The Difference Between Dems & Republicans- Maverick Edition

** Democratic "mavericks" are viciously attacked, harassed, called a nazi, stalked and disowned by the party:

Former Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Lieberman was painted in blackface after going against his party and staunchly supporting the War on Terror.

This democratic maverick was later forced to run as an independent after the party withdrew their support because of his bold stands on national security.

This week the liberal maverick was further stripped of his democratic "superdelegate" status.

The liberal St. Louis Post Dispatch this week even claimed that maverick Senator Lieberman was a Republican-- Joe Lieberman is a Democrat who ran as an Independent candidate in Connecticut after losing the primary to the Far Left of the Democratic party. Joe Lieberman has never been a Republican and has a higher liberal voting record than Senator McCain's conservative voting record.

** Republicans nominate their mavericks for president.

Ace of Spades has the scoop on the maverick Republican.

UPDATE: Right Wing Nuthouse posted a copy of McCain's exected CPAC speech today.

Until the drive bys die, and from the looks of things the pace is quickening, this is how it will be. If you look into the newsrooms across America, you find a whole lot of empty -- Yes I have a fried who is on the publishing business, newspaper, conservative, and ad supported free. His formulaic is designed as the new reality -- news is free, ads are where it's at, you just need to get the ads in front of the most eyeballs. BTW, all their ads appear online as well, for maximum hit, google shows the way.

So wait - you're trying to claim that the far-right *hasn't* attacked John McCain? This is very specious reasoning.

What, the republicans don't have interparty runoffs for senate seats? At the end of the day, his democratic base did not believe in him or his record any more and he had to rely on rethugs support to get him elected.

Lieberman is a sleezy turncoat.

Not only did Lieberman support Bush's failed Iraq policy but he also publically berated Democrats who didn't agree with Bush's Iraq policy.

First of all you didn't mention that lost the Democratic primaries in 2006 and instead of bowing out gracefully he added an 'Independent Democrat' whatever the hell that is supposed to mean and relied on Republicans to retain his seat.

Shorter GP: I don't understand why Democrats aren't happy when other Democrats go back on their campaign promises (he made during the Lamont fight) to get another Democrat in the WH and instead support Republicans. That should thrill them. *pout*

Feingold is a Maverick for bucking Harry Reid. Lieberman is a Republican. Big difference.

By the way, the party didn't strip him of anything. The rule was changed a few years ago. He knew that when he endorsed McCain.

Pretending otherwise is a bit silly.

Agree with Leiberman or don't, he was doing what he believed in. That doesn't make him a turncoat. He didn't agree with his former party so he left it.
But since he wasn't elected as a Democrat and remained in office by defeating the Democratic candidate he doesn't really have a right to a vote in the Democratic party nominating convention, does he?

Lieberman is an old fool, just like all Warpublicans.

Moving forward with clarity, honor, and justice requires that Baghdad Bush, Darth Cheney, and all others who supported our slaughter of half a million Iraqis for their oil, torture in the thousands, and the displacement of millions, must be punished or at least shamed.

J. Lieberman was the last of the
JFK 'party no more' Democrats..

"We have all made mistakes. But Dante tells us that divine justice weighs the sins of the cold-blooded and the sins of the warm-hearted on different scales. Better the occasional faults of a party living in the spirit of charity than the consistent omissions of a party frozen in the ice of its own indifference."

- John F. Kennedy, 1960

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

- JFK Inaugural address, January 20, 1961.

"There will always be dissident voices heard in the land, expressing opposition without alternatives, finding fault but never favor, perceiving gloom on every side and seeking influence without responsibility.

- John F. Kennedy, Speech for Dallas Texas, 11-22-1963 but never delivered.

I am thoroughly indoctrinated, e-metered, and cleansed of my contaminated ideas, so I’m fit to comment. My question is: Where do I get the double knit, bell bottom uniforms.

Needless to say, I’m so overly thrilled and knocked out about last week and the inevitable un-election of some of the more notorious egg sucking dogs that are (were) currently occupying seats in the hallowed halls of Congress. Haven’t felt that great since I managed to successfully evade a sobriety check point and ditch the cops whilst embraced in the cellular congress with any number of psychotropic substances. And with the news that the Demos are taking over, I guess all of you Republican fiends are going to have to put your Nazi armbands back in the drawer until the next time America succumbs to mass stupidity. I can’t really get my cut-and-runner type mind around how fucking great it is that the Demos are going to stomp inbred conservative mouth-breather ass. Probably as great as I felt when Rummy got packed off to some Defense Department related circle jerk commonly referred to as a corporation. I suppose as everything closes in on chimp boy, he’ll start cutting loose all his scumbag buddies, similar to what Tricky Dickhead did. I imagine he’ll come on the T.V. and say that ole bend-over Bob isn’t in that great of health and that as Americans, we (that obviously doesn’t include those that were killed in Iraq) all should thank whatever loser he rescued off the local skid row for all those years of great service for this country. And so it will go until there’s nobody left to take the rap, at which point one of daddy’s lawyer friends will attempt to keep chimp boy out of jail. But fuck that, let’s all get our party hats and special “favors” in hand for the upcoming “Up Yours GOP” yearlong celebration that is the upcoming election. I mean, just listening to right-wing talk radio on the way to work is more entertaining than I thought it could ever be. You know the end is near when even Rush is attempting to heft his bloated rotting carcass toward an exit.

Obviously being a “Maverick” in the Republican party and criticizing all manner of Republican ideas is a good thing now. Therefore since McCain represents the “Establishment Republican Party” now as the prospective nominee, I hereby proclaim my goal of following in the footsteps of McCain, and unrelentingly criticizing any and all policy decisions and announcements he makes. Sauce for the Goose, Mr. McCain…

The republic party was just peachy to Jim Jeffords. Remember how they treated him when he left their party in the early days of the bush regine? Lieberman is scum and I can't wait till the senate majority for the dems is large enough (after this coming nov) to strip him of all his committee seats. Instant karma coming soon to holy-joe.

So the Republicans are the "maverick-friendly" party?

Why do all the Republicans vote in lockstep? All those "maverick" Republicans just happen to agree with the party leadership all the time?

Leaving the party to run against the party nominee isn't being a "maverick," it's desertion.

Good Grief - Since Lieberman is supporting McCain for President why should the Democrats allow him to vote on a Democratic candidate? Don't you think the Democrats have a legitimate conflict of interest beef with Lieberman?

I don't even know what to say about this one... you guys will write any stream of conciousness crap won't you? Lie-berman deserves what he gets... he's likely out the door when he comes up for re-election anyway. i doubt the voters he fooled into supporting him are to thrilled with his recent bouts of "step-n-fetch-it" for Bush and McCain.

flashback: HT : Pajamas Media

Senator Joseph Lieberman, Independent Democrat

excerpt:

[“The fastest growing political party in America is no party, which is to say, that the fastest growing group of voters are unaffiliated with either party. That’s a market statement on the two major parties.” — Senator Joseph Lieberman. On September 27, Senator Joseph Lieberman sat down with PajamasMedia CEO Roger L. Simon in Washington, DC to talk about the political atmosphere of America, Lieberman’s quest for re-election, and what it is likely to be the front-running political hybrid in the 2006 race.]
