when Hoyer met with the Muslim Brotherhood?

SANDMONKEY: Let me tell you something. I was in Turkey a couple of weeks ago and I met a couple of Syrian activists. They one thing they told me that was really funny about the Pelosi visit. After Pelosi came to Syria two things happened. People on Syrian TV were saying, "We forced the Americans to knock on the Damascus gate!" Sort of like an admission that we messed things up in Iraq so much that America had to come and beg for their help.

But the day after Pelosi's visits there were immediate arrests of Syrian activists. That was the fruit she yielded. "Oh the Americans came over and they said they have a different foreign policy and they're more interested in placating Bashar's ego." And he went out and got [arrested] everyone he wanted because he knew he had an ally in Washington that wouldn't pressure him as much.

...ATLAS: As an Egyptian who understands democracy, life, liberty the pursuit of happiness....and who admires America. Looking at America, I want to know what you see.

SANDMONKEY: I'm seeing a country in great danger. Simply speaking, I don't think the people get what's at stake anymore. I don't think they see where they are heading.
Sick! This is a very powerful interview at Atlas Shrugs.

Iraqis Protest Against Honor Killings & Stonings

On Sunday in Erbil, Northern Iraq, Kurdish men and women came together to protest against honor killings after the brutal murder of a young woman earlier in the month.

On or around April 7, 2007... Du'a Khalil Aswad, a 17 year old Kurdish girl was murdered by public stoning after running away from home for a so-called honour crime. Du'a was a member of Iraq’s Yezidi religious minority from the village of Bahzan in northern Iraq. She was killed by a group of men and in the presence of a large noisy crowd in the town of Bashika, near the city of Mosul. Some of her relatives may have participated in her stoning.

Amnesty International reported that Du’a Khalil Aswad’s murder is said to have been committed by relatives and other Yezidi men because she had engaged in a relationship with a Sunni Muslim boy and had been absent from her home for one night. Some reports suggested that she had converted to Islam, but others deny this. Initially, she was reportedly given shelter in the house of a Yezidi tribal leader in Bashika, but her killers stormed the house, took her outside and stoned her to death. Her death by stoning, lasted for some 30 minutes.

Today in Erbil... Capital of the Kurdish region of Iraq, women and men came together to protest the murder of Du'a Khalil Aswad. The demonstration was organised by 90 NGOs and attracted protestors from across the whole Kurdish region.

The video of the horrible stoning death of this young Kurdish woman was filmed and is posted on a Kurdish website.
It is absolutely barbaric!
(I will not link to the video. Publius did.)

Iranian Officials Claim Israel Is Not Able to Attack Iran

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said on Sunday that the "Zionist regime" does not have the capability to attack Iran.
IRNA reported:

Replying to the question about the claim of the Zionist regime's prime minister, Ehud Olmert, on the possibility of attacking Iran, he said that this has been denied by Israel.

Besides, he underlined that Israel is not capable of attacking Iran, adding that given the high defensive capabilities of Iranian forces, they will hardly let any party to take such a measure." Turning to Israel's failure in the 33-day war with Lebanon, which was launched by the Zionist regime, he said that such claims raised by the Zionist regime are aimed at the country's internal crisis.

One Million Protest Against Islamic Rule in Turkey!

Over one million secularists demonstrated in Istanbul today against the threat of Islamic rule.

Swiss Info reported on this massive protest against Islamic rule in Turkey:

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Up to a million people rallied in a sea of red Turkish flags on Sunday, accusing the government of planning an Islamist state and demanding it withdraw its presidential candidate.

But despite the Istanbul protests and a threat from the powerful army to intervene in the election, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, architect of Turkey's EU membership drive, said he would remain the ruling AK Party's candidate for head of state.

The protesters flooded the streets of Turkey's largest city, praising the army and denouncing Gul and Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, whose AK Party enjoys a huge parliamentary majority, as a threat to a secular order separating state and religion.

"Turkey is secular and will remain secular," they chanted.

"Turkey is under threat from the AK Party leadership... We will not be able to express our thoughts like this if they stay in power," said protester Cigdem Yilmaz, 22, a student.

Tens of thousands of secular Turks gathered in Istanbul, chanting slogans against the pro-Islamic government, which has faced severe criticism from the powerful military for allegedly tolerating the activities of radical Islamic circles. It was the second large demonstration against the government in just two weeks and shows a deepening division between secular and Islamist camps in Turkish society. Iranian author Ebrahim Hassan-Beigi released his latest novel “Muhammad (S)” on Saturday in Tehran, according to Mehr News.

His latest novel deals with the story of Muhammad. He says he was moved to write his latest religious novel because of the outrage he felt during the Muhammad cartoon riots.

He also says he knows what images of the Prophet Muhammad can do to young Westerners:

On the news of the publishing of the portrait of the Prophet Muhammad (S) in eleven countries’ school books, Hassan-Beigi noted, “Research shows that the portrait depicts a harsh and ugly character. This is quite regretful. I believe that it is this portrait (of Muhammad) which encourages foreign people to pick up a gun and shoot at Muslims”.
Not exactly... The truth is that depictions of the Prophet Muhammad left at least 139 people dead in Muslim protests, mainly in Nigeria, Libya, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Dictator's Daughter Cuts New Album

I hadn't followed the news from Uzbekistan much since the dictator Karimova sent in troops and slaughtered around 1,000 innocents holding a rally against the regime.

But, that was almost two years ago...
Today in Uzbekistan the dictator's daughter Gulnara Karimova is about to release her first album.
Here is a sampling of one of her cuts:
(3 minutes)

It looks like production costs were not an issue...
It helps when daddy is the dictator.

Here is more on Gulnara's CD release from Ferghana News:

Markaz TV (Center-TV) channel announced release of the first album by Gulnara Karimova, the daughter of the president of Uzbekistan also known as Googoosha. It includes the numbers Forget Me Not, Clouds, Spring, and others.

Gulnara is known in Uzbekistan and abroad as a political scientist and diplomat. She is the head of the Center of Political Studies (Tashkent), patron of the international Forum of Uzbek Culture and Arts, and advisor of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Russia.

There are the rumors in Tashkent that Gulnara will eventually succeed to her father the president or at least become the prime minister. Specialists say in the meantime that Gulnara's artistic aspirations, somewhat exceeding her talent, certainly interfere with politics.

Gulnara's album includes some of her poems as well. When interviewed in the past, the president's daughter denounced the plans to release albums. She claimed she was doing all of that (writing poems and singing) just because she felt like it. Gulnara's plans and opinions must have changed.

Durbin's Dishonesty Deconstructed

How sad... And, how dishonest!
Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) attacked the Bush Administration on the Senate floor Friday claiming:

"The information we had in the Intelligence Committee was not the same information being given to the American people. I couldn't believe it. I was angry about it. (But) frankly, I couldn't do much about it because, in the Intelligence Committee, we are sworn to secrecy. We can't walk outside the door and say the statement made yesterday by the White House is in direct contradiction to classified information that is being given to this Congress."
Sorry, Dick...
That line is still not true despite how many times the Left plays it.

Powerline has what the other members from that same committee were saying during the run-up to the Iraq War:

But here’s what Democratic Intelligence Committee members were saying about the intelligence they saw…

Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) September, 2002): “[Saddam] has ignored the mandates of the United Nations, is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them.”

Sen. John Rockefeller (D-WV), October, 2002: “There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons. And will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years.”

Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN), March, 2003: “Bill, I support the president's efforts to disarm Saddam Hussein. I think he was right on in his speech tonight. The lessons we learned following September 11 were that we can't wait to be attacked again, particularly when it involves weapons of mass destruction. So regrettably, Saddam has not done the right thing, which is to disarm, and we're left with no alternative but to take action.”

And Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid…

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), September, 2002: “Saddam Hussein, in effect, has thumbed his nose at the world community. And I think that the President's approaching this in the right fashion.”
Oh, and in case there are still any doubters...
Here's the video of what those same Intelligence Committee members were saying before the war:
(3 minutes 44 seconds)

Isn't it about time for another apology, Senator!

And, the Jewish groups are not the only ones blasting the Speaker for her dangerous moves...
The Washington Post came out with another unusual and blistering attack on the Speaker Friday:

No Results in Damascus
Having finished hosting U.S. politicians, Syria's dictator has returned to jailing dissidents and sponsoring terrorism.

THE CONGRESSIONAL leaders who visited Damascus this month to meet Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad gave a practical test to the oft-stated theory that "engaging" his regime is more likely to produce results than the Bush administration's policy of isolating it. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was particularly unstinting in her goodwill, declaring that she had come to see Mr. Assad "in friendship, hope, and determined that the road to Damascus is a road to peace." In a statement, her delegation reported that it had talked to Mr. Assad about stopping the flow of foreign terrorists to Iraq and about obtaining the release of kidnapped Israeli soldiers. It also said it had "conveyed our strong interest in the cases of [Syrian] democracy activists," such as imprisoned human rights lawyer Anwar al-Bunni.

Three weeks have passed, so it's fair to ask: Has there been any positive change in Syrian behavior -- any return gesture of goodwill, however slight?

Mr. al-Bunni might offer the best answer -- if he could. On Tuesday, one of Mr. Assad's judges sentenced him to five years in prison. His "crimes" were to speak out about the torture and persecution of regime opponents, to found the Syrian Human Rights Association and to sign the "Damascus Declaration," a pro-democracy manifesto.

...What of the other items on the U.S. congressional agenda? Well, there has been a major surge in suicide bombings in Baghdad and elsewhere in Iraq this month, in what U.S. commanders describe as an attempt by al-Qaeda to defeat the new security operation in the capital. According to U.S. and Iraqi officials, almost all suicide bombers in Iraq are foreigners, and some 80 percent of them pass through Syria. The border remains as porous as ever...

Moderate Muslim Group Holds Training Sessions in Middle East

In 1991 Zainab al Suwaij escaped Iraq after participating in the tragic rebellion against Ba'athist rule. Today she leads the American Islamic Congress and is building a coalition around the agenda of unequivocal denunciation of terrorism, extremism, and hate speech.

A letter from Zainab al Suwaij and the American Islamic Congress:

Dear Friend:

I write to you to update you on some of the exciting programs the American Islamic Congress has implemented in recent months.

I just returned from a month-long trip to the Middle East, where we conducted three training conferences for young reformers in:

Amman, Jordan, where we brought together 25 young leaders from eight countries for in-depth training in techniques of non-violent activism;

Karbala, Iraq, where despite constant danger we taught 27 young Iraqis how to promote non-violent methods of conflict resolution and national reconciliation;

Ifrane, Morocco , where we joined with the student Human Rights Club of Al-Akhawayn University to host 45 young Middle Eastern leaders from 12 countries to lay the foundations for a region-wide civil rights movement.

While I enjoyed my trip, my experiences reminded me of the challenges before us. The day I arrived in Morocco from Iraq, for example, multiple suicide bombings rocked the country. I was instructing young activists on implementing nonviolent reform at one moment, only to find myself comforting Moroccans devastated by the tragic actions of radical fundamentalists. The attacks (repeated the next day in Algiers and four days later in Casablanca) provided a stark example of the crises - and opportunities - that stand before us. Radicals seek to dominate the Muslim community. Basic human rights are denied by unelected rulers. And terrorists threaten the safety of all of us, regardless of our religious beliefs.

But we will not be silent in the face of these challenges.

Entering our sixth year, the American Islamic Congress has been at the forefront in advancing a platform of tolerance and understanding by creating grassroots networks for reform in the Muslim world and by promoting the moderate Muslim voice to the American public. We rely on the support of kind people of all backgrounds who are committed to promoting peace and progress - and to helping us move forward a positive agenda for the Muslim community. Here are a few ways you can help us:

Join Arab and Muslim Voices for Darfur: Sunday, April 29, is the Global Day for Darfur. AIC, along with organizations around the world, will be protesting the on-going genocide in Darfur. In the Middle East, members of our network will be holding vigils in six countries to protest the silence of Arab governments. Join in solidarity with these reformers by lighting a candle to demand action.
Call for the universal right to Freedom of Speech on Friday, April 27, by protesting the jailing of 22 year-old Egyptian blogger Abdel Kareem Soliman, recently sentenced to four years in jail for writing on his blog. Kareem attended one of our training workshops, and we ask you to join the Free Kareem campaign.
Support our growing movement of Muslim moderates trying to take back our faith from radical Islamists. Every gift helps protect freedom in the US and around the world.
We face an uphill struggle. But with your support, we will continue to make progress, one life at a time.

Ma'asalaama ("in peace"),

Zainab Al-Suwaij

Democrats Offered al-Qaeda Victory On a Silver Plate... For free

Iraqi Omar Fadhil from Iraq the Model talks on the Democratic Surrender Bill at Pajamas Media:

I am an Iraqi. To me the possible consequences of this vote are terrifying. Just as we began to see signs of progress in my country the Democrats come and say, ‘Well, it’s not worth it.Time to leave’.

To the Democrats my life and the lives of twenty-five other million Iraqis are evidently not worth trying for. They shouldn’t expect us to be grateful for this.

For four years everybody made mistakes. The administration made mistakes and admitted them. My people and leaders made mistakes as well and we regret them.

But now, in the last two months, we have had a fresh start; a new strategy with new ideas and tactics. These were reached after studying previous mistakes and were designed to reverse the setbacks we witnessed in the course of this war...

...The Democrats just offered al-Qaeda victory on a silver plate. For free.

After 48 Years... Again Al-Shuaiba Air Base Goes Back to Iraqis

Haider Ajina sends the following from Aswat Al-Iraq or “Voices of Iraq” from Apr 26, 2007:
------------------------------------------------------------------

Al-Shuaiba airbase back to Iraqis for second time in 48 years

Basra, Apr 26, (VOI) – Forty-eight years has passed between the handover of al-Shuaiba airbase from the British forces to the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) in 1959 and its handover to the 10th division of the Iraqi army two days ago. During these 48 years the map of the world has changed, many concepts, ideas and theories have evolved, disproving others that scientists previously held true, but man's will to remain free and to be the master of his own land has not changed.

The British forces on Tuesday handed over al-Shuaiba airbase, 40 km from western Basra, to the 10th division of the Iraqi army, after it having been a vital airbase for the British and Danish forces since 2003. A military parade was held during which the Iraqi flag was raised and the British and Danish flags were lowered in reference to the return of Iraqi sovereignty.

With the handover of al-Shuaiba airbase, the presence of the multi-national forces will be confined to two bases: the presidential palaces in central Basra, 550 km south of Baghdad, and Basra International Airport in the northwest of the city.

Al-Shuaiba airbase was first used by the British forces on March 9, 1915 after they won their battle against the Ottoman Turks in World War I, as part of what the British forces called 'The Mesopotamian campaign,' which means the campaign between the two rivers, referring to the Euphrates and the Tigris rivers.

"On November 6, 1914, the first British battalion of the 16th legion landed on Fao beach, raised the British flag and lowered the flag of the Ottoman Empire," Ali Jabir, a retired brigadier, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"Under the command of Sir A. Bart, the British forces on November 23, 1914 managed to occupy Basra and staged a military parade, to which foreign consuls and prominent figures from Basra were invited, to celebrate what they called 'the liberation of Iraq' from the despotism of the Ottoman Empire," Jabir continued.

Explaining the strong reactions to the British occupation of Basra, Jabir said that the situation turned upside down as soon as the occupying forces held sway.

"Despite serious conflicts at that time between the southern Iraqi tribes and the Ottoman government, which local residents considered their main enemy before the occupation, religious groups in Najaf called for fighting the new occupying forces," Jabir said. Muhammad Saeed al-Habobi, a well-known love poet in Najaf, was one of the Iraqi men of religion who called on people to join al-Shuaiba Battle, where the British forces were on the verge of defeat had it not been for their intrigue. According to Jabir, al-Habobi could not bear the shock of the defeat. "He fell severely ill and was bedridden until he died in Nassiriya on June 16, 1915."

After holding sway over all Iraqi provinces, the British forces started to build stable bases, among which was al-Shuaiba base. "In 1920, the Royal Air Force (RAF) set up a camp at al-Shuaiba where it deployed the 84th company, which was replaced in 1940 by the 244th company that fought the anti-colonial Rashid Ali al-Kilani Movement in World War II," a British media source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"Our backs were bleeding severely under the scourge of the feudal system in Missan's rural areas. We could not afford to pay rent to the landlord of the land. My two brothers and I considered leaving and chose Basra as our destination. We arrived there after a five-day journey on foot," Hajj Hassan, one of the workers at al-Shuaiba base during the British occupation in the 1930s, who is now over 90-years old, told VOI.

"We were lucky that we were chosen by al-Karka, the Indian soldiers in the British army, otherwise known then as the Indian cavalry. They took us to a camp in the heart of the desert called al-Shuaiba. We worked there for several years: my brothers worked in construction and in the transportation of iron and I worked as a supervisor because of my ability to read and write," Hassan recounted.

"We were paid 14 rupees per week. A rupee is the standard unit of money in India, which was then equal to 60 Iraqi fils (1 Iraqi dinar = 1000 fils)," Jabir explained.

For more than three decades Basra's al-Shuaiba remained one of the most vital bases for the British forces in Iraq. After the July 14, 1958 Revolution, which put an end to the royal reign and declared Iraq a republic, al-Shuaiba airbase was handed over to the IQAF in 1959.

"In fact, al-Shuaiba airbase remained in service until the second Gulf War in 1991. It was heavily bombarded on January 17, the first day of the U.S.-led war against Iraq in the aftermath of the Kuwait invasion," Colonel Muhammad Saeed al-Mudhafar told VOI.

"Afterwards an air blockade was imposed by the United States on southern and northern Iraq," al-Mudhafar continued.

"After the U.S. invasion of Iraq in March 2003, al-Shuaiba airbase was reestablished as a base for supplying the British forces. It turned into a vital and busy military base with more than 8,000 soldiers from 13 countries, including Britain, Denmark, Japan, the Czech Republic, Italy, The Netherlands, Bosnia, Spain, Estonia, Ukraine, Romania and the United States," al-Mudhafar said.

"In February 2006, the British forces decided to transfer their troops from al-Shuaiba base to the Basra International Airport," he added.

In March and April 2007, two British bases were handed over to the 10th division of the Iraqi army. The first base was in downtown's al-Saie neighborhood and the second was in Shatt al-Arab Hotel in northern Basra.
Haider Ajina comments:

The above shows a slice of history about southern Iraq since WW1. As is evident from this hand over, Basra is gradually and surely heading towards taking over its own affairs. Basra province with its provincial capita Basra is Iraq’s second largest population concentration and includes Iraq’s second largest city. Basra province is 7,363 sq mi and has population of 2.6 million. This represents almost 10% of the population of Iraq and 4.5% of Iraq’s territory. Basra is oil rich and home to Iraq’s sea port.

As to operation ‘Rule of Law’, ‘Fardh al-Qanoon’ or what we know as the ‘Surge’. The spokes person for the Iraqi commander of the operation, General Musawi, stated that security in the capital Baghdad has improved substantially. Sectarian killing have been substantially reduced and bombing have declined measurable. He said "Before the commencement of the Fardh al-Qanoon plan, gunmen used to launch between 15 to 18 attacks every day, but now these attacks reached seven as maximum, the matter considered as a success to the security plan,". The boroughs in Baghdad of Al-Kargh, Al-Ghzaliah and Al-Yarmook are now in phase two of the operation. Phase one of operation ‘Rule of Law’ is purging boroughs from terrorists or out laws. Phase two is securing borough with portable barriers. Phase three is holding the ground and providing services to the residents. Phase four is returning those families who have fled. The last phase, phase five is turning over the security to the interior ministry.

Iranian Regime Is "Proud to Be Democrat"

The Iranian Regime is stumping for the democrats...
Boy, the Iranian press is about as biased as the American press.
Republicans just can't catch a break!

The story above was published in the official Iranian Fars News on Friday.
They must have been impressed with the democratic presidential candidates, especially since only 4 of the 8 democrats think their is a global War on Terror.

And, the regime is echoing Senator Harry Reid's statements that the "War is Lost."
They couldn't let a line like that one just slip away.
Even the Iranian newspapers smell blood in Iraq and it's American.
MEHR News reported:

Vietnam flashback

TEHRAN, April 27 (MNA) -- The U.S. Senate recently passed a bill according to which U.S. military forces would have to leave Iraq by March 2008. However, President George W. Bush has repeatedly stated that he would veto the bill.
But it appears likely the U.S. will be forced to leave Iraq in a far more humiliating way than the Soviet Union left Afghanistan.

This would be a major defeat for the United States almost as bad as the Vietnam debacle.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have cited the increasing unrest in Iraq as the main reason why U.S. forces should be withdrawn from the country.

The Democrats in Congress believe that stability can only be established in Iraq through a political solution, although such views seem overly optimistic, like the White House’s claim four years ago that U.S. troops would be welcomed as liberators. However, U.S. citizens are worried about the White House’s mismanagement of the war since it has become evident that maintaining stability in Iraq is almost impossible.

Many U.S. officials have even admitted that the implementation of Bush’s ambitious policies in Iraq over the past four years has been a miserable failure. Iraq has become a smoldering ruin while Bush is trying to prevent a total collapse by calling for the deployment of even more troops to the region.

Yet, after a meeting with Bush, Reid told journalists that the United States had lost the war and that a troop surge would not help. He went on to say that success in Iraq would only be possible through political and economic means, not war and bloodshed.
The Iranians have found their party!

And they're not the only ones...

Middle East terror organizations are excited about what they heard from the democratic presidential candidates in last night's debate.
World Net Daily has more on this democratic fan base.

Murtha: "I've Lost Confidence in the Military"

John Murtha hits bottom:

"Look, these guys have lied to us so much, I've even lost confidence in the military."
I'm not sure...
Is this more disgusting than calling innocent troops "cold-blooded killers", or not?

And, here is Murtha earlier this week describing Iraq...

REP. JOHN MURTHA (D), Pennsylvania: One of the previous speakers said, "We." I hear this all the time, "We're fighting, we're fighting terrorists." We're not fighting terrorism! We're sitting here in an air-conditioned place while they're out there in dust!
It sounds like Murtha is confusing the responsiblities of Congress with those of the military.
This guy's a bumbling disgrace.

After Nigerian Lesbians Wed... Islamists Threaten Stoning

It was a heck of a wedding bash...
Until the Islamists came in and bulldozed the building.

5 lesbians and "film actresses" in the "local home-video industry" are in hiding today from the Islamists who want to stone them. (BBC Image)

A group of lesbians decided to get married last weekend.
Now they are in hiding from the Islamists who want to stone them.
The BBC reported:

A Nigerian lesbian who "married" four women last weekend in Kano State has gone into hiding from the Islamic police, with her partners.
Under Sharia law, adopted in the state seven years ago, homosexuality and same-sex marriages are outlawed and considered very serious offences.

The theatre where the elaborate wedding celebration was held on Sunday has been demolished by Kano city's authorities.

Lesbianism is also illegal under Nigeria's national penal code.

Nigeria's parliament is considering tightening its laws on homosexuality.

Kano's Hisbah board, which uses volunteers to enforce Islamic law, told the BBC that the women's marriage was "unacceptable".

The BBC's Bala Ibrahim in Kano says Aunty Maiduguri and her four "wives" are thought to have gone into hiding the day after they married.

All five women, who are believed to be "film actresses" in the "local home-video industry", were born Muslims, otherwise they would not be covered by Sharia law.
All Africa has more on the Nigerian lesbians in hiding:

Already bulldozers on the order of the state government have demolished the theatre and other theaters around the vicinity.

The marriage according to a witness, took place with fanfare and concerts which lasts for two days. Her 'spouses' include Aisha Yola, Maryam Soba, Hadiza Single Baby and Hadiza Maiduguri who are now in hiding, as police, Hisbah and community leaders ordered that they be arrested.

The White Feather Postcard Campaign

In the words of a Great American Thinker:

We live in a time of great moronitude. Morons, everywhere, rising from their morasses, massing and moving forward. In their multitudes, the morons march inexorably to the moronocy...
March, morons. March on...

Keeping this in mind... Reader Cornhusker thought that the best and easiest way to share your disgust for the moronocy of defeatists on the Left is to send each and everyone of them a White Feather postcard like the one below:

Click on Feather to Enlarge, Print, and Send

Here is another example for you if you feel the need to fill in the feather before you send it:

And, another...

INTRODUCING THE WHITE FEATHER POSTCARD CAMPAIGN
Digger History explains the historical significance:

The tradition of giving someone the "white feather of cowardice" goes back several hundred years, but became a populist issue in England during WW1.
In Australia it was less common but still applied.
Michelle Malkin introduced the new symbol for the 2007 Congress yesterday.
Cornhusker adds this:

Okay,

Here is my final idea! I think that mailing postcards will be more effective than sending feathers or e-mailing these idiots...BESIDES I am sick to death of them ignoring me! So I will snail-mail them postcards that others can see and that will put it right out front how we feel. A letter arrives in a sealed envelope which gets immediately thrown away or ignored. This we can send to all kinds of people in the media, on the internet...etc etc! Sound good?

By the way, if you look closely after the words "SURRENDER BILL" at the bottom of the postcard, you will see a worm. I can't think of anything more appropriate to send to these people, can you?

Do you have a list of the roll call vote in both the Senate and the House? I will make a postcard for each of the congressmen that voted for this atrocity!! I just started with Senator Clinton because she is one of the worst!

Let me know when you get this and how I can get a list of congressmen and women who voted.

US Arrests Senior Al Qaeda Leader Entering Iraq

** Former Saddam Hussein officer and Al Qaeda Leader is captured entering Iraq!
Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi is a top deputies of Osama Bin Laden:

Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi is one of Usama bin Laden’s top global deputies, personally chosen by bin Laden to monitor al Qaeda operations in Iraq. Al-Hadi was the former Internal Operations Chief for al Qaeda. He has been associated with numerous attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan and has been known to facilitate communication between al Qaeda in Iraq and al Qaeda. Al-Hadi rose to the rank of Major in Saddam Hussein’s army before moving to Afghanistan to fight against the Soviet Union. He has a reputation for being a skilled, intelligent, and experienced commander and is an extremely well-respected al Qaeda leader. He has commanded numerous terrorist training camps in Afghanistan. Al-Hadi is reportedly still in contact with Usama bin Laden.
Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi has ties with Al Qaeda in Iraq and extremist groups in Pakistan and Afghanistan including the Taliban.

Photo from Rewards for Justice
The BBC is reporting on this breaking news:
The US says it has arrested a senior al-Qaeda operative on his way to Iraq to plan future attacks.
A Pentagon spokesman said Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi had links to militant leaders in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He was heading to Iraq to take over al-Qaeda operations and plot attacks against targets in the West, the Pentagon said.

Reports said he was also accused of involvement in plots to assassinate Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said the suspect was "one of al-Qaeda's highest ranking and senior operatives at the time of his detention.

"He is associated with leaders of extremist groups allied with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and including the Taleban," he added.
It is not clear if Abdul Hadi al-Iraqi maintained contact with Iraqi officials over the past decade as many other Intelligence and Military officers from Saddam Hussein's regime did.

Caught on Tape: Shocking Video of Iranian Regime Cracking Down on Women!

This is a SHOCKING video captured inside the regime!!

The regime began detaining women this week for violating strict new Islamic dress code rules.
The mullahs are not winning any new friends on this one.

Kamangir links to a sad and shocking video talked about by blogger Malakut of police arresting a screaming woman for breaking the dress code. This is just a sad and horrible violation of women's rights that is not getting much attention in the Western media.
(Video 1 minute 26 seconds)

** Kamangir translated what the Iranian woman is screaming while she is being arrested.

There are reports that already 150,000 women have been arrested or detained inside the regime for violating strict new Islamic dress code rules.

ADN Kronos reported- "An unspecified number of the women taken into custody were also forced to undergo psychological counseling for not wearing a proper veil."

** Update: Stefania has pictures from Iran of brave women defying the regime that you will not believe.

Iran Deploys Notorious IRGC Heavies to Positions in Europe

Revolutionary Guard General Saeed Ghassemi who was just deployed to Europe started recruiting suicide bombers not long ago.

Winston passed on this news from Iran Press News (Persian):

Persian language news outlet "Iran Press News" reports that two notorious IRGC commanders have been dispatched to Europe as Military Attaches' of the Iranian embassies. These two are Brig. General Saeed Ghasemi, head of intelligence at IRGC 27th mechanized division, and the other one is infamous Ansar-hezballah militia leader Brig. General Hossein alah-Karam who is also known for his brutal suppression of students and political activists in late 1990s. The former's posting is not mentioned but the latter seems to be posted to the Iranian embassy in Croatia.

Gen. Ghassemi, aka Haj Saeed, is the one who started recruiting suicide bombers a few months ago.
This news was cross-posted at Western Standard.

In May 2006, in his address to the 300 gathered students in Tehran, Revolutionary Guard General Saeed Ghassemi urged Hamas to continue the fight against Israel:

"If you abandon the sword, that will be the beginning of your end."

General Petraeus Warns of Democrat's Surrender Plan (Video)

This is amazing!... These comments by General Petraeus at the Pentagon did not make any headlines.

In fact... Associated Press writer Lolita C. Baldor did not even mention that General Petraeus warned about dire consequences in Iraq if the US would follow the democratic surrender plan.

It obviously did not fit with the story.

As democrats voted to surrender in Iraq today...
Across town General Petreus warned against an Iraqi troop withdrawal.

General Petreaus, the top US general in Iraq, gave a stark message to Washington officials at the Pentagon today. Petraeus said, as quoted from the FOX News video below:

"My sense is that there would be an increase or resumption in sectarian violence were the presence of our forces and Iraqi forces were to be reduced. It can get much, much worse than it was."
General Petreaus pointed to two worrying developments- the increased profile of Al Qaeda in Iraq and more and more evidence obtained by US forces that Iran is trying to destabilize the situation by funding insurgent groups.

It is absolutely appalling that this did not even make it into the mainstream news articles!

Let Freedom Ring has it right... Look who's not listening to the generals...
Democrats won't show up to their meetings.
The media won't report what they say!

Joe Lieberman BLASTS Democrat's Surrender Bill!! (Video)

Senator Joe Lieberman handed the the "white feather democrats" their surrender rhetoric right back to them on the Senate floor today...

Senator Kit Bond chimed in:

From FOX News Special Report
Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) said Democrats will own a newly revitalized Al Qaeda.
And... Democrats will own a new 9-11 style attack by a newly revitalized Al Qaeda!

** Is it really any surprise then that jihadist websites are quoting Harry Reid word for word?

Here is Senator Joe Lieberman's speech to the white feather democrats today in the Senate as posted at The Tank, via Michelle Malkin:

“Mr. President, the supplemental appropriations bill we are debating today contains language that would have Congress take control of the direction of our military strategy in Iraq.

Earlier this week the Senate Majority Leader spoke at the Woodrow Wilson Center and laid out the case for why he believes we must do this—why the bill now before this chamber, in his view, offers a viable alternative strategy for Iraq.

In his speech Monday, the Majority Leader described the several steps that this new strategy for Iraq would entail. Its first step, he said, is to “transition the U.S. mission away from policing a civil war—to training and equipping Iraqi security forces, protecting U.S. forces, and conducting targeted counter-terror operations.”

I ask my colleagues to take a step back for a moment and consider this plan.

When we say that U.S. troops shouldn’t be “policing a civil war,” that their operations should be restricted to this narrow list of missions, what does this actually mean?

To begin with, it means that our troops will not be allowed to protect the Iraqi people from the insurgents and militias who are trying to terrorize and kill them. Instead of restoring basic security, which General Petraeus has argued should be the central focus of any counterinsurgency campaign, it means our soldiers would instead be ordered, by force of this proposed law, not to stop the sectarian violence happening all around them—no matter how vicious or horrific it becomes.

In short, it means telling our troops to deliberately and consciously turn their backs on ethnic cleansing, to turn their backs on the slaughter of innocent civilians—men, women, and children singled out and killed on the basis of their religion alone. It means turning our backs on the policies that led us to intervene in the civil war in Yugoslavia in the 1990s, the principles that today lead many of us to call for intervention in Darfur.

This makes no moral sense at all.

...Al Qaeda’s own leaders have repeatedly said that one of the ways they intend to achieve victory in Iraq is to provoke civil war. They are trying to kill as many people as possible today, precisely in the hope of igniting sectarian violence, because they know that this is their best way to collapse Iraq’s political center, overthrow Iraq’s elected government, radicalize its population, and create a failed state in the heart of the Middle East that they can use as a base.

That is why Al Qaeda blew up the Golden Mosque in Samarra last year. And that is why we are seeing mass casualty suicide bombings by Al Qaeda in Baghdad now.

The sectarian violence that the Majority Leader says he wants to order American troops to stop policing, in other words, is the very same sectarian violence that Al Qaeda hopes to ride to victory. The suggestion that we can draw a bright legislative line between stopping terrorists in Iraq and stopping civil war in Iraq flies in the face of this reality.

I do not know how to say it more plainly: it is Al Qaeda that is trying to cause a full-fledged civil war in Iraq.

...In sum, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t withdraw combat troops from Iraq and still fight Al Qaeda there. If you believe there is no hope of winning in Iraq, or that the costs of victory there are not worth it, then you should be for complete withdrawal as soon as possible.

There is another irony here as well.

...As far as I can tell, none of the supporters of withdrawal have attempted to explain why October 1 is the magic date—what strategic or military significance this holds.

Why not September 1? Or January 1? This is a date as arbitrary as it is inflexible... a deadline for defeat.
Jules Crittenden has more on the democrat's legislation for surrender, failure and genocide in Iraq, etc.,
A Jacksonian explains Senator Reid's mischaracterization and insult of Gen. Petraeus' views.

Update: Even CNN Iraqi correspondents know that troop withdrawal would mean giving Iraq to Iran and Al Qaeda.

Democracy Project explains how you know when you've lost.

Update 2: Joe Lieberman has more in the Washington Post- "One Choice in Iraq":

Last week a series of coordinated suicide bombings killed more than 170 people. The victims were not soldiers or government officials but civilians -- innocent men, women and children indiscriminately murdered on their way home from work and school.

If such an atrocity had been perpetrated in the United States, Europe or Israel, our response would surely have been anger at the fanatics responsible and resolve not to surrender to their barbarism.

Unfortunately, because this slaughter took place in Baghdad, the carnage was seized upon as the latest talking point by advocates of withdrawal here in Washington. Rather than condemning the attacks and the terrorists who committed them, critics trumpeted them as proof that Gen. David Petraeus's security strategy has failed and that the war is "lost."

And today, perversely, the Senate is likely to vote on a binding timeline of withdrawal from Iraq.
It looks like Joe nailed that one!
At least there is one democrat who supports democracy in Iraq.

How sad that the democratic party has been reduced to a bunch of defeatists unwilling to sacrifice for their nation and who consistently use troops as political pawns.

150,000 Iranian Women Arrested For Breaking Dress Code!

Pictures via Winston, Fars and Mehr News
Since the crackdown by the regime this past weekend, over 150,000 women have been arrested on veil charges or for wearing clothing deemed too tight.
ADN Kronos reported:

Some 150,000 women have been detained in Iran for violating strict new Islamic dress code rules, the country's top police officer has announced. "During the first four days [since the code came into effect] we have picked up 150,000 women who were not properly veiled, but many of them were released after they signed an admission of guilt and a formal apology," General Ismail Ahmadi Moghaddam told journalists. An unspecified number of the women taken into custody were also forced to undergo psychological counseling, Moghaddam said.

“Only 13 of these women are still being held and they will have to stand trial," he explained.

Some prominent politicians have criticised the government and the security forces for the way the matter has been handled.

“Certain methods produce undesired results," said Ayatollah Seyyed Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi. “Dragging women and girls to police stations for having some hair out of place, not only won't serve to bring morality to the country, but will have very negative effects on it," he added.
But you know what the mullahs, say...

There are 3 groups of women:

The first group... he said are the women who are badly veiled who are like buses who everyone and anyone can ride.

The second group... are women who are wearing scarves without the Islamic overcoats; they are like taxis who only pick up certain passengers.

And finally, in the third group... there are women like my wife who are like donkeys who let only one person ride them!

Iran Says It Can Make "Nowhere Safe" For the US

A high ranking Iranian official said it could make "nowhere safe" for the US if Iran is attacked and that it will bomb Israel if it is attacked by the US.
ADN Kronos reported:

Iran will attack Israel if Washington decides to launch a military strike against the country over its nuclear programme, the Iranian deputy interior minister Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr said on Thursday. "If the United States should attack us we will launch tens of thousands of missiles able to strike US targets and destroy Israel," said Zolghadr, a former commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, the Pasdaran. Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly called for the destruction of Israel, a state which is not recognized by the Islamic Republic.

"The United States at this time is trying to weaken the Islamic Republic by attempting to create instability and crises," the government official added.

Democrats Pass Their Surrender Bill From House to Senate

UPDATE: Democratic Senators Join Democratic House in Surrender!

Al Qaeda's going to party in the Ummah tonight!

Democrats passed their surrender bill from the House to the Senate today:

The House on Wednesday narrowly approved a $124 billion war spending bill that would require American troops to begin withdrawing from Iraq by Oct. 1, setting the stage for the first veto fight between President Bush and majority Democrats.

Only hours after Gen. David H. Petraeus, the commander in Iraq, told lawmakers he needed more time to gauge the effectiveness of a troop buildup there, the House voted 218 to 208 to pass a measure that sought the removal of most combat forces by next spring. Mr. Bush has said unequivocally and repeatedly that he will veto it.

“Last fall, the American people voted for a new direction in Iraq,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California. “They made it clear that our troops must be given all they need to do their jobs, but that our troops must be brought home responsibly, safely, and soon.”

Republicans accused Democrats of establishing a “date certain” for America’s defeat in Iraq and capitulating to terrorism.

The US lost more than twice as many soldiers during the Clinton years than the country has lost in Iraq.
But, that wasn't an issue back then for the media or democrats when America was not at war.

The Examiner makes a recommendation on where Bush should sign his veto.

Liberal Racist Meltdown Over Conservative Cheerleading

WOW!
We've all seen how hateful liberals feel about suffering conservatives.

But, put a conservative in a cheerleading outfit and they go ape!...
Especially if that conservative happens to be a minority!

Here are the first four comments at Wonkette today after posting Michelle Malkin's L-O-S-E-R Harry Reid video:

It only goes downhill from there:

Classy bunch.
A fine representation of the liberal party.

Do you suppose Obama and Hillary will hold a press conference on this latest liberal meltdown?

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) called for Reid to resign, via The Hill:
“I think it's highly irresponsible for the leader of the U.S. Senate to have said that and, just speaking for myself as the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee, I think that the leader of the Senate should step down from that position.”

When Moonbats Snap... Nut Threatens Republicans With Rifle! (Updated!)

"He pulled the rifle from the trunk of his Mercedes, removed the Bush & Cheney pictures from the office, and promised to be back if Bush vetoed the emergency war spending bill!" -Nevada Republican Party Executive Director Zachary Moyle.

Matthew Hunter Kramer said he would "take action" if Bush vetoed the spending bill.(FOX 5 Las Vegas)
FOX 5 reported:
A large cache of weapons were discovered inside of his vehicle -- including three swords, a flare gun with .12-gauge shotgun shells and a .12 gauge shotgun. Las Vegas police did not reveal the particular bill that outraged Kramer, but said he told his victim he would kill everyone at the Republican offices when he returned... He originally asked an official there how he could join the party.
A man in Nevada threatened Republican officials with a rifle if...
BUSH VETOES THE EMERGENCY SPENDING BILL!

Drudge and the AP report:

A man accused of threatening a Nevada Republican Party official with a rifle was arrested Tuesday in a vehicle in which police found swords, knives, a shotgun, shells and a flare gun, authorities said.

Matthew Hunter Kramer, 31, did not resist officers who arrested him on a warrant issued after the April 3 confrontation at state Republican Party offices in Las Vegas.

Zachary Moyle, executive director of the state GOP, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Kramer invited him to look at something in the trunk of his Mercedes before pulling out a rifle, pointing it at his face and warning that he would be back if President Bush vetoed an emergency war spending bill being considered by Congress.

...Kramer also removed photos of Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney from the wall of the office and threatened to harm staff members, Moyle said. Kramer left his cell phone number with office staff before leaving, police said.

He is charged with criminal syndicalism, assault with a deadly weapon and aiming a firearm at a person, police Officer Martin Wright said.

Criminal syndicalism makes it a crime to advocate sabotage, violence or terrorism to accomplish industrial or political reform, said Ron Bloxham, a Clark County prosecutor. It carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison.

Nevada Republican Party Executive Director Zachary Moyle stands outside the GOP office on Sahara Avenue and Durango Drive on Tuesday. An unidentified man threatened Moyle with a gun and took framed photos of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney from the office. (Review Journal)

The Review Journal has more on the crime:

Moyle said the man ranted about America's dependence on oil and the Iraq war.

The man said he had two brothers serving in Iraq and didn't want President Bush to veto the emergency war spending bill that sets a timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

He then pulled out a hunting rifle and pointed it in Moyle's face.

"If this bill gets vetoed, I'm going to come back," he said.

...The man put the gun back into his trunk and stormed back into the office. Moyle said the man gave the staff at the office his cell phone and then pulled down two framed photos of Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney that were hanging on an office wall.

"He asked if he could pay for them (the photos)," Moyle said. "I told him, 'No, they're on us.'"
I spoke with Zachary Moyle and with permission I am posting his account of this frightening situation:

Jim-

First off, always happy to oblige a conservative blogger rather than a reporter…..thanks for all you guys do.

I will see what I can track down for you.

The guy’s name is Matthew Hunter Kramer. He was driving a Mercedes with California plates.

The basic story is this:

He came in very well dressed, khakis, navy blazer, and told our Office Manager he wanted to talk to someone about joining the Republican Party.

When I came downstairs I shook his hand, and he appeared pretty nervous. 30 seconds into the conversation I could tell this was not a Republican and someone who just wanted to berate us. Now, we get these types of people all the time, and it is nothing new. Protocol is to ask them to leave the office. He told me he was in the oil industry and that the War in Iraq was all about oil and nothing else. He mentioned he had two brothers overseas and that we were all idiots. At this point he was loud and demeaning, so my staff had left the room as they didn’t know how to handle this.

Finally, he asked what type of car I drive. I told him I drive a Ford Explorer. At this point he says, well, I want to show you my car, it doesn’t use any foreign oil sources. All I wanted to do was get him out of the office, so I said sure. We then walked out to his Mercedes, where he showed me it was a diesel. At this point, he says, I have something I want to give you. He opens the trunk and pulls out a book Theodore Roosevelt, Letters and Speeches. He hands it to me and says, “Here, I want you to read about a real Republican.”

At this point I looked into the trunk and notice he had several hunting rifles. He noticed me looking at them and grabbed one, saying, You are a Republican, you guys are gun owners, right? I said yes. He then drops the rifle to his side, holding his hand just above the stock. Now, keep in mind that as a gun owner and a Marine, I am can tell if he can get a shot off or not. He then pushes the rifle towards my nose (about 2 inches away) and says well, I’m a gun owner too and I think it’s about time we took back this country. At this point I can see the barrel of the rifle but I also know his hand is not on the trigger. He looks at me and says, “Don’t You know that America hates you? If your President vetoes this bill, I will be back. Do you understand me?”

At this point I simply said, yes sir, I do. Then the funny part happens.

He says I’m going to leave you my cell phone number so you can call me when this bill goes through. He puts the rifle back in the trunk and heads back into the office. He walks into the lobby and grabs a sheet of paper, writes down his cell phone number, and hands it to me. At this point I am behind the counter and he is out front in our lobby. He than runs over to the wall where our pictures are hanging and without asking, grabs the pictures of Bush and Cheney off the wall, says “I love these guys” (sarcastically) and proceeds towards the door. As he is about to open the door, he looks back and asks, “Do you want me to pay for these?” I said “No thanks sir, they’re on us.” He then got in his car and drove away.

Now, a couple of quick points.

1. I don’t think he intended to use the rifle. He just wanted to make a threat. The charge they have him on essentially is threatening someone for political purposes, and that is exactly what he did. So the charge fits.

2. This guy is clearly not all there. The whole time he was talking he was shaking and appeared off. He uttered a bunch of conspiracy theories and was ranting about oil and natural fuel sources. My staff also felt that he was mentally unstable. He later told police that he “traded” me the Roosevelt book for the pictures of Bush and Cheney, which is obviously not the case.

3. While I was outside and had the rifle pointed at me, another employee walked by. She didn’t know he was threatening me, (it is not uncommon for a fellow Republican to show another Republican his rifle) but she did see him with the rifle. He told police and he told the reporters on last night’s news that he never removed the rifle from his trunk. So she is a witness to that and can verify it. He also told police that he only had one rifle in the trunk and that it was an antique Black Powder rifle. In fact, he had 4 or 5 it was not a black powder rifle.

4. Back to him being crazy, I was not sure about reporting this at first. Yet after talking with Metro, ATF, Homeland, Capital Police, and Secret Service, they have all confirmed that this guy is nuts (no professional opinions yet, just their impressions). So I am very glad we did what we did and called this in. The man is mentally unstable and clearly is not all there. You wouldn’t know it from looking at him, but as soon as he opens his mouth it is obvious. In light of recent events, you wouldn’t want to find out this guy did something stupid and know you never reported him for something like this.

5. They released this guy today. I asked the officer about this and he explained he wish they wouldn’t have. He asked us to beef up our security measures just in case. Kramer is being charged on three counts, and when I asked the officer, he explained there is no way that at least two of the three don’t stick.

Hope that helps. Again, this guy is clearly not all there, and everyone I have talked to, including the reporters who interviewed him, have said the same. For this reason alone, we sincerely hope that this goes to trial soon and he gets put away.
Godspeed Zach- Be safe.
Hopefully the story ends here.

Michelle Malkin is adding this to her mugshot collection.

George McGovern Whines

Before there was sore loser John Kerry, there was sore loser Al Gore.
Before there was sore loser Al Gore, there was sore loser Jimmy Carter.
Before there was sore loser Jimmah, there was sore loser George McGovern...

Bitter democrat George McGovern whines to Dick Cheney in the LA Times that he is really not a big loser:

Blah, blah, blah... There is one more point about 1972 for Cheney's consideration. After winning 11 state primaries in a field of 16 contenders, I won the Democratic presidential nomination. I then lost the general election to President Nixon. Indeed, the entrenched incumbent president, with a campaign budget 10 times the size of mine, the power of the White House behind him and a highly negative and unethical campaign, defeated me overwhelmingly. But lest Cheney has forgotten, a few months after the election, investigations by the Senate and an impeachment proceeding in the House forced Nixon to become the only president in American history to resign the presidency in disgrace.

Who was the real loser of '72?
You were.
And, you're still bitter.
Let it go.

Senior Taliban: "Osama Bin Laden Is Overseeing Operations in Iraq"

Let's see...
Democrats say they want to leave Iraq to go fight Al Qaeda...
So what will they say about this?

Did Osama just throw a wrench into the democratic plan to flee Iraq?

Top Taliban official, Mullah Dadullah, told Aljazeera in an exclusive interview that Osama Bin Laden is still alive and is directing operations in Iraq.

An undated video grab shows Mullah Dadullah, top Taliban commander, at an undisclosed location in Afghanistan. Afghan and NATO troops have surrounded more than 200 Taliban insurgents and Mullah Dadullah might be among them, a senior Afghan security official said on Tuesday. (via RVN/Reuters)

Reuters reported this news just minutes ago that Osama Bin Laden is not only alive and well, but it overseeing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan:

Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is orchestrating militants' operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, a senior commander of Afghan Islamist group Taliban said in remarks broadcast on Wednesday.

Bin Laden has not made any video statements for many months raising speculation that he might have died.

"He is drawing plans in Iraq and Afghanistan... Praise God he is alive," Mullah Dadullah told Al Jazeera television.

In September, a French newspaper quoted French foreign intelligence service as saying the Saudi intelligence were convinced bin Laden had died of typhoid in Pakistan in August.

Dadullah said bin Laden ordered the attack on February 27 at the U.S. Bagram base during a visit by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney to Afghanistan.

"Do you remember the martyrdom operation inside the Bagram base which targeted a senior American official ... this operation was the result of blessed plans put by him," Dadullah said. Jazeera said the U.S. official Dadullah was referring to was Cheney.

"He (bin Laden) guided us through it," he said, adding that no Afghan would have been able to penetrate the base if it was not for the world's most wanted militant.

About 14 people were killed, including one American and one South Korean soldier in the suicide bombing which militants said targeted Cheney. A U.S. official then said Cheney was about half a mile away on the base and was not in danger.
Dadullah also told Aljazeera that Osama planned the attack in Afghanistan against Vice President Cheney and that the Taliban has obtained a significant amount of explosives:

A team featuring James Bays, Al Jazeera's Afghanistan correspondent, met some Taliban fighters in Helmand province standing on top of a burnt-out Nato military vehicle.

A cameraman attached to Bays' team was taken to a separate area where the Taliban showed him a store-room of explosives, which were in the process of being converted into anti-tank bombs.

The Taliban fighters also said they possess anti-aircraft weaponry, although they did not permit Al Jazeera to film such equipment.

"Thanks to God we have good guns ... we are ready all the time to face them [Nato and Afghan government forces] in a battle,"
Do you suppose any Republicans will mention this the next time that democrats push a bill to flee Iraq?

Haditha Bombshell!

Clarice Feldman at Macsmind is reporting the latest bombshell from Newsmax on the Haditha case:

Newsmax is reporting that an intelligence officer provided substantial exculpatory evidence in the Haditha case, evidence he says the NCIS sat on, evidence that supports the defendants’ version of the facts, and evidence which indicates the entire incident was an ambush which was being videotaped by our enemies who edited it and handed it over to anti-war activists to present the case in the worst possible way to our troops. If this is so, it would substantiate the belief of Steve Gilbert who early on was sceptical of the claims underlying this case.

Legislation Promoting Life Passes Missouri House

Missouri Representative Dr. Bob Onder (pictured below with the "teen eagles") sends this news from the Missouri House:

On April 23, 2007 the Missouri House approved legislation to formalize support for programs promoting alternatives to abortion. House Bill 1055, sponsored by Rep. Therese Sander (R-Moberly), also brings abortion providers under the umbrella of state regulation, and modifies sexual education requirements school districts can choose from.

Since the 1990s, state legislators have used the appropriations process to fund programs that provide alternatives to abortion—prenatal care, educational services, job training, transportation, and other services—to women during pregnancy and for a year after childbirth. House Bill 1055 establishes the "Missouri Alternatives to Abortion Services Program" in state law, solidifying support for services that help pregnant young women. A public outreach program to inform Missouri women of alternatives to abortion services is established under HB 1055. It also allows the state to contract with entities which provide alternative services. By coordinating through a state agency, women can access services from one place. "There’s no such thing as an unwanted child," said Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-O’Fallon). "There are couples who want to adopt. There are people who are looking for how they can help. And this is a way of connecting women with answers."

Under HB 1055, abortion providers will be subject to the same regulations as other ambulatory surgical centers. Rep. Sander has previously said this is a needed change. Rep. Sander pointed to the need for inspections for safety and sanitation that at present do not apply to abortion clinics.

The "teen eagles" stopped by to visit Rep. Dr. Bob Onder this week.

Why democrats believe that a weakened US or a weakened US military is best for the future of its citizens is still not clear.

Regime Cracks Down on Music... Top Iranian Rapper Reza Pishro Arrested! (Video)

Unlike American rappers, Iranian rappers sing about the Persian empire before it was "invaded by Arab bedouins to be converted to Islam".

Hichkas is one of the Iranian rap groups targeted by the regime.

Iran continued its "moralization" campaign this week and is now targeting underground musicians.

The regime is going after the most popular underground rappers.
ADN Kronos reported:

Police in the Iranian capital Tehran are cracking down on underground musical groups in a 'moralization' campaign which kicked off over the weekend. Security officials carried out raids on three unauthorized recording studios and arrested six members of three diferrent rap and rock groups who had not received the green light to play from the ministry of culture and Islamic orientation. Among those arrested is a top rapper, Reza Pishro, who is very popular among young Iranians. His illegally sold CDs are best selling hits across the country.

For the past two days, police have also been patrolling the apartment building of another star of Iranian rap music, Soroush Lashkari of the Hichkas (Nobody) group, who is at large to escape arrest. Iran Continues Crackdown... Women's Rights Activists Sentenced

The Iranian regime continues its brutal crackdown on women.

Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani (Nooshin Ahmadi Khorasani) sentenced to two years in jail for protesting for women's rights.

ADN Kronos reports on the continued violence against women by the regime in Iran:

Tehran, 24 April (AKI) - A court in Tehran issued on Tuesday a suspended jail sentence for two women's rights activists who had taken part in a rally last June in favour of legislation changes promoting equal opportunities for women. Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani and Parwin Ardalan were sentenced to two years in prison with a suspension of the punishment for taking part in the demonstration in which activists demanded among other things that women be allowed custody of their children in case of a divorce.

Another two women's rights activists, Fariba Davoudi Mohajer and Susan Tahmasebi, have just been sentenced to four and two years in jail respectively for taking part in the same demonstration.

Democrats Open Military Show Trials

Democrats are planning on scoring serious points today as they open show trials against the US military...

It's not bad enough that they call the troops stupid...

That they call the US forces "occupiers" when they are nation building,
That they say men join the army only as a last resort,
That they call the troops mass murderers in Congressional hearings,
That they equate US soldiers to the killers of the Stalin or Pol Pot regimes..

Today the democrats are opening their show trials on the Hill to embarrass the military on their handling of the Tillman and Jessica Lynch cases:

As the Army probed Pat Tillman's death, investigators implored the CIA and Pentagon last year to scour their databanks for aerial video of the friendly fire incident, footage they believed might have been captured as a Predator drone flew over the scene.

Lawmakers plan to press the Pentagon on Tuesday with questions still hovering over the one-time National Football League star's shooting: Was a drone flying overhead when Tillman was killed? Did it videotape the incident?

The military says no such videotape exists, but members of Congress hope to elicit the new information when the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform holds a hearing as part of an investigation into misleading information from the U.S. military. Members of Tillman's family, who have continued to raise questions about the incident, were also scheduled to appear.

The hearing will cover both Tillman's death three years ago and the 2003 rescue of Pfc. Jessica Lynch in Iraq — a story embellished by the military, which videotaped her rescue by special forces, stirring complaints of government media manipulation...
What an absolute disgrace!

Funny, the media can show US soldier snuff films and democrats could care less. But, any attempt to make our country look like the good guys and democrats attack. Sick!

But, please don't question their support for the military!

** Maybe the generals could ask the democrats for some funding to fight the war since the two will finally be together at the same meeting!

Al Qaeda Announces Attack to Rival Hiroshima (Video)

It's a bit confusing that this story did not get more attention yesterday.
Granted it comes from Al Qaeda in Iraq, a group that democrats deny is actually operating in Iraq, but the magnitude of the threat should have garnered it a few headlines in the media outlets anyway. You'd think.

FOX News reported on the story:

The Daily Telegraph reported on Monday:

AL-QAEDA leaders in Iraq are planning the first "large-scale" terrorist attacks on Britain and other western targets with the help of supporters in Iran, according to a leaked intelligence report.

Spy chiefs warn that one operative had said he was planning an attack on "a par with Hiroshima and Nagasaki" in an attempt to "shake the Roman throne", a reference to the West, according to The Times newspaper in the UK.

Another plot could be timed to coincide with Tony Blair stepping down as prime minister, an event described by Al-Qaeda planners as a "change in the head of the company".

The report, produced earlier this month and seen by The Sunday Times, appears to provide evidence that Al-Qaeda is active in Iran and has ambitions far beyond the improvised attacks it has been waging against British and American soldiers in Iraq.

Clashes at Pro-Taliban Protest... At Least 6 Are Dead!

After the Pro-Taliban demonstrators stormed the home of a rival cleric, at least 6 protesters were shot dead.

Four of those killed in the clashes were Pro-Taliban students.

(REUTERS/Ali Imam)

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AFP) - Security forces opened fire on pro-Taliban extremists who tried to storm the house of a rival Islamist leader in a Pakistani tribal region on Monday, killing six people, officials said.

More than 1,000 members of the hardline Lashkar-i-Islami (Army of Islam) organisation gathered in Bara, a town bordering Afghanistan, to demonstrate against the rival Ansar-ul-Islam (Companions of Islam) group, they said.

Some armed members of the mob then marched towards a nearby village to attack the house of Ansar-ul-Islam's leader, Pir Saifur Rehman, a security official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"In a bid to disperse the crowd, local tribal police and paramilitary units opened fire and six people were killed and 10 injured," the official said.

Most of the victims were men in their late teens or early 20s, he said.

Lashkar-i-Islami spokesman Misri Khan said he knew of five people who had died on the spot and dozens of others who were wounded. "The number of dead could go up," he added.

Local tribesmen later said that six bodies were buried in village graveyards near Bara and that the mourners dispersed peacefully.

...Two of the dead were local students who participated in the protest and the other two killed belonged to Lashkar-i-Islami.
This sort of thing sometimes happens when you are out protesting for the Taliban and storm into a rival cleric's home.

Iranian News has more on the clashes:

According to reports school students took out a procession to protest against firing on their colleagues on Sunday.

Three school students were injured in cross-fire between armed supporters of Lashkar-i-Islam and law-enforcement personnel in Bara.

The law-enforcement personnel posted at the house resisted the move which resulted in the crossfire and Lashkar activists opened fire at one of the security checkpoints.

Hundreds of school children and armed supporters of
Lashkar-i-Islam set six check posts of the local militia force on fire.

TV channels reported that the militia force resorted to firing in the air to disperse protesting students and Lashkar activists.

Bush Blasts Democratic Micromanaging of the War! (Video)

President Bush spoke from the White House this morning with General Patreus.
He reinforced his commitment to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and to the young democracy of Iraq.

When questioned about Senator Reid's disgraceful comments from the past week...

Bush said that Senator Reid (and the other 535 micromanaging commanders in chief) should not be telling those who wear the uniform how to do their job!

Bush also said for Congress to micromanage the process is a mistake.
From The White House release:

QUESTION: Mr. President, Senator Reid says you're in denial about Iraq, and that Congress is going to pass a bill that includes a fair and reasonable timetable for withdrawal. Could you compromise? Could you accept anything that looks like that, at all?

THE PRESIDENT: I believe strongly that politicians in Washington shouldn't be telling generals how to do their job. And I believe artificial timetables of withdrawal would be a mistake. An artificial timetable of withdrawal would say to an enemy, just wait them out; it would say to the Iraqis, don't do hard things necessary to achieve our objectives; and it would be discouraging for our troops. And therefore I will strongly reject an artificial timetable withdrawal and/or Washington politicians trying to tell those who wear the uniform how to do their job.

I will, of course, be willing to work with the Congress, both Republicans and Democrats, on a way forward. That's what I said during the Cabinet Room. But I also made it clear that no matter how tough it may look, that for the Congress to micromanage this process is a mistake.
Jules Crittenden notes the latest developments in the quagmire.

Al Qaeda in Iraq Plans "Hiroshima Type" Attack...in Great Britain!!

** Just once... Wouldn't it be nice if the media would ask Senator Reid how he plans on stopping massive Al Qaeda attacks on the West that are being drawn up in Iraq when US forces are brought back home?

As Harry Reid and democrats blast Bush for being in denial on Iraq and continue their push for withdrawal of US troops...

...Al Qaeda in Iraq makes plans for a Hiroshima-type attack not on Baghdad... On Great Britain!
The Daily Telgraph reports:

AL-QAEDA leaders in Iraq are planning the first "large-scale" terrorist attacks on Britain and other western targets with the help of supporters in Iran, according to a leaked intelligence report.

Spy chiefs warn that one operative had said he was planning an attack on "a par with Hiroshima and Nagasaki" in an attempt to "shake the Roman throne", a reference to the West, according to The Times newspaper in the UK.

The report, produced earlier this month and seen by The Sunday Times, appears to provide evidence that Al-Qaeda is active in Iran and has ambitions far beyond the improvised attacks it has been waging against British and American soldiers in Iraq.

There is no evidence of a formal relationship between Al-Qaeda, a Sunni group, and the Shi’ite regime of President Mah-moud Ahmadinejad, but experts suggest that Iran’s leaders may be turning a blind eye to the terrorist organisation’s activities," reports The Times.

The intelligence report also makes it clear that senior Al-Qaeda figures in the region have been in recent contact with operatives in Britain.
It makes you wonder who's really in denial here?

Iranian Officials Discover Cause of Rising Divorce & Crime Rates

The mullahs figured out the reason behind the rising crime and divorce rates...

...Now they're taking action.
(Fars News Photo)

Rooz News discusses the latest discovery by the Iranian regime:

Two days after the harsh words of general Ahmadi Moghadam, the commander of the law enforcement forces about combating women who are not fully observing the Islamic hijab, ...the police launched a campaign to confront young women in Tehran’s 23rd district.

These attacks on women came after law enforcement forces demonstrated repeatedly their failure in bringing security to Western towns of the country, controlling contraband, and the import and export of illegal goods.

Ayatollah Makarem and a few other clerics spoke favorably and in support of Moghadam’s new round of assaults. The same message was sent by Keyhan and Jomhurie Eslami editorials. Makarem said that the law enforcement forces had undertaken some measures, while some individuals were turning it into a scandal and questioning the actions.

Hijab is a required element of Islam, he said, adding that not fully observing it led to the destruction of the family, and rise in divorce and crime rates.

Leftist Hate-Site to Sponsor Presidential Debate!

Tell me, this is a sick joke!

The Leftist Hate-Site The Huffington Post- the same website that posts racist articles and prays for Vice president Cheney's Death- is going to sponsor an online presidential debate!

FOX News has the story:

NEW YORK — The 2008 presidential contenders may soon be slugging it out in cyberspace, with pioneering online-only debates being planned for early next fall, a new media partnership says.

The political blog Huffington Post, online portal Yahoo and Slate Magazine will host the debates — one for Democratic candidates, one for Republicans — sometime after Labor Day, with PBS host Charlie Rose serving as moderator, the sponsors planned to announce Monday.

Voters will be invited to submit questions, and can blog in real time to share their opinions on the candidates' answers.

Arianna Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post, said the idea for online debates was hatched earlier this year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, which bloggers and citizen journalists had been invited to cover.

"It was clear to me, the 2008 campaign was going to be dominated by what's happening on line — new technologies, new media like never before," Huffington said. She then contacted Rose and Slate editor Jacob Weisberg to form a partnership to produce the forums.
Would it be too much to ask for one of the respectable conservative websites that isn't known for hate-speech to sponsor one of the debates?

Iraqis Want Media To Start Condemning Terrorists For a Change

It's probably too much to ask... But, the Iraqis wouldn't mind the media attacking the terrorists instead of the US attempts to squelch the terrorist violence for a change.
Iraq the Model is just asking:

What did the last wave of terror attacks and the many crimes committed against our people all this time reveal?

If we look at how the media handles the situation we'll find something like this almost everywhere;

Dozens killed, scores wounded in attacks suggest failure of security measures…

It's as if the speaker here wants to only emphasize the defect in security measures in a way that honestly angers and disgusts me.
When shall they realize, if ever, that we are dealing with brutal crimes against humanity, a genocide against the people of Iraq? Why don't people talk about the cruelty of the crimes and expose the obvious goals of the terrorists behind the crimes?

Isn't it everyone's duty to expose the criminals, describe their sick ways and purposes and alert the world about the danger?

Where are the media when terrorists use chlorine poisonous gas, acids, and ball bearings to kill and hurt more and more civilians in utter disregard to all written and unwritten laws, ethics and values?

I understand it's the duty of the media to practice scrutiny over the work of governments but isn't it equally their duty to expose criminals and their evil deeds?...

...Instead of telling us to stop fighting back, I'd like to see some people stand up and protest the crimes of the terrorists and tell them to stop the killing and destruction…turn the stop-the-war campaign against the terrorists, is that too much to ask for?

Tell the criminals to stop killing us and stop attacking the people who are risking their lives fighting for liberty and equality.

We're not asking the media and the stop-the-war crowd to carry arms and shoot the terrorists; we just want them to stop shooting at us.

At Least 400 Dead in Nigerian Elections

The BBC has video (HERE) of the violent elections in Nigeria.

The leading monitoring group is calling for the election to be scrapped and held again.

Nigerians line up to cast their vote in Katsina, Nigeria, Saturday, April 21, 2007. The electoral commission head declared polls officially open Saturday in Nigeria's presidential elections and said a failed truck bombing aimed at his headquarters wouldn't halt the vote meant to cement civilian rule. (AP Photo/George Osodi)

At least 400 people were killed in the latest round of elections in oil rich Nigeria.
The Times Online reported:

A FAILED attempt to blow up the headquarters of the electoral commission, violent scenes in the run-up to the vote that left at least 400 dead and the late delivery of ballot papers cast a dark shadow over Nigeria’s presidential election yesterday.

The bombing of the electoral commission in Abuja, the capital, was thwarted when crash barriers stopped a tanker loaded with fuel and gas cylinders before it reached the building.

Militants in the southern state of Bayelsa tried to kidnap the state governor and a vice-presidential candidate in a gun battle that lasted for hours. Ballot papers were delivered late to many parts of the country.

Yesterday’s vote was supposed to be the historic first transfer of power from one civilian administration to another since independence in 1960. Instead, observers say, it paid little more than lip service to democracy.
The EU observers criticized the elections.

President Olusegun Obasanjo says the election was successful despite the violence and charges of election violations.
All Africa reported:

The death of 14 policemen including an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr. O.K.K. Bello, poor logistics and late arrival of materials and pockets of rigging yesterday marred the presidential and National Assembly elections held throughout the country.

But President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senate President, Ken Nnamani described the poll as successful.

Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is presidential candidate of Action Congress (AC) and his All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) counterpart submitted that it was a shame and a national tragedy.

Our correspondents who monitored the event across the country observed that pockets of violence, alleged stuffing of ballot boxes and other electoral malpractices as well as low turnout of voters and disenfranchisement of some eligible voters, whose names did not appear in the voters' register marred the elections.
Some are calling the elections a success.
Considering there has never been a successful democratic transfer of power since independence in the '60's, maybe they are right.

Al Qaeda Warns Vendors: "Do Not Mix Female Tomatoes & Male Cucumbers"

Maybe this is part of the reason that Sunni tribes are turning against the mass murdering lunatics.
Via Chron.Com:

MUQDADIYAH, Iraq — At least two major insurgent groups are battling al-Qaida in provinces outside Baghdad, American military commanders said Friday, an indication of a deepening rift between Sunni guerrilla groups in Iraq.

U.S. officers say a growing number of Sunni tribes are turning against al-Qaida, repelled by the terror group's sheer brutality and austere religious extremism. The tribes are competing with al-Qaida for influence and control over diminishing territory in the face of U.S. assaults, the officers say. The influx of Sunni fighters to areas outside the capital in advance of the security crackdown in Baghdad may have further unsettled the region.

"This is a big turning point," U.S. Maj. David Baker said Friday in the Diyala provincial capital of Baqouba. "If they are fighting against each other, it's better than them fighting against us."

Even Sunnis who want to cooperate with the Shiite-led government are becoming more emboldened to speak out against al-Qaida. In Anbar province, more than 200 Sunni sheiks have decided to form a political party to oppose the terror group, participants said Friday.

The clashes have erupted over the last two to three months, pitting al-Qaida in Iraq against the nationalist 1920 Revolution Brigades in Diyala and Salahuddin provinces north of Baghdad as well as Anbar to the west, U.S. officers said. In Diyala, another hard-line militant Sunni group, the Ansar al-Sunna Army, is also fighting al-Qaida, they said.

"It's happening daily," Lt. Col. Keith Gogas said Thursday in an interview at an Army base in Muqdadiyah, 60 miles northeast of Baghdad. "Our read on it is that that the more moderate, if you will, Sunni insurgents, are finding that their goals and al-Qaida's goals are at odds."

American commanders cite al-Qaida's severe brand of Islam, which is so extreme that in Baqouba, al-Qaida has warned street vendors not to place tomatoes beside cucumbers because the vegetables are different genders, Col. David Sutherland said.
Q and O has more on the mixed vegetables.

Mullah Compares Unveiled Women to Buses: "Anyone Can Ride Them"

Finally, your veil questions are answered...

Mullah Hassani preaches mass transit.

This comes from Shafaati.de

The Supreme Guide’s proxy in western Azarbaijan, the exceedingly vicious and hot-headed Mullah Hassani in his Friday prayer in the city of Rezaiyeh said this against women.

He divided women into 3 groups:

The first group... he said are the women who are badly veiled who are like buses who everyone and anyone can ride.

The second group... are women who are wearing scarves without the Islamic overcoats; they are like taxis who only pick up certain passengers.

And finally, in the third group... there are women like my wife who are like donkeys who let only one person ride them!
So the point is... It just depends on how big of a hurry you're in.
Right?

New Zealand Skinheads Plan Concert to Celebrate Hitler's B-day

The local skinheads are going to party like Nazi youth tonight...

A group photo from the New Zealand skinhead group.
Skinheads are going to celebrate Hitler's birthday this tonight in Wellington, New Zealand with a concert.
The West Australian reports:

A skinhead-organised rock concert by Australian "viking rock" band Blood Red Eagle in Wellington on Saturday to commemorate Adolf Hitler's birthday has appalled Jewish and anti-racist groups.

Local branches of skinhead gang Hammerskins and neo-Nazi organisation Blood and Honour - banned in parts of Europe - are bringing the band to play in the capital, The Dominion Post reported.

This week the Hammerskins announced a change of venue from the Berhampore headquarters of motorcycle gang Satan's Slaves to a secret venue "due to differences".

Although the plans were offensive to many, they were not illegal, Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres said.

"Mercifully, there aren't many people in New Zealand happy to celebrate Hitler's birthday. I don't think it's going to be a very big party."

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20.

Wellington Jewish community leader and Israeli honorary consul David Zwartz said the concert was "distasteful and offensive".

His son was a faithful member of the Taliban until he was beheaded by a 12 year-old...
Now, Ghulam Sakhi is lashing out.

...This sometimes happen when your son works for the Taliban.

The man beheaded in a video by a 12 year-old Taliban member was involved with the Taliban himself for years.

Ghulam Sakhi, father of a militant Ghulam Nabi shows the video grab picture of his son distributed by executioners in the area, during an interview with The Associated Press at his home in a remote village Kili Faqiran in southwestern Pakistan, Thursday April 19, 2007. A video received by The Associated Press this week records the grisly death of Ghulam Nabi, a militant accused of betraying a top deputy to Taliban supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani who was killed in a December airstrike in Afghanistan. Sakhi, said his son was a loyal Taliban member who had fought in Afghanistan and sheltered its leaders in the mud-walled family compound - and said he wanted to avenge his death. (AP Photo/Abdul Rahman)

The retired mosque preacher and father of Ghulam Nabi says his son was a loyal Taliban member and does not understand why they did this to him.
CTV.ca reported:

Sakhi, a retired mosque preacher with a long gray beard, spoke unashamedly of his son's Taliban affiliation and wept twice during an interview in his simple home at the foot of a mountain valley in Baluchistan province.

He said Nabi fought against the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance that helped U.S. forces to victory in Afghanistan.

After returning to Pakistan, Nabi ran a religious school in the Baluchistan capital of Quetta and had regularly sheltered both Osmani and Dadullah at the family compound, the father said.

He said Nabi also bought weapons for Taliban fighters and organized medical treatment for those injured during fighting in Afghanistan.

Some days after Osmani's death, Nabi went to Peshawar and then to Wana, a tribal town considered a militant stronghold, to collect money from Taliban officials to buy guns and food for militants in Afghanistan, Sakhi said.

He said his son called at the end of January to reveal that a tribal council had sentenced him to death on charges of tipping off U.S. forces about Osmani's movements, despite his denials.

His son passed the phone to Dadullah, but the militant leader ignored his pleas for clemency, Sakhi said.

"I talked to him and said you visited us and my son was a close friend so why are you going to hang him? He just said, 'How are you?', and switched off the phone," Sakhi said.

"They are the enemies of Islam," he said of the Taliban. "They are behaving like savages."
It's too bad he is just realizing this!

Connecticut Dems Greet Pelosi Amid Jew-Bashers at Fundraiser

The 59th Annual Jefferson Jackson Bailey Dinner was held last night in Hartford, Connecticut with special guest Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

It was a grand time... A standing ovation for failed candidate Ned Lamont, no pictures or mention of former Democratic Vice Presidential candidate and war defender Joe Lieberman, more attacks on Lieberman, and anti-Semitic remarks to the press!

It was a great evening for all involved!

Failed Far Left candidate Ned Lamont got a standing ovation from the democrats. (Connecticut Local Politics)

The Journal Inquirer noted the obvious absence of Senator Joe Lieberman:

U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman may call himself a Democrat, but anyone at the big shindig thrown Friday by the Connecticut Democrats who denied him their nomination last summer would be hard pressed to go along with the senator.

As hundreds took their seats at the 59th Annual Jefferson Jackson Bailey Dinner in Hartford - the state Democratic Party's largest fundraising event of the year which featured an address by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi - two giant video screens flashed candid pictures of prominent party leaders who hold federal, state, and municipal offices.

The pictorial roll call also featured shots of several Democratic candidates who lost their races in the last election, including Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont, who upset Lieberman in the party primary but lost the general election when the senator ran as an independent candidate.

There were, however, no pictures of the state's junior senator and former vice presidential candidate, a development one wag compared to his being "disappeared" from the likes of the annual Politburo photos published by the former Soviet Union.

Lieberman, who did not attend the fundraising dinner because of his customary observance of the Jewish Sabbath, also was notably absent from the long list of party leaders cited in Democratic State Chairman Nancy DiNardo's welcoming remarks.

That roster began with former Gov. William A. O'Neill, who also was not in attendance, ran through each of the state's constitutional officers, legislative leaders, and current and former members of Congress, and even included Lamont, whose mention was greeted with a standing ovation and loud cheers.

Meanwhile, Democrats who can usually be counted on to deliver pithy remarks on practically anything proved especially reluctant to make on-the-record comments about Lieberman.

There were, however, several private and consternation-laden conversations about how Lieberman, a fervent supporter of the war in Iraq, had just scolded Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid for saying that the war has been "lost."
Many of the democrats were bothered that Joe Lieberman was even mentioned on the program:

Some in the crowd, who sported Lamont political buttons, privately complained about how Lieberman's name appeared in the program for the fundraiser as a "special guest."
But, student Matt McLaughlin had the most memorabel line to the press, via the Connecticut Post:

Matt McLaughlin, a 22-year-old college student from Glastonbury, said Democrats should be more vehemently against the war. "If they didn't pass a bill authorizing more money, our troops would be out of there within a month," he said. "The problem is all the vested interests in Washington like the energy lobby and the Israel lobby."
That's right...
It's all the JEWS fault!

Nice dinner guys!

The democrats seem to be having problems with those "a** kissing" Isralis lately.

Haditha Prosecutors Admit Their Case Is Weak

The Haditha case may be falling apart.

HotAir is also following the case.

Iraqi Marsh Arabs Take Over Security in Maysan Province

British forces turned over security operations this week in Maysan Province, the home of the Marsh Arabs.

Haider Ajina sends more information on Maysan Province in Iraq. This southern province took over security operations this week from the British forces. This is also the home of the Iraqi Marsh Arabs, a group that was brutally assaulted by the Hussein regime.

Starting shortly after the end of the Gulf war in 1991, Marsh Arabs have been singled out for even more direct assault: mass arrests, enforced "disappearances," torture, and execution of political opponents have been accompanied by ecologically catastrophic drainage of the marshlands and the large-scale and systematic forcible transfer of part of the local population.

The repression against the Marsh Arabs since 1988 has been motivated by a combination of factors. In addition to the fact that Marsh Arabs are Shi'a, Iraqi authorities have targeted them because the remote terrain of the marshlands provided refuge for political

opponents of the regime and because, in 1991, Marsh Arabs themselves took part in rebellion against the Baghdad government. The marshlands also contain great wealth: they are today recognized as the site of some the richest oil deposits in the country.
But, those days area over...
This week Maysan Province took over responsibility for its own security.

And... Iraqi-American Haider Ajina sends the following translation of a press release from the Iraqi Prime Minster’s office via his website.
Obviously, this was not something that was such a big concern during the Hussein era:

Iraqi PM (Al-Maliki) forms a special committee to investigate the conditions and process of prisoner and detainees.

The Iraqi Prime Minister (PM) announced that he has formed a special committee to investigate the affaires of those imprisoned, detained and arrested in Iraqi jails and facilities of the Multi national forces (MNF). He also requested that the judiciary review all the files of those arrested or detained but not charged, and to either charge them so they may have their day in court, or release them.

In the same press conference the PM announced that, during the weekly session of his cabinet, he has apportioned 25 million dollars to assist displaced Iraqis outside the country. We will open offices in all the countries with a large Iraqi population. These offices will distribute help to those who need it. I ask the international community to help with providing humanitarian assistance to these displaced Iraqis in need.

The PM added that he has formed another special committee from the Ministries of Industry, Development and Housing. This committee is chaired by the office of the deputy PM and is charged with rebuilding the Sarrafiah Bridge, redesigned and rebuilding of Mutenabi Street and to allocate funds for these projects.

Security progress in Iraq since 2006. (Department of Defense)

Haider Ajina comments on this and the transfer of power in Maysan this week:

Another province is turned over to full Iraqi provincial control. This makes the fourth provinces in eight months to take over full control of its area.

In September Muthanna province received its full responsibility. This is a province of 32,150 sq mi and a population of little over half a million.

In December Nejaf (Najaf) province received full responsibility of its affairs. Nejaf is a province of 11,129 sq mi and a population of almost 1 million.

Also in December Dhi Qar province received its full provincial responsibilities of its territory. Dhi Qar is a province of 4980.7 sq mi and a population of 1.5 million.

(Marsh Arabs)
Now in April Missan (Mayssan-Maysan) province receives its full provincial responsibility for its territory. Missan is a province of 6205 sq mi and a population of approximately half a million. Most of the population of Missan province are ‘Marsh Arabs’. These people were displaced when Saddam dried up the marshes. Then chased the Marsh Arabs out of their area (in which they have lived for over 5000 years) after the failed uprising in the early nineties after the Kuwait war.

This was one of the world’s worst environmental disasters. Since the liberation of Iraq the marshes have been restored to over 85% of their former glory. Many of the Marsh Arabs have and are returning to their lands. These Marsh Arabs live a lifestyle little changed since Iraq’s ancient history. Many academics theories that the Marsh Arabs are the descendents of the original Sumerians.

The provinces now under full Iraqi provincial control come to a total of 14% of the Iraqi population and 32% of Iraq’s territory. Iraq is a country the size of California and a population of about 25 million.
For the article from the PM's website:

The Iraqi PM announces the formation of a committee to investigate the condition of those detained. This is (I believe) the first such action by any leader in the Arab world.

In most Arab governments once one is arrested or abducted by the security forces, especially for political reasons, they tend to either disappear or show up many years later with no one knowing what has happened to them.

Here we have a government executive setting up an oversight and investigative committee, to assure fair treatment of prisoners and detainees, and making sure that due process is followed for those charged. Those charged of course are innocent till proving guilty in a court of law. The concept of due process, while familiar to the people of Iraq, has eluded Iraqis in the recent history of Iraq.

What is even rarer in the recent history of Iraq is a government calling for action to reinforce and implement the concept of due process. The concept of a government serving its people, representative of its people and the rule of law which applies to every one is a concept not unique to the west. Early attempts of rule of law or the ‘commitment to the protection of the weak from being brutalized by the strong’ goes as far back as Hamurabi’s code of Law from latter half of 1700 BC. All Iraqis who go to school study this in the fifth grade and in more detail in Junior high.
Regards,
Haider Ajina

Moroccans Protest Against Islamic Terrorism In Casablanca

Several hundred protesters gathered in Casablanca on Thursday to protest against Islamic terrorism!

Police arrested a man, Youssef Mousaod, on Thursday in connection with deadly terrorist bombings earlier in the week.

The Sunday Times had more on the protest in Casablanca:

"We denounce these terrorist acts and our outrage reflects that of the entire Moroccan people across the political spectrum," Saad Eddine Othami, head of the Justice and Development party, an Islamist grouping, told AFP.

"There has to be a global fight against terrorism on the cultural, religious, social, political and security fronts," he said.

Seven suicide bombers have either been blown up in attacks or were killed between March 11 and April 10 in Casablanca, raising fears that the country was becoming a hotbed of Islamic extremism.

Some 2,000 people attended the rally, shouting slogans such as "Yes to Islam, no to the forces of evil," and "Terrorists, Morocco does not back you."

They also held banners saying: "No to terrorism, no to violence."

Another Hero... Waleed Shaalan Sacrificed Himself For Fellow Student

Graduate student Waleed Mohammed Shaalan, right, one of the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre, is seen with his wife Amira in this undated wedding photo. Shaalan, a native of the Nile Delta town of Zagazig, had gone to Virginia last year to study for a Ph.D. in civil engineering and was hit by three bullets, including one in the head, while in a classroom building, according to Egypt's state-run Middle East News Agency. (AP Photo)

The Boston Herald reported the very sad story of Egyptian hero Waleed Mohammed on Thursday.

CAIRO, Egypt - The day before the Virginia Tech massacre, graduate student Waleed Mohammed Shaalan called home to say he would visit Egypt next month. He wanted to pick up his wife and 15-month-old son and bring them back to the United States.

The family got another call two days later. The Eyptian Embassy in Washington told them Shaalan had been one of the victims of Monday’s shooting.

"I talked to him over the internet Sunday," his mother Saadiya Abdel-Mageed Ali said in a soft and anguished voice. "He asked me to move closer to the Web camera so he can see my face better. ’I want to see your face mama!’ he kept saying."

Egyptian newspapers published photographs of Shaalan’s wedding. His wife Amira, 28, is also an engineer, Al-Ahram newspaper reported. She wore an intricately decorated white gown and veil, clutching a bouquet of pink flowers. Shaalan planned to bring Amira and his son, Khaled, to Virginia in May, his parents said.

"Why was he killed? What did he do? What is his guilt? He just wanted to continue his studies and obtain a Ph.D. He wanted to be unique in his field," said Mohammad Shaalan, a retired government official. "I can only say that a man’s life is in God’s hands. Thanks be to God."

Shaalan was killed while trying to save another student in a classroom building, The New York Times [NYT] reported on its Web site Thursday, citing Randy Dymond, a civil engineering professor.

Shaalan had been badly wounded and lay beside the other student, who was unhurt and playing dead. The shooter, Cho Seung-Huim returned twice to search for signs of life.

When Cho noticed the other student, Shaalan made a move to distract him and was shot a second time, Dymond told the Times. The other student believes Shaalan purposely distracted Cho to save him, Dymond said.

Shaalan’s mother broke down when she heard Dymond’s account.

"He was trying to save someone else?" she said repeatedly.

Shaalan obtained his bachelor and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Zagaziq University. He worked at a government research center before he receiving a scholarship to study at Virginia Tech.

The Symbolism Behind Ismail Ax

Atlas looks at the symbolism behind Ismail Ax and wonders:
"Who or What Taught Ismail Ax to Kill?"

I know everyone is dismissing the glaring Ismail Ax angle of the massacre and calling the depraved murderer Cho, but it seems to me that if this savage wrote (or tattooed, still unclear) Ismail Ax on his arm, signed his suicide note Ismail Ax , sent an overnight package from A Ishmail, made sure he had no other ID on his person after he martyred himself , you can be damn sure he wanted to be remembered as Ismail Ax. Shaving his head and from what I can see in his pictures and martyr video- his body, must have added to law enforcement's suspicions which is why it so curious that they would say so early on that horrible day that "it was not tied to terrorism."

It also seems pretty obvious that law enforcement delayed releasing his name because they did not want to release "Ismail" even though that was all they had for the better part of the day and that was their very first clue . But they wouldn't release it. They waited a full day, an entire day, to release his name.
Atlas has much more on the strange clues the madman left behind.
-- I was also sent an email today that Cho's father worked in Saudi Arabia but it looks like that was back in the 1980's when Cho was a very young boy.

Dem's New Buddies Call for Killing Americans

W Zip reports...

Leading Democrat: "Israeli Leader Is an A** Kisser!"

UPDATE: Democrats Threaten Israel!
-More Below-

** Democrats are outraged that Israel had the nerve to criticize Pelosi!

After Pelosi's failed trip to Syria, democrats are blasting Israel for criticising the Speaker's massive gaffe!
Unreal!

Judith W. sent this news from the Jewish Daily Forward:

Dems Warn Olmert About Playing Politics
Despite Concilliatory Talk, Tension Remains Over Criticism of Pelosi

Washington - Israeli officials and Democratic lawmakers are working to mend fences after the fallout between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi following Pelosi’s visit to Damascus. But Democrats are still angry about what they see as Olmert’s desperate attempts to align himself with President Bush even if it means wading into American political controversies.

Since then, Olmert is said to have apologized to Pelosi, and Israel’s ambassador to Washington has praised the speaker. But some Democrats are still upset at Olmert’s actions and attribute them to his weakened political standing at home.

“It’s all politics,” said Rep. Gary Ackerman, a New York Democrat who chairs the House Subcommittee on the Middle East. When asked what led Olmert to criticize Pelosi’s trip to Damascus, Ackerman said that the Israeli premier had “kissed President Bush’s ass.”
Is this how the democrats plan on building alliances?

Amazing...
It's not that Pelosi messed up and gave the wrong message to the Syrians.
It's all Israel's fault!

Powerline has the Caroline Glick's latest article on Fighting Israel's Next War. Syria has been openly preparing for war since the last summer. And in the space of the past week alone, the Syrians twice announced their intention to attack Israel. Obviously, Israel is concerned about the democratic maneuverings in the region.

UPDATE: (11:00 PM CST) Democrats Threaten Israel!!!
Shmuel Rosner writes at Haaretz.com:

As Guttman wrote Thursday: "Israeli officials and Democratic lawmakers are working to mend fences", and the Waxman-Ackerman statement is a first sign. Sources in Washington told me today that next week, when all the Democratic Presidential hopefuls will appear before delegates to the National Jewish Democratic Council conference, we will see more of this conciliatory tone coming to fore.

However, this source said, "even as our leadership is working to calm things down, the rank and file Democrats are getting tired of these Israeli maneuvers." If Israel doesn't "get its act together" and doesn't reciprocate these pacifying moves - "if Olmert keeps doing such irresponsible things" - it will get more "difficult for Democrats who do care about Israel" to defend their position.

It almost sounded like a threat.
Umm... It was a threat!

Guess Who's Excited About Harry Reid's Comments?!!

It looks like there are a few media outlets pretty excited about Harry Reid's speech!

From Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, "The leading Arabic International Daily" (photo above)
HEADLINE:
"The Democrats Believe The War Is Lost and Bush Refuses a Deadline For Withdrawal," (Translation, "The Democrats Believe The War Is Lost and Bush Refuses a Deadline For Withdrawal")
Iran Press TV:

IRANIAN PRESS TV: “Leader of the Democratic majority in the US Congress, Harry Reid, has said the US has lost the Iraq war, and Bush's troop surge has failed… Reid's comments came a day after 200 fatalities were reported in bombings in Iraq, despite a much touted US Security Plan which the White House said sought to root out insurgency.”
Aljazeera:

"Yesterday the leader of the Democratic majority in Congress, Harry Reid, announced that he conveyed to Bush that the United States lost the war in Iraq and that the additional America forces that were sent there will not succeed in the achievement of any positive progress.”
The Tehran Times:

A top Democratic lawmaker declared on Thursday that the war in Iraq "is lost," pointing to the sustained bloodshed there even as President George W. Bush urged patience with his strategy.

"This war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week," Senate Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters, referring to the U.S.-led security push in Baghdad.
The Volokh Conspiracy discusses the reverberations of Reid's surrender.

American Speculator has more on the "Vulgarization of Criticism".

Harry Reid: "Democrats Want to Win... But We Lost"

Huh?

After his historically shameful and outrageous remarks from yesterday...

...Harry Reid spins pure nonsense today.
Put down the coffee!
FOX News reports:

Reid, D-Nev., fired back at Bush, saying "no one wants us to succeed in Iraq more than Democrats."

...Lawmakers responded to Reid's comments, saying the nation cannot give up the fight in Iraq or it will face terrorists on American soil.

"Majority Leader Reid's willingness to withdraw and declare defeat — in the face of horrific acts of terrorism — would be a mistake for the ages," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., in a statement.

Republican White House hopeful Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., said Reid should be held responsible for the deaths of all American soldiers in Iraq, calling his comments "reckless" and "brash."
Of course... Since the war began in 2003 after a Congress led by Democrats voted to give power to the president to wage war on Saddam, the democrats have not offered a single alternative strategy besides "retreat"!

Hero & Holocaust Survivor Liviu Libresco Is Laid to Rest

The hero professor from Virginia Tech was laid to rest at a service in Israel today.

Liviu died while saving the lives of his students at Norris Hall on Monday.
"On the day of remembrance, this Holocaust survivor gave his own life so others may live," President Bush said on Thursday.

Present were a representative of the US embassy and an envoy of the Romanian president, who presented his widow and two sons the Star of Romania medal in recognition of his courage and contribution to science. He was also honored for bravery by President Bush and the college heads.

Allison Kaplan Sommer was also at the funeral and has a very moving account of Liviu's funeral.

Jules Crittenden has the beautiful eulogy by Liviu's son.

Newsday had this eyewitness account of the hero's story:

Theresa Walsh was one of the last people to see Liviu Librescu alive.

"He looked horrified, almost as if he knew what was going to happen," said the Virginia Tech senior math major, who had stepped into the hallway from a second-floor classroom across from his at Virginia Tech's Norris Hall when she heard what turned out to be gunshots. "But he kept all the students behind him so they could get out."

"He's a frail man, 75 or 76 years old, who barricaded the door so his students could escape," said Ishwar Puri, chairman of the Engineering Science and Mechanics department, where Librescu was a professor.

Walsh said she saw that a lone gunman, later identified as Seung-Hui Cho, had emerged from a classroom next to the one in which Librescu taught and was moving toward him. She said Librescu was peering into the hallway at that moment, keeping his body between the gunman and his students.

Walsh said her sudden appearance in the hallway seemed to distract the gunman, who turned toward her, raised a handgun and began firing.

She said she dove back into her classroom, just as a bullet slammed into the wall next to the door. She was uninjured.

She and her classmates then barricaded themselves in, pinning a table against the door and holding onto its legs while lying on their bellies.

"After he missed, he shot through the door twice, but missed because everyone was on their stomach," said Walsh of Binghamton, N.Y. "Then he went on to the next room. You could hear shot after shot - bang, bang, bang, bang. You could hear people screaming. "

Librescu was hit at least five times and died on the classroom floor, according to Edgar Gluck, a Brooklyn rabbi who flew to Virginia to help with the ritual preparation of Librescu's body for burial.

Iranian Student Protesters Threaten Regime!... Female Students Protest in Tehran!

The BBC Persian is now covering the student protests in Mazandaran Province.

** Kamangir has the latest news on the Iranian student protests in Mazandaran Province.

Iranian student protesters set up a blog a couple of days ago to communicate their courageous stand against the Iranian Regime.
The blog is already getting record traffic as the word spreads about the student's efforts against the brutal regime...

This is cool...

The blog is even getting traffic from the USA which is terrific!

But, about those threats to the regime...
Kamangir reports that this was posted on one of the websites:

The hidden organization:

Release Mr Bijan Sabbagh [one of the student’s arrested by the authorities]
The north committee is impatiently waiting for the release of other arrested students. In case they are not released, or any other event happens to the captured students, the north committee will start its military and guerrilla operation.

The [swear] prosecutor and the [swear] governor and their [swear] families must be ready for death.

We will start the terror and we will detonate the bombs.
The Hidden Guerrilla.
Now, maybe this is not fair to say that this is a student making this threat, but it is posted on a student protest website. The "Hidden Guerrilla" previously threatened to destroy the headquarters of blogfa by bomb according to Kamangir.

Winston has more on the grwoing discontent.

Stay tuned...

NCR-Iran is reporting that several of the students have started a hunger strike.

Student protesters gather at Babol University in northern Iran this week. (eteraz blog)

Meanwhile in Tehran...
700 female students staged a protest against the regime's new veil regulations Thursday:

Tehran, 19 April (AKI) - Female students at Tehran Polytechnic University, where students protested against Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during a visit last December crying 'dictator go away' and throwing firecrackers, are staging a major protest against new regulations enabling police as of 21 April to arrest women who do not abide by the Islamic dress code. A group of 700 female students organized a rally on campus and signed a letter to the dean calling the new rules "an offence to the dignity of women" and accusing him of "wanting to extend to academia the sexual apartheid imposed by the government on Iranian society."

Authorities immediately reacted on Thursday withdrawing the students' university ID cards which are mandatory to access campus and classes.

The students will now have to face a disciplinary commission which will decide whether they will be allowed to continue their studies or be expelled.

Shhhh... Iraqis Take Over Operations in Maysan Province

Shhhh... Don't let anyone know, but in Iraq Multi-National Forces just transitioned power to the Iraqi forces in another province on Thursday.

It is interesting... That this happened the same day that democratic leader Harry Reid said, "The war is lost."

Do you suppose Harry Reid was aware of this before he made his shameful statements yesterday to the liberal media?
And, wouldn't it be nice if the media reported the progress in Iraq once in a while?

The above diagram from the Department of Defense shows the progress made in Iraq in just the last year.

So, why is it that this is not making any headlines today?
