Chicago Columnist: "Whites Don't Get It, Blacks Do- Let's Move On"
Wright caught in undeserved political glare
Whites don't get it, blacks do -- and it's time to move on
Some people still don't get it, alright...
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mary Mitchell insists that "big-hearted" Jeremiah Wright was "undeservedly" pushed into the spotlight:
We get it. A lot of white people were offended by snippets of sermons by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.Sorry Mary, having your minister scream "G-d Damn America" may be OK with you. But to most of America cursing at the pulpit is nothing but vulgar behavior.
But frankly, critics and those who are supporting a candidate other than Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination have gotten all of the mileage they can out of this debate.
At this point, Obama has done all he can do to put this matter to rest.
...As it is, the political warfare has thrust Wright, a man with a charismatic leadership style, a big-hearted nature, and grass-roots organizing skills, into an undeserved spotlight.
Yes, undeserved.
...Abraham Lincoln once said: "To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men."
But in this case, those who have held their peace about Wright aren't cowards. They are politically astute enough to know that this battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers.
As for Obama and his wife, Michelle, this episode must have been devastating.
There are few places in this world that one can find the kind of peace(?) and camaraderie that is found among those of the same faith.
Yet at a time when Obama and his family needed it most, their sacred relationship with their church was tossed adrift by people who couldn't care less.
Like I said, we get it.
Now let's move on.
Nahanni added this:
Whenever they say "it is time to move on" you know two things.
1. They know there is no way to defend their position.
2. They arrogantly expect us to be good little sheeple and quit asking all those embarrassing questions and do as we are told.
Memo to Mary Mitchell:
You don't "get it", honey.

You know what else we're not "getting"? THIS is about to explode:

Before you wrinkle your nose at WND you had better read it. There IS a link to a published reprint of an article by a senior Hamas official originally printed in the LA Times on Reverend Wright's page in the church newsletter dated July 2007. Something really stinks here. This stuff was out in the open for anyone to read. SOMEONE needs to ask Obama about it.
She is correct. It is time to move on. And I think we should, with great enthusiasm.
Oh.... and the NEXT time a Don Imus comes along, a Trent Lott, a Geraldine Ferraro even, I look forward to responding to the caterwauling about how "offended" people are, with a rousing STFU.
Got that? All the "cherry picking" of one racial comment that ends a career and all? Guess what? That's done. Over. Finished. No more. I don't even wanna hear about it. You are offended as a black / hispanic / gay / whatever about what was said? Great. Be offended. Be offended all the live long day. Have fun with that. But your days of destroying people over it are done. Kaput. Over.
I am rabidly offended by Reverend Wright. Somehow, some way, after a decade of struggle, I presume, I will get over it.
So.... whiners.... one more time.
S-T-F-U.
No more.
That's the price.
So let's move on, by all means.

gah!! didn't see this post before i posted this in another post.. feel like i'm overdosing on Obama posts!! lol!!
RezkoWatch Guest: Pundita: Obama's race speech is knowledge
excerpt:
[After many lectures like this, Obama decided to take a second look at Wright's church. Older pastors warned him that Trinity was for "Buppies" -- black urban professionals -- and didn't have enough street cred. But Wright was a former Muslim and black nationalist who had studied at Howard and Chicago, and Trinity's guiding principles -- what the church calls the "Black Value System" -- included a "Disavowal of the Pursuit of Middleclassness.'"]
if that is true, it goes a long way in explaining
the love of Farrakhan Trumpeted by Wright..

It was evident before Reverend Wright's sermons came to light that his and Obama's church were racist, so why does Obama belong to a racist church and do Americans want a racist at the helm who can't even admit to his 'reverse' racist views when it comes to white people?
Move on, they get it? What, a black democratic/socialist candidate gets a free pass because this woman says so? The truth is these people don't get it - move on, nothing here? Holy crap, Barack and Michelle Obama have been listening to this hate-mongering Reverend Wright for 20 years, and the world is suppose to believe there is nothing but sunshine in their hearts for America - wow, can we all say 'brainwashed'.
What? Reverend Wright is an apostate - leaving Allah for the 'Black' Jesus?
My how things become so clear when the truth comes to light.
Well, I have always said Obama is no Christian, and mankind will know a Christian by his works.
You rock, bg.

I'm white and "I get it".
The "man" Obama is a product of his enviroment, just the same as everyone else, made choices on whom to associate himself with, who to take advice and counsel from....just like evryone else.
We see a much more clear picture of Mr. Obama and as a "white" American , I am rather shocked and appaled at what I see.
I never was going to vote for Mr. Obama due to his socialist views but to see how the mans views were shaped or molded when put under the microscope has been as interesting as it has been distasteful.
Lastly, for Obama...or anyone for that matter to stand up in a time of personal crisis and disassociate themselves from thier life long friends and mentors would only further create disgust in most peoples minds, A small kudos for Mr. Obama for not doing so during his speech.
There is no moving on from this "revelation" nor should pople move on from it...actions speak louder than words and as Mr. Obama himself said...."Words mean something"...to bad he didnt take his own advice years ago in his freverant quest for power in those that he associated himself with for personal gain....I "do" get it.
"Whites Don't Get It, Blacks Do- Let's Move On"
Yep, that's just the type of promoting understanding that we can expect from journalists today. I think it comes from their natural propensity to inform and to teach. Gone are the days of "Do as I say, not as I do." It's now, "Do what I tell you, because I'm your journalist dammit!" It's progress. Yeah, I can feel it.
I wonder if she would have been so fast to say, "Let's move on," if it was Bush's pastor who was a racist?
Here's the problem, black racism is not only acceptable, it is celebrated. Take the church's manifesto and replace all the words that say "black," with words that say "white." You would swear you were looking at some sort of Aryan white supremacist group manifesto.
He did loose an opportunity to talk about racial prejudices in the United States and he lost the opportunity to address those in his own community and church.
a Pastor who curses - There is something wrong with a 'man of the cloth' who curses, especially if those curse words are part of the sermon.
a politician who follows such a pastor for over 2 decades, is not a person to lead this nation.
the message Obama/Wright is preaching is that it is acceptable for a black to be racist, while it is unacceptable for a white to be racist.
It was a sacred G-d Damn.
Unlike the profane one's whitey uses.
Cornhusker,
(I was one myself in my youth - Omaha)
That is good stuff - but it is overkill. I'm Jewish and have my ear to the ground in that community. Obama has already lost a major portion of the Jewish vote. A friend called me the other day to cry about what Obama has done to the country.
What I notice that interests me is that this has not just cost Obama. Hillary's numbers are falling too.
Obama has ruined the brand.
Has Obama forsaken his family and tried to follow in his fathers footsteps, from what I read and is being put up as a strong point of Obama, was that his father abandoned him and his mother...can Obama really support the idea that white people are 'wrong' after they took him in and gave him the life to make him what he is today.
I think Obama has missed the chance to win this election right now, he's taken the path of radical Liberalism and he is generalizing all white people as closet racist which is a shortsighted view of America today.
Ivy-League-educated, privileged, six-figure-income Barack Obama and his wife Michelle belong to and generously contribute to a "church" that spews insane hatred. It's only nominally Christian. It's closer to the Nation of Islam than to Christianity.
We get it, Sister Mitchell. You hate the USA as much as "Reverend" Wright.
Obama isn't going to bridge anything. That bridge is almost completely consumed by the flames set by "Reverend" Wright, and nothing can save it.
And you and Obama are the ones who will be moving on. His presidential prospects are over and done with, as is your reputation as an honest journalist. The next black presidential candidate is going to have a MUCH harder time. He'll have to PROVE he has no such connections. Thanks to Obama. I'm sure you're grateful to him for that.
