War Memorial to Slain Iraqi Soldier Vandalized
A war memorial dedicated to a local soldier who died while serving in Iraq was vandalized this past week.
Sgt. Brandon Lee Wallace was killed by a roadside bomb near Fallujah in April, 2007.
His father wrote a song in memory of his hero son after his death.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported that the memorial dedicated to Sgt. Wallace was vandalized this week:
CRYSTAL CITY — Robin Wallace cried the first time she saw the vandalism of a bronze sculpture dedicated to her son, Sgt. Brandon Wallace. The soldier's father, Rick Wallace, couldn't sleep after he heard about it.
"The saddest part was driving by and seeing only the boots left," Robin Wallace said.
The statue of a pair of boots, rifle and helmet at the entrance to Crystal City High School probably was vandalized early March 18, school officials said. The vandals also tore letters off of the gymnasium signage and ransacked a coach's office, Superintendent Ron Swafford said.
"I'm a veteran myself, and I cannot see why anybody would do that," Swafford said. "Our kids have been really touched by it. Every time I go out in the hall, they ask me if we have any information about who did this."
Sgt. Wallace was killed last April by a roadside bomb in Iraq. The sculpture was dedicated in September.
The vandals broke the rifle and helmet off of the base of the memorial and stuffed them in nearby bushes. The broken pieces now sit in Swafford's office.
A local welder has volunteered to fix the monument. A reward for information leading to an arrest started at $200. It's now at $1,650, Swafford said.
Rick Wallace said he would like to give the vandals two options: jail time or a tour of duty in Iraq.

Apparently the "patriotic" vandals were "supporting" the troops.

How do these vandalizing low-life heartless, loser, scum-of-the-earth, trash live with themselves?
A pox on these vandals and their families for producing such nasty, vile, creepy creatures.

The latter is probably a bad idea. We really don't need two or three more insurgents trying to kill American troops in Iraq, especially ones that would be wearing American uniforms. (Though not unlikely that they would just shoot their own feet off anyway.)

I hate to break this to you but the political will is not there on either side of the aisle and will not be until one of our cities goes up in a mushroom cloud.
There is a solution to the problem. One that is easier then you think.
You want the illegals to go home? You want it to be so difficult for them to even exist here that they will go home and tell all their friends to stay where they are?
Bypass the federal government.
Arizona is showing how to do it and it doesn't take that much. Enact laws to prevent employing illegals, prevent them from getting drivers liscenses, require proof of citizenship to rent or purchase housing. Stop all benefits to them-no welfare, no health care, no schooling for their kids. No more government agencies using the "marque ocho por Espanol". If they get arrested for a first offense they get turned over to INS for deportation. Second arrest there is an extra penalty assessed on them for being here illegally again after being deported.
Where we need to feds to act is getting rid of the anchor baby syndrome. But that can be bypassed, too. Just require the parents citizenship status to be the determining factor-for example they want welfare, schooling and such for their kids then the only way they get it is if the parents are citizens. Not just their anchor baby. All the ESL courses need to be eliminated, too.
All this can be done at the local/city/state level and if done properly there isn't a damned thing the LLL's and their ethnic/race warrior buddies can do about it.
