Barack Obama: My Grandmother Is the "Typical White Person"

Typical White Person???
Michelle Malkin reported on rumors of an outrageous exchange Barack Obama had with the WIP AM 610 Sports Radio hosts in Philadelphia.

Here is the proof.
Via Via Breitbart.tv and Ian Schwartz and HotAir:

Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, a bank vice president, and grandfather, Stanley Dunham, a salesman, lived in a two-bedroom apartment in downtown Honolulu and helped raise their grandson Barack until he graduated from high school. Barack rarely talks about his grandmother. She is in poor health and still lives in the same Hawaii apartment he grew up in. (Washington Post)

Philly Gossip caught the exchange.
Philly.com has a report on the interview:

They zeroed in on comments he made about his white grandmother and her racial phobias.

"The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity," he said. "But she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know. . .there's a reaction in her that doesn't go away and it comes out in the wrong way."
Wrong!
The point he was making was that his grandmother did harbor racial animosity and he then equated her with the anti-American racist Rev. Jeremiah Wright!

He threw his ailing grandmother under the bus.

It looks like he threw her under the bus again...
And this time he threw "white people" under the bus with her.
He truly was hanging with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright too long.

Could you even imagine if any white person would have said--
"But she is a typical black person"?

More... Does that make Jesse Jackson the typical white person?

Still More... Steve Sailor reported on how Obama described the incident with his grandmother and a bum (who was black) in his book:

'He was very aggressive, Barry. Very aggressive. I gave him a dollar and he kept asking. If the bus hadn't come, I think he might have hit me over the head."
This is a far cry from how he is describing the incident with his grandmother today.
He is just using his ailing grandmother to score political points.
Sick.

UPDATE: Powerline has more on this major gaffe.

How sad the quest for "authentic blackness" must be. I can't imagine that Obama is not smart enough to realize that he is betraying the people who loved him, cared for him, and wanted him when the "authentically black" part of his family abandoned him to the winds of fate.

He has this grandmother to thank for his success in life, and he is willing to stab her in the back while she is an old, sick, woman? What kind of a president would such a moral defective make? How will he deal with those of us who displease him if he will gleefully sully the reputation and disparage the character of his own grandmother, simply because she is a white woman?

Obama isn't smart enough to be a good liar, but even so, black and white folk are explaining away everything that would have finished off a white candidate - pronto. Gee, even an obnoxious laugh finished a white man off when he was running for election, one or two elections back.

"What I'm trying to tell you is, your grandma's right to be scared. She's at least as right as Stanley is. She understands that black people have a reason to hate. That's just how it is. For your sake, I wish it were otherwise. But it's not. So you might as well get used to it." from Steve Sailor's link at GP's

This fella states that "She understands that black people have a reason to hate." Really, I've never thought that in my entire life, that is just a bloody excuse. Do black people actually believe that all white folk should be found guilty according to the sins of other white folk in the past or present? For how long do the following generations of white folk have to carry this burden of guilt......until all black folk get their crap together and finally consider they can be proud of America because they rule over white people or are richer than white people or what? White men fought each other and died so black people could have their freedom, and even this doesn't seem to mean anything to the black people of today in America, so really, if this doesn't, nothing will.

It's a good thing the black people, I think I know, aren't this un-Christian.

Forget the grandmother, I think the bigger issue here is actually what he said. Let's reverse some roles here. Let Hillary Clinton or John McCain make a comment about a "typical black person" and what the poo-poo hit the fan.

Sure, the fact that he's willing to compare his grandmother to his racist pastor say's a lot about Obama as a person, but his "typical white person" comment just shows his speech Tuesday was nothing more than an attempt to save his canidacy not about improving race relations.

"we do have race issues in this country on all sides, and the more we blame the other for having the audacity to mention it"

First of all the year 2008, not 1968.

Secondly, since Obama was a baby we have been mentioning racism, as well as, sexism and classism; so much so that Leftists have imposed hate speech laws to enforce groupthink.

Lastly, the only time I hear the 'n-word' these days is when I'm listening to rap music.

Did anyone ask Obama when he asked his grandmother's permission to mention her?

Anyway, if you seriously don't know that the "typical white person" of that generation had a lot of beliefs that are now un-PC about race and gender and stuff, you haven't met many people of that generation. Beliefs and standards change, and you cut older people some slack, whether they're white or black.

First of all the year 2008, not 1968.

And you really think we've solved racism in 40 years? Or 50 since Brown v. Board of Education?

I know you really, really want to believe that everything would be cool now if only black people would shape up and stop complaining, but it took almost 100 years of America to get rid of slavery, another 100 years to get rid of legalized segregation. We're not going to get rid of systemic racism in only 40 years.

A post from Pajamas Media that hits the nail on the head.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."-Martin Luther King, Jr.

I was brought up to do what MLK said-to judge people by their character. I find Barak Obama's character to be highly deficient.

He can certainly give eloquent speeches that are full of catchy phrases but the more I see and learn about the man and of his positions on the issues the more I think that he would be a disaster as a president. He is a racist, a Marxist, an active supporter of Islamofascism and a person who loathes the United States. His policies read more like Soviet five year plans then anything else. His ideas on how things "should be" are Orwellian-complete with the "two minute hate". His "foreign policy" scares even the leftists in Europe and has diplomats admitting in private that if Obama becomes president they know they will soon be wishing for the "good old days" when George W. Bush was president.

Another thing I find highly disturbing is "the company he keeps". It reads like a who's who of anti American transnationalists, anarchists, old '60 radicals from the Weathermen, SDS and race warriors like Jeremiah Wright and the Black Panthers.

No, I will not vote for Barak Obama anymore then I would vote for David Duke. You see, it isn't the color of their skin but the content of their characters that is the deciding factor here. Sorry if some of you do not like the fact that I will not turn a blind eye to the content of Barak Obama's character and vote for him based on his skin color.

Why do most of the excerpts of this ridiculous statement of Obama's leave out that he STARTED TO SAY that his grandmother's reaction, as a "typical white person," is "bred into" her? He seems to have realized what he was about to say and changed it to "bred into (pause) OUR EXPERIENCES." Pretty illustrative of his TRUE attitudes about "white" people.

Obama blew it-an opinion column by Michael Meyers. Michael Meyers is executive director of the New York Civil Rights Coalition and a former assistant national director of the NAACP.

He should have presented us a pathway out of our racial boxes and a road map for new thinking about race. He should have depicted his minister, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., as a symbol of the dysfunctional angry men who are stuck in the past and who must yield to a new generation of color-blind, hopeful Americans and to a new global economy in which we will look on our neighbors' skin color no differently than how we look on their eye color.

In fact, I'd say that considering the nation's undivided attention to this all-important speech, which gave him an unrivaled opportunity to lift us out of racial and racist thinking, Obama blew it.

I waited in vain for our hybrid presidential candidate to speak the simple truth that there is no such thing as "race," that we all belong to the same race -- the human race. I waited for him to mesmerize us with a singular and focused appeal to hold all candidates to the same standards no matter their race or their sex or their age. But instead Obama gave us a full measure of racial rhetoric about how some of us with an "untrained ear" -- meaning whites and Asians and Latinos -- don't understand and can't relate to the so-called black experience.

............................

I expected Obama, who up to now had been steering a perfect course away from the racial boxes of the past, to challenge racial labels and so-called black experiences. We're all mixed up, and if we haven't yet been by the process of miscegenation, trans-racial adoptions and interracial marriage, we sure ought to get used to how things will be in short order.

That would have been the forward-looking message of a visionary candidate. But Obama erred by looking backward -- as far back as slavery. What does slavery have to do with the price of milk at the grocery store? He referenced continuing segregation, especially segregated public schools, but stopped short. What is he going to do about them? How does he feel about public schools for black boys or single-sex public schools and classes? What does the gospel according to Wright say about such race-based and gender-specific schemes for getting around our civil rights laws?

We can't be united as a nation if we continue to think racially and give credence to racial experiences and differences based on ethnicity, past victim status and stereotypical categories. All of these prejudices surrounding tribe-against-tribe are old-hat and dysfunctional -- especially the rants of ministers, of whatever skin color or religion, who appeal to our base prejudices and to superstitions about our supposed racial differences. The man or woman who talks plainly about our commonality as a race of human beings, about our future as one nation indivisible, rather than about our discredited and disunited past, is, I predict, likely to finish ahead of the pack and do us a great public service.

The real problem here is that Obama is preaching to everyone about their racist views and thier acceptance of the status quo, the answer he should be giving is accountability of all people. If government is going to rule over peoples lives then make the process work and stop letting killers go free, stop letting parents abandon kids, stop letting schools brainwash kids.

I don't know anyone that is proposing racism, but I know plenty of people supporting accountability. People living like idiots is not the best future for this country. And Obamas speech about how we are to blame unless we get on the bandwagon is crap, the bandwagon is the problem. Give people the access to tools and stay out of the way and then real progress will be made by all people together.

The great irony of Obama's speech, in my mind, is that this uber-ambitious "throw grandma under the bus," say anything to get elected politician has set back, either by design or just plain ignorance, race relations in this country by years if not decades. At least I could see through the deviant transparency of up-front, obvious race baiters, Jesse and Al...but Obama is a stealth racist, as his remark today shows. I really never knew that my black neighbors/friends were going all happy clappy listening to this hateful crap while I was at Mass hearing my dear priest spread the message of how we are ALL children of a loving God...and how we need to follow His example...to extend a loving hand to everyone, even our enemies. another profoundly insightful analysis..

Obama's Squandered Chance at Post-Racialism

excerpt:

[He was more eloquent than most, and less overtly divisive than other black leaders would have been, but the message was the same. Black people are angry because they were mistreated, and hateful people like Rev. Wright are only guilty of not understanding that the country can change, and has changed. Obama gives Wright a pass on perpetuating the pernicious notion that the Man is keeping his parishioners down, despite the fact that one of those parishioners is quite conspicuously running for President of the United States of America and winning.

The truth is that the firm belief of preachers and leaders like Wright in the perpetual victimhood of the black community, the sheer audacity of their hopelessness, has arguably done more to injure the black community over the past 20 years than many other things, including white racism. How many young black men, pray tell, has the good Reverend convinced that the American dream is irredeemably corrupted by white racism, and therefore not worth pursuing?

The ability to rise above all that racial resentment cannot be achieved by one politician taking the high road and covering over the sins of those who divided before him. If Obama were serious about post-racialism, he would have spent many of his words today castigating men like Wright, who preach the very division he wishes to rise above.]

i love it when people like Mr. Meyers, or a Mary Katharine Ham and so many others can put my thoughts (others as well) into words..

But she is a typical white person WHO IF she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know, there's a reaction that's been bred into our experiences that don't go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way. And that's just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it. And what makes me optimistic is you see each generation feeling a little bit less like that, and that's pretty powerful stuff."

RezkoWatch Guest: Pundita: Obama's race speech is knowledge

excerpt:

[Whatever you may think of the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright's speeches, he's not as Barack Obama portrayed him; he's not a relic of the past and he's not a cranky old man who sometimes pops out with outrageous statements. He's a torch bearer for black liberation theology, and everything he says at the pulpit is true to that belief system. So the least that Obama could have done for a man who gave him great help over many years was stand up and say that.

The least Obama could have done for the church he's belonged to for almost 20 years, and which gained him entree into many segments of Chicago society, was acknowledge that it was built by the faith of people who believe in Black Liberation Theology. Instead, he cheapened their faith in the eyes of the world by portraying them merely as angry blacks.

I can't recall whether it was Wright or someone else who characterized Obama as Jesus being persecuted by the Romans. Yet once you understand how many people and principles Obama betrayed in his "race" speech, someone associated with Jesus immediately comes to mind as the right characterization for him.

But here we come to a snag. It might be closer to the truth to call black liberation theology an offshoot of Christianity, depending on your interpretation of Christian theology. In any event, it's not the Christianity taught by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. Dan Riehl of Riehl World View and Rob at Say Anything were not caught napping by Barack Obama's speech. They noted it was very unlikely that Dr. King would have supported the doctrine preached by Dr. Jeremiah Wright.

And it's beyond question that the doctrine challenges the message of equality and integration preached by Dr. King, which formed the basis of the civil rights movement he led.

Thus the mercilessly observant Spengler, who is also somewhat of an expert on Christian theology, peered down from his lofty perch at the Asia Times and announced that Barack Obama had talked himself into quite a pickle.]

[1991: A Hasidic Jewish driver in Brooklyn's Crown Heights section accidentally kills Gavin Cato, a 7-year-old black child, and antisemitic riots erupt. Sharpton races to pour gasoline on the fire. At Gavin's funeral he rails against the "diamond merchants" -- code for Jews -- with "the blood of innocent babies" on their hands. He mobilizes hundreds of demonstrators to march through the Jewish neighborhood, chanting, "No justice, no peace." A rabbinical student, Yankel Rosenbaum, is surrounded by a mob shouting "Kill the Jews!" and stabbed to death.

1995: When the United House of Prayer, a large black landlord in Harlem, raises the rent on Freddy's Fashion Mart, Freddy's white Jewish owner is forced to raise the rent on his subtenant, a black-owned music store. A landlord-tenant dispute ensues; Sharpton uses it to incite racial hatred. "We will not stand by," he warns malignantly, "and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business." Sharpton's National Action Network sets up picket lines; customers going into Freddy's are spat on and cursed as "traitors" and "Uncle Toms." Some protesters shout, "Burn down the Jew store!" and simulate striking a match. "We're going to see that this cracker suffers," says Sharpton's colleague Morris Powell. On Dec. 8, one of the protesters bursts into Freddy's, shoots four employees point-blank, then sets the store on fire. Seven employees die in the inferno.

If Sharpton were a white skinhead, he would be a political leper, spurned everywhere but the fringe. But far from being spurned, he is shown much deference. Democrats embrace him. Politicians court him. And journalists report on his comings and goings while politely sidestepping his career as a hatemongering racial hustler.]

It is astounding to see how unfairly and viciously some radio and TV commentators are reacting to Barack Obama’s speech on race. It is simply inexcusable to say, as they do, that Obama “threw his own [white] grandmother under the bus.”

Rather, contrary to what everyone expected, he didn't throw ANYONE under the bus, neither his regrettably hate-filled pastor, nor his own partially prejudiced grandmother who herself admitted that she sometimes struggled with such feelings (as Obama makes clear in his book, "Dreams of My Father"). He didn't throw racially resentful blue collar workers under the bus, nor did he throw angry unemployed black radicals, nor you or me under the bus.

Instead, he pointed out that we are all part of this wonderful but in some ways still flawed America , and that there are legitimate reasons for some of the hurtful black and white anger that divides us -- anger which, nonetheless, we should all strive to overcome.

Never since Lincoln has a politician spoken to our nation with greater candor, dignity, and truthfulness. Obama stands tall above all the carping talk show hosts and Fox News commentators who -- resentful at being confronted by a person so utterly sincere, honest and, quite simply, good -- try in vain to pick him to pieces.

His speech will stand the test of time because it represents something new -- not politics as usual, but something that lies at the root of all right-minded religion. I begin to wonder if America is worthy of this person of such uniqueness, stature, integrity, and amazing magnanimity.

I am a "typical white person" and Barack is 100% correct in what he said about me and every woman I have known in the Bronx, Stamford, and Greenwich Connecticut. I cried for three days on my living room couch, pregnant with the 4th of our five blond-haired children, after the assassination of JFK. After the assassination of his brother RFK, I was distraught. After the assassination of MLK, we took our five children, two in a baby carriage and walked down Main Street in Stamford to attend a funeral service for MLK. We were in an all-black church, but we were so taken with our grief and we put all our fears aside. But when it came to walking down a street alone, I like all the white women I know, would be fearful if we saw a black man in our presence. We were woman of our time. In 2008, I must say I am beginning to be color-blind. Mainly because of my own experience with so many fine black men I see personally, see in the media, in the schools, etc. So, if you have never been there, like us white woman who are in our 60s, 70s, and 80s, like Baracks, grandmother, you really do not know that Barack was speaking the truth. His grandmother has truly been a great person - then and now.

As a German, my people(along with the Japanese) have been mistreated way more recently than the Blacks have. I supposed I should be bitter and expect that everything be handed to me too. Hussein O is a "typical black person".

Oblabla is, moreover, a FAKE BLACK.

Oblabla is exploiting the black Affirmative Action boost “illegitimately”, as he’s not even technically black. 8/16 Caucasian, 7/16 Arab, 1/16 Negro, which is below the usual bar (1/8). Moreover, he was raised Indonesian and white, not ever black … so he’s pretense from A to Z.
