Obama Damns America With "Original Sin" of Slavery

"Two hundred and twenty one years ago, in a hall that still stands across the street, a group of men gathered and, with these simple words, launched America’s improbable experiment in democracy. Farmers and scholars; statesmen and patriots who had traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of 1787.

The document they produced was eventually signed but ultimately unfinished. It was stained by this nation’s original sin of slavery..."

Senator Barack Obama
A More Perfect Union Speech
In Response to the filth of his minister the Rev. Jeremiah Wright
March 18, 2008

And... With those words Barack Obama condemned each and every American with the original stain of slavery.

Regardless of this nation's glorious history
Regardless of the fact that America was one of the first nations to outlaw slavery
Regardless of the fact that hundreds of thousands of Americans fought in a war to rid this nation of slavery
Regardless of the millions of people this country set free from tyranny
Regardless of the 50 million Iraqis and Afghans this country set free

You as an American-- Are born with the "stain" of slavery.
You have a hereditary stain with which you are born with on account of this nation's origin sin of slavery.

Commenter pst314 caught this from Barack's speech today:

Original sin? In other words, all white Americans are born sinful. If we suffer from original sin, then we are guilty no matter how virtuously we behave.

Furthermore, original sin can only be cleansed by divine grace. And who is the pastor who is offered to us as a holy intermediary to dispense this divine forgiveness? The hate-spewing Wright and others like him.

Yes, there is an implied promise that whites can buy forgiveness by publicly flagellating and abasing ourselves and by supporting in toto Obama's political agenda of socialism and racial reparations. But that is a false promise: Nothing whites can do will buy forgiveness, because Wright and Obama and his allies have no intention of ever letting them off the hook. Racial guilt is far too convenient, both to intimidate and extort from whites, and to manipulate blacks through endless whipping up of resentment and hate.
This line puts Obama in sync with his wife Michelle.
It shows his true beliefs...
That America is a flawed nation and has been since its birth.
No thanks, Barack.
I'd like to think of myself as more evolved than that.

UPDATE: Bad news Barack-- 30% of voters said Wright's comments made them feel very negative about Obama.

UPDATE 2: Astute Bloggers noticed he mentioned his white grandparents who raised him twice- once to dis them.

UPDATE 3: Protein Wisdom has found the cure for this awful stain of slavery!

UPDATE 4: Roger Simon is moved to poetry.

I wonder if the 360,000 Union soldiers who died to end slavery are burning somewhere with their "original sin." I'm sure Pastor Wright thinks so. What Obama is demonstrating is that, as far as many (most?) blacks in America are concerned, white Americans are eternally evil and damned and there's nothing that will ever change that. It doesn't matter what white people do or say; it doesn't matter if we're talking about a white kid who's 5 years old and doesn't know anything about anything. That kid (and every other white person) are going to be damned by Wright, Michelle and Barak Obama and their ilk forever. That's the sad, scary, nauseating truth about this scandal.

And, to atone for that "sin" all you have to do is vote for him.

Oh, and my ancestors were being persecuted in Europe while his were running around naked and free in Africa. I've got no guilt about this, at all!

And my ex-wife's ancestors fought in the civil war on the side of the North so that little piece of excrement can now have the freedom to spit in their face?! Now THAT'S "audacity!"

The Declaration of Independence WAS... WAS stained. I would have to disagree with GP's comments and most of the posters. I don't think he still thinks its stained. In fact I would argue he believes the opposite, that we have made improvements. HOWEVER.... I as a Conservative realize that the Declaration was stained... how can you dispute that?

It's like saying the moon isn't a big floating rock. Well is it cheese then?

Thanks be to God but we have had the opportunity to redeem our country. Slavery was EVIL and it was antithetical to the Declaration of Freedom(Independence). I think you can cut him some slack on the "stain" comment.

Slavery IS a sin.

So I have to wonder if he is going to repudiate his muslim grandparents?

Seeing as islam ran the slave trade for 1000 years before Europe took it over...

Ran slave the ENTIRE time Europe was unfortunately involved in it...

And STILL runs the slave trade today in a score of countries.

There aren't two score countries on the face of the Earth that didn't do slavery. And Black nations fill quite a few of those slots.

Oh and let's not forget the 3000+ BLACK slave-owners that also lived in the South.

I'm not sold by what he said today.

Yeah, let me know where I can get some race credits too. My g-g-grandfather and three g-g-granduncles (his brothers) all went South and fought in Indiana regiments. One uncle died of disease outside Atlanta and the rest of them suffered from the ravages of chronic diarrhea for the rest of their lives.

Yeah, maybe I should petition Obama to issue "retroactive race indulgences" to save the immortal souls of my ancestors. I guess that'll likely involve a hefty donation to the Obama '08 Campaign, huh?

I don't buy it. My ancesters came to this continent indentured for thier passage, worked off their indenture, toiled to build a community, took in a young black slave as payment of a debt, treated him as family, and emancipated him after the Revolutionary War. In order to emancipate him they had to vouch for his deeds for the rest of their lives as if his action were theirs. They did so. He did not let them down. As a 9 year old kid I scrounged for returnable bottles to feed the family. (pre-welfare) Worked every minute I didn't sleep, eat or study. A poor white family. Clawed an education, joined the army during Vietnam, worked my butt off and built a life. Raised and educated 3 kids and been married to the same gal for 52 years. Never asked or received a handout and only got one unemployment check ever. I'm retired now but did my part in building this awesome country and I won't stand for anyone crapping on it. So Obama can get off me on Original Sin. Obama has not and never will have enough points to judge let alone condemn me or my family.

The Obama candidacy has completed my transformation into a White Nationalist. I hope it is creating more of us in the tens of millions. Someone must wrest these ideas away from the anti-Semites and neo-nazi's, and create a real counter-movement to Obama and his movement. We have to stand up for ourselves, and for our history. No nation, white or black or otherwise has a perfect history, but I refuse to believe that this nation has acted as anything less than a shining beacon of hope for all the world. Yes, even for the slaves who found themselves here in bondage. Even through Jim Crow, and Plessy v Ferguson, this America was still a better and more moral place than any other could lay claim to have been. There is no place where the decendants of slaves could be more free or better off.

I am not going to apologise for the civilization that OUR race has created. If their race doesn't like it, perhaps they can find the non-white society they would like to live in and go live there? Where would it be, Rev. Wright? Where, Hussein Obama? Haiti? Rwanda? Zimbabwe? Somalia?

I say it is time for 40 acres and mule...somewhere else. Somewhere authentically black. You can send me the reparations bill once and for all, because I'm tired. I'm tired of thuglife. I'm tired of my government being the largest affirmative action jobs program in history. I'm tired of college programs that I couldn't qualify for because my skin was white, even though I lived on the street, hand to mouth. I'm tired of hearing the lies when we all know the truth. I'm tired of watching the man who caused Yankl Rosenbaum's brutal murder talking garbage on the TV. I'm tired of endless coverage of a fake rape case, when a REAL torture, rape, and murder case with the races reversed occurs right down the road but never appears on the national news.

I reject Barak Hussein Obama, his view of America, and all who support his views. The way for this nation to move on is to move on without them. They are a lost cause.

About this collective guilt: One branch of my family came to America in the mid-1700's, and a number of them served in volunteer regiments in the Civil War. (Note: volunteers, not draftees.)

Another branch fled the carnage of the French Revolution.

A third fled Europe in the aftermath of the failed democratic revolutions of the mid-1800's.

So, do I inherit guilt from all my ancestors? Or only those who arrived in America before the abolition of slavery? Does some sort of one-drop rule apply? Furthermore, do the anti-slavery and anti-discrimination efforts of my ancestors count against my guilt? Do I get extra credit for the ancestor who was wounded in battle and died as a result of the brutal conditions in the Confederate POW camp where he was imprisoned? Or the one who died of disease while serving in the Union Army? How about the grandfather who for many years spent a great deal of time on charitable efforts on behalf of African Americans and Native Americans? Could I get a smidgen of credit for, back in the sixties, criticizing two employers who expressesd racist opinions?

What about those of us whose ancestors arrived on these blessed shores after the Civil War ended and slavery was abolished? The wave of Irish immigrants that arrived as a result of the Potato Famine washed up here after the end of the Civil War. That's just one group of post-Civil War honky immigrants. There are plenty more if you count everyone up until today who arrived here after the end of slavery. Do we have that original sin because of our skin color, or are we exempt. And what about the Arab slave traders and their descendents?

Two historical points:

(1) The Great Famine in Ireland was in the late 1840s, about a decade before the Civil War, not after.

(2) The US was NOT one of the first countries to outlaw slavery AS A WHOLE. While some jurisdictions outlawed slavery at various times in the period 1780-1830 (some, like New York or Connecticut, surprisingly late), around the time many other nations did (British Empire ca. 1821, Danish West Indies ca. 1848, for example), the abolition as a whole didn't occur until 1865. Mark you, Brazil didn't outlaw slavery until 1888, and I believe Cuba didn't outlaw slavery until 1868. Plus slavery was practiced by Arab slavers in Africa clear up to the First World War.

"The Obama candidacy has completed my transformation into a White Nationalist."

Don't do it. White nationalism is no more honorable than black nationalism. Don't forget that people like Obama and Wright no more define Black America than David Duke defines White America. Would you turn your back on Shelby Steele, Clarence Thomas, Bill Cosby, or John McWhorter? How about Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice? I remember the grade school teacher who helped me to finally "get" mathematics, setting me on the path to a degree in physics and a successful career in engineering. There were also teachers in high school and college who I owe thanks to. I could also mention various writers and artists that I have known. Then there is the security guard in my office building and the conductor on my train, and all the other people I meet and do business with who are just ordinary decent people, doing their best to make a living and live stand-up lives. For a number of years my internist was an African-American, and the only reason is no longer is that he moved his practice. He was a good doctor who knew his profession and always took enough time to listen and explain. Or how about this man serving in Afghanistan? He has our backs and from the looks of him he's someone we can count on. How could I not honor and respect him and his service? We owe him nothing less. I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

So let's not be white nationalists or black nationalists or anything else like that. There is no legitimate place in America for that sort of politics.

Eocostello,

Arabs never stopped practicing slavery until recently. Slavery existed in Sudan(and many still have not been freed) until end of 20th century. They finally agreed to stop after "evil white American Christians" insisted upon it.

Saudi Arabia imported slave children to ride their camels in stupid races just 10 years ago. Maybe Obama needs and his "spiritual" "guide" need to point back overseas.

People are so uninformed in our nation. Hell exist in many countries around the world today. Slavery existed thru Arab slave traders thru the 20th century, including concubines - sexual slaves - homosexual slaves.

Obama-ites, wake up. You live in a fantastic country that fought to free slaves. Hundreds of thousands died for it. It should be a day of celebration of true freedom and the people who died should be honored including Abraham Lincoln.

But oooohhhhh no America, you are evil, evil, evil, according to Marxist, Communist, Liberation "Theology" and that is where the problem lays with Obama.

They do not believe in Christ. They belive in Marxism thru Religion. That is why they talk class warfare in every speech. Everyone is equal, everyone deserves the same, blah, blah.

Yet Christ never taught this did he? He never taught the poor should receive freeely all things from the government, did he? Why?

I have ancestors on both sides of the civil war. So, am I guilty or am I praised? Am I praised because some died to free slaves? Well, heck no, not from Obama. He must condemn us all. He sees only one side of the equation.

His speech was empty rhetoric and he refused to acknowledge the racism of his own pastor. But it is not surprising. He hangs with Marxist, Communist and genuinely hates this country, or he would not be attending the Church for over 20 years. But he did so, because he recognizes the "white greed."

Because we all know that blacks cannot be greedy, only whites can.

I believe he himself is a closet racist. Why else would he hang at such a place for 20 years?

So much for the white side of his family that gave him everything, while his "father of dreams" went off, left him, married to two other women. Please, do teach us Obama about your fathers black liberation theology. I think it is the kind that lives off others...

1) Move to Hawaii on evil white man money, marry a white woman
2) Get her pregnant
3) Dump her
4) Take money from evil white men
5) Go to evil white man college
6) Move back to Kenya
7) Have more children, live a corrupt life, married to three women, die in a drunken car rage
8) His most successful child is half white, raised by evil whitey, goes to evil whitey school, gets evil whitey degree, and is voted in by evil whiteys as state senator

Yep, boy the way this evil white nation is going, they may just vote your innocent angel beautiful black butt into the evil "Whitey" House.

LOL.... only in America

The historical inaccuracy of the first paragraph drives me to distraction - even Wikipedia gets it right.

The Constitutional Convention began May 25, 1787 and ended September 17, 1787 - though Barry says it ended in the spring of 1787. He also refers to people who came across the ocean at the convention - hogwash - they were men who were born in America. And, they formed a Republic, not a Democracy.

Truly sad that he couldn't look in a history book and sad that so few knew he had failed to use the facts.

HT : Valerie @ ITM

Obama Merely Changes The Subject

excerpts:

[Election '08: Rather than break ties with his demagogic, anti-American pastor, Barack Obama used a speech on race to excuse his behavior and sweep the controversy under the rug. Passing the buck is not very presidential.]

[Speaking in Philadelphia, steps away from where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were enacted, the front-runner for the Democratic nomination for president delivered an address that used the words "race" or "races" 11 times, "racial" or "racially" 15 times, and "racism" or "racist" six times.]

[The supposed divide between black and white is not the issue here; Obama's longtime association with Jeremiah Wright is.]

[The solutions? Expanded government for one, of course. But while Obama concedes that "the erosion of black families" is "a problem that welfare policies for many years may have worsened," he fails to understand what "Wealth and Poverty" author George Gilder knew back in 1981:

"What actually happened since 1964 was a vast expansion of the welfare rolls that halted in its tracks an ongoing improvement in the lives of the poor, particularly blacks, and left behind . . . a wreckage of broken lives and families worse than the aftermath of slavery."]

ost314 - each man stands on his own merit and will be judged the same. People with an intelligence do not judge all blacks according to what they see and hear in Obama's church with Reverend Wright at the helm. Apparently many black churches in the U.S. carry the same theme, but they need to be taught to love their neighbor as thyself and to cast away their hate from their hearts.

If anything, the truth being brought to light of what is being preached in some black churches, means things can now change for the better.

In response to "otter" Slavery continues today in Sudan under the MUSLIMS. There are other AFRICAN countries actively involved in slavery - slavery is nothing new to this world. It is now and always has been wrong. We can't change our past as a country. Hate speech and making excuses for the people you choose to have in your life such as his racist "pastor" reflect Barack's true character. Barack is wrong headed - his speech proved to everyone that he will say anything to get elected. His grandmother's fearful reaction to a black man was to that individual's harassment of her at a bus stop and refusal to leave her alone even after she gave him the money he wanted. I lived in Hawaii during the late 60's and early 70's - it was crime ridden with druggies and "hippies" strung out on the streets in down town Honolulu. Hers was an understandable reaction - even Jesse Jackson stated that he is relieved to turn around and see white people when he hears foot steps behind him. Racism exists within races and between them. It is unfortunate, but reparations aren't going to make up for the sins of those that were involved in the slave trade in this country. My ancestors were involved in the underground railroad - will I get some credits in heaven for that according to Barack's human soul measuring stick?

Barack is a divisive coward and has turned his back on his family - the same thing he will do to this country if elected. His grandparents took him in when his parents wouldn't take care of him and this is how he thanks them? All to justify his relationship with an openly racist pastor he chooses as his own? As Commander in Chief we should demand better decision making than this.

i just have to get this off my chest so to speak..

there are too numerous to count people out there of all backgrounds, race, etc.. who are truly working hard at trying to better things for the truly less fortunate people amongst us & around the globe.. selflessly giving of themselves with little unto themselves.. mentoring, guiding, supporting, etc.. much like those of some of the posters have mentioned in regards to their ancestors / relative's.. yet we hear not about any of these hero's in our midst..

unfortunately, we have heard way too much from & about the likes of ie: a Jesse Jackson, an Al Sharpton, or a John Hagee, as well as Jerry Falwell when he was alive.. and i cannot imagine how many more preachers (not to mention politicians) are out there echoing their messages of hate to the masses undercover of religion (and/or politics).. and albeit not on the same scale, much like the local Mullah's in their mosques, not only in foreign countries, but all across this nation.. all to one degree or another, perpetrating hatred of blacks, whites, etc.. and/or America..

then we have the lying media bastards who have their own perverted agenda.. sick, bass ackwards, ugly world is all we see..

newsflash: in America alone there are more beautiful (good), charitable, and heroic people than all the evil (ugly) selfish people in the world put together..

why is it all we consistently hear about are the latter?? and not only that, they are slowly but surely being portrayed as the good guys, the welcomed hero's & saviors of the world?? mind boggling, truly mind boggling.. *sigh*

My opinion of many who posted outrage at Obama's comment which was snipped from a speech he made and then editorialized "to fit" statements he did not and would not make, but rather put words in his mouth.
That Honest Abe expressed the same type of sentiments concerning living up to our American Ideal, and that is has been noted by many that this has been a process, by imperfect men learning from history's mistakes and accomplishments was unrepresented (here).
Instead there IMO was a lack of honesty among readers, who immediately went back in time to explain their great great ancestors fought slavery - so very long ago, yet segregation and civil rights and discrimination are matters that exist/ed in my lifetime.
I read Obama's speech. It came across to me as positive, honest, hopeful, subjective as well as American.
