Obama Defends His Racist Pastor-- Will Keep Wright On Campaign
Implod-apalooza-- Obama Campaign suffers major blow...
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review interviewed Barack Obama today, via LGF Quick Links.
Below is what Barack said about his former pastor and mentor.
But, in case you missed the cherry-pickings, here is a basket full...
THE REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT HATE SPEECH COLLECTION:
Video via The O'Reilly Factor.
It is not clear if the Obama family and their children were attending any of those services.
From the Tribune-Review:
Question: I don't know if you've seen it, but it's all over the wire today (from an ABC News story), a statement that your pastor (the Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's South Side) made in a sermon in 2003 that instead of singing "God Bless America," black people should sing a song essentially saying "God Damn America."That wasn't a very strong defense of his mentor, minister and pray leader.
Obama: I haven't seen the line. This is a pastor who is on the brink of retirement who in the past has made some controversial statements. I profoundly disagree with some of these statements.
Question: What about this particular statement?
Obama: Obviously, I disagree with that. Here is what happens when you just cherry-pick statements from a guy who had a 40-year career as a pastor. There are times when people say things that are just wrong. But I think it's important to judge me on what I've said in the past and what I believe.
Powerline says cherry-picking is not a good defense when your talking about racism.
Dan Riehl has more.
The Obama Campaign announced this afternoon that they will keep the Reverend Jeremiah Wright as "spiritual advisor" to the campaign.
Also... The brave Barack Obama will be interviewed on FOX News tonight by Major Garrett.
Is this chicken coming home to roost?
UPDATE: Obama responds to the controversy at The Huffington Post:
...Because these particular statements by Rev. Wright are so contrary to my own life and beliefs, a number of people have legitimately raised questions about the nature of my relationship with Rev. Wright and my membership in the church. Let me therefore provide some context. The Huffington Post wisely did not open comments to the nutbags on this post.
As I have written about in my books, I first joined Trinity United Church of Christ nearly twenty years ago. I knew Rev. Wright as someone who served this nation with honor as a United States Marine, as a respected biblical scholar, and as someone who taught or lectured at seminaries across the country, from Union Theological Seminary to the University of Chicago. He also led a diverse congregation that was and still is a pillar of the South Side and the entire city of Chicago. It's a congregation that does not merely preach social justice but acts it out each day, through ministries ranging from housing the homeless to reaching out to those with HIV/AIDS.
Most importantly, Rev. Wright preached the gospel of Jesus, a gospel on which I base my life. In other words, he has never been my political advisor; he's been my pastor. And the sermons I heard him preach always related to our obligation to love God and one another, to work on behalf of the poor, and to seek justice at every turn.
The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign. I made it clear at the time that I strongly condemned his comments. But because Rev. Wright was on the verge of retirement, and because of my strong links to the Trinity faith community, where I married my wife and where my daughters were baptized, I did not think it appropriate to leave the church.
Let me repeat what I've said earlier. All of the statements that have been the subject of controversy are ones that I vehemently condemn. They in no way reflect my attitudes and directly contradict my profound love for this country.
With Rev. Wright's retirement and the ascension of my new pastor, Rev. Otis Moss, III, Michelle and I look forward to continuing a relationship with a church that has done so much good. And while Rev. Wright's statements have pained and angered me, I believe that Americans will judge me not on the basis of what someone else said, but on the basis of who I am and what I believe in; on my values, judgment and experience to be President of the United States.
The AP carried the story.
It's over for Obama. OVER.
Dan Riehl says- "This won't fly."
UPDATE 2: The United Church of Christ defended the racist Jeremiah Wright's hateful comments!
In the wake of misleading attacks on its mission and ministry, Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ is being lauded by United Church of Christ leaders across the nation for the integrity of its worship, the breadth of its community involvement and the depth of its commitment to social justice.

"It goes without saying that the crowd which for the past 30 years has embraced a bunch of theocratic, flatearther, homophobic, snake-handling, anti-Catholic, anti-woman, anti-science, anti-everyone-but-white-American-evangelicals--- and whose nominee currently seeks their approval and endorsement --- has absolutely no moral standing whatseover to object to anyone else's inflammatory religious rhetoric. Ever. Period."
You're too much a whackadoodle cranially-inverted moron to ever, EVER, conduct an honest discussion of Obama's positions on the issues, Jimmy "Lying Buffoon" Hoft. That's why you've become the pathetic self-parody that you are.
Stay stupid, jackwad. You don't know how to do anything else.
Obama is suppose to be interviewed on Anderson Cooper tonight also, on this very topic - his pastor.
meatbrain - do you know anything about the Bible at all. I just read a couple of statements in your link in the first paragraph, and the Catholic Church is a pagan church. I don't have anything against the congregations, but the teachings and rituals of the Catholic Church are pagan. In the bible, homosexuality is an abomination, no one needs AIDS as proof of this if your are going by biblical literature. And the Clinton administration was evil, so what is the problem here.
As far as I know McCain was only given the support of Pastor John Hagee. Is Pastor John Hagee McCain's pastor, does he attend his church, is he his mentor, does he support Louis Farrahan (sp)?
"...the Catholic Church is a pagan church..."
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
A religious bigot lecturing someone else about religion!
PRICELESS!

hmmm, how many previous presidents mentor / preacher (for 2 decades) were anti-US / "whitey" radicals??
hmmm, how many previous presidents friends (& neighbors) are admitted anti-US terrorists??
hmmm, how many previous presidents associates were slumlord bagmen for r$ch Iraqi Saddam linked to OFF scam friends & associates who also worked together (for 2 decades)??
hmmm, how many previous presidents have genocidal, Sharia supporting, Kenyan cousins (who didn't like losing his own election)??
crickets..
==
Here's a question for you, BG. You'll prove too boneheaded gutless to even try to answer it.
How many previous presidents' religious mentor was a raging anti-Semite?
Run away, you fuddpucking coward.
Obama must really believe his cult like followers, fellow church member Oprah, the MSM and the nutroots are enough to get him elected.
They aren't.
It is the beginning of the end for the Obama campaign. This is just the first steamer trunk of Obama's dirty laundry has been opened and it is a small one. People tend to forget that Wright is not only his "pastor" but he is also a formal member of the Obama campaign. Yup, he is a member of Obama's "African American Religious Leadership Committee".
The Rezko trunk and the Kenya trunks are going to be whoppers. I would not be a bit surprised if Obama is indicted over the Rezko affair and Rezko has a very nasty connection to the UN "oil for food" scandal. This might be one instance where the LLL's will be glad we never signed on to the ICC. As far as the Kenya trunk is concerned Obama's active support of genocide, gang rape, Islamofascism and the institution of the Sharia in Kenya will be a real crowd pleaser. Especially when it is pointed out that it is his older brother and the members of Obama's tribe that are the chief instigators in this. And just wait until the general public finds out that he has been using his powers as a US Senator to assist them.
If that isn't enough there is the "Old Tyme Chicago politics" trunk in the form of the earmark "kickback" to the hospital that employs Mrs. Obama. Speaking of which she has her own trunk-her public statements fall from the same racist, anti American tree as their pastor's sermons-proof positive that the BS that Obama is trying to pedal about his "disagreeing" with his "pastor" is BS. To have a happy marriage it is not necessary for husbands and wives to share their "loves" but it is necessary for them to share their "hates".
These are just some of the big steamer trunks full of Obama's dirty laundry. There are many others.
On a side note I am finding it interesting that neither the "Rev.'s" Al or Jessie have jumped to Obama's defense yet. Neither of these men are fools otherwise they wold not have survived as long as they have.
Gateway has sure become popular with trolls in just the last week or so. What happened? I was impressed when you got the Islamofascist troll. And now you have the more common arrogant and clueless douche bag troll. Hey, it gets more people posting comments and that's good for more hits. Congratulations.

[How many previous presidents' religious

hah, like you know the answer
to your imaginary question??
however, i can tell you that Obama's (political) mentor preacher of 20 years is well known for not only praising, but honoring a fanatical raging anti-Semite..

RFW,
meathead is just the token foaming at the mouth basement dwelling member of the "reality-based community" troll here.
It does perform a valuable function, though. It is the equivalent of the Canary in the coal mine. When it stops by and screeches you know the truth is really beginning to hurt the basement dwellers in the "reality-based community". As everyone knows Trolls can not tolerate light.
Just treat it as a five year old in full screeching, foot kicking temper tantrum mode. Ignore it and eventually it will notice it is not getting the attention it so greatly craves and will scamper back into the basement.
Figures that conservatards can't tolerate any dissent in opinion. So rather than actually debate the opposite side, conservatards just resort to name-calling and ad hominem attacks.
Par for the course on these blogs.
As long as you are a mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, white hood-wearing fuckwad, you're okay. But should you point to facts or ideas that are in diametric opposition to the bullshit, you are immediately a troll.
Once you've been labeled a troll, you know you're on to something, that you've got them cornered, that they've realized the idiocy which they spew but they have nothing of value to say.
Long live the trolls!!! :-)
Joanne, McCain actively sought and courted Hagee for almost a year before this endorsement. So how is that okay but Obama openly denouncing the statements of the pastor is not okay?
http://www.rightwingwatch.org/2007/07/mccain_openly_c.html
Can you say hypocrite? I knew you could. Now go look in the mirror for a clear picture of what a hypocrite looks like.

you than any so called conservatard..
thanks for the comic relief, too funny..

all politicians pander for votes..
fact is Hagee has not been McCain's peronal political adviser / mentor / preacher for some 20 years..
and is it not the left that praises McCain for reaching across to the far left (which po's the conservative's)?? so why is it any different when he reaches across to the far right (which also po's lots of conservative's), when it's called for in his judgement??
==
gee, thanks bg, for attacking me, not the substance.
so how long does someone have to be a "spiritual guide" to qualify? McCain called Parsley his spiritual adviser. Is there a minimum time qualification in order for the words of your adviser to be imparted on you?
You seem to hint at some kind of test. Please elaborate. Otherwise, explain, if you are able, the double standard.
McCain calls Parsley his spiritual adviser and doesn't denounce the hateful comments. Obama calls Wright his spiritual adviser and does denounce the hateful comments.
Media uproar about Obama. Nothing about McCain.
Inquiring minds want to know the answer to this puzzle!
Well isn't that just the cleverest thing, meat_breath is making stabs at religion (as if meat_breath knew what it was talking about) and of course uses a couple of libtard sites that have been fisked even more often than the New York Times...
Funny stuff...
Then just to be sure that we aren't done laughing at meat_breath, it pose this inane question: "How many previous presidents' religious mentor was a raging anti-Semite?"...
Then we have yet another anon douche nozzle whining the following: "Figures that conservatards can't tolerate any dissent in opinion. So rather than actually debate the opposite side, conservatards just resort to name-calling and ad hominem attacks"...
Since there is no substance to attack from you barking libtards why not attack the fools that bring no substance but whine?
From the brown-shirt's responses I'd say they are practically in hysterics that obama is going down. SO glad the truth is OUT on the false prophet!
I don't get why you put up with brainless meat, though. He went over the edge years ago.
"hah, like you know the answer to your imaginary question??"
Yes, I do, BrainGoo. You, as expected, are too fragnucking stupid to find the answer. The question is real -- just like your ignorance.
How many previous presidents' religious mentor was a raging anti-Semite?
The irony about Rev Wright's belief that white supremacy killing the planet is that Africans adore President George W Bush and treat him with admiration and respect for all the good work he has done throughout his presidency to help impoverished Africans as they fight disease, death and eco-imperialiam.
I have seen reports that pastor Wright's replacement, Otis Moss III, is just as loony.
"Joanne, McCain actively sought and courted Hagee for almost a year before this endorsement. So how is that okay but Obama openly denouncing the statements of the pastor is not okay?" by Anonymous at 6:08 pm
First off, I said -
"As far as I know McCain was only given the support of Pastor John Hagee. Is Pastor John Hagee McCain's pastor, does he attend his church, is he his mentor, does he support Louis Farrahan (sp)?" by me
Is it not true that Pastor John Hagee has given McCain his support? Did I say anything about McCain seeking his support?
Second off, Obama had not denounced his pastor's comments before I made my comment.
"Can you say hypocrite? I knew you could. Now go look in the mirror for a clear picture of what a hypocrite looks like." by Anonymous at 6:08 pm
Hypocrite? Where? What a silly thing to accuse of person of when there is no factual basis. Nice try though.
Anonymous at 6:08 - tell me what statements of Pastor John Hagee's that McCain should renounce. I responded to three of Hagee's statements to meatbrain at 3:50 pm - do you have some others?
meatbrain - your name is fitting by the way, but you know not of what you speak, hence, the fitting name - meatbrain; now allow eight hours for your brain to digest that.

The question that needs to be asked of Senator Obama is; “If you don’t subscribe to Rev. Wright’s views, then why have you been a member of the congregation for 20 years?” If I didn’t have the same views as the church that I attend, then why would I be a member there? If in fact he does not share the same views as the congregation of Rev. Wright does, then his membership there must be for another reason.
