Obama Repeats Auschwitz Gaffe on Memorial Day

Evidently, Reverend Wright is not Obama's only crazy uncle...

Ace of Spades and HotAir reported today on Obama's other gaffe from Memorial Day.
During his talk yesterday in New Mexico, Obama talked about another crazy uncle:

...Obama also spoke about his uncle, who was part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz...
This uncle must have truly been crazy and not just an America-hater like Wright...
Since Auschwitz was freed by the Russians and not the Americans.

It's not the first time Obama made that gaffe:

Barack Obama spoke about Auschwitz back in 2002 in his speech against the Iraq War:

My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain. I don't oppose all wars.
Newsmax reported on this back in April:

All this would be great if it weren't pure fiction. For starters, the Nazis destroyed the Treblinka death camp in 1943 after shooting the last prisoners, a group of Jewish girls.

Then there is the problem of the locations of Treblinka and Auschwitz. Both Nazi death camps were located inside Poland. Thus, no American troops ever entered the camps until years after the war was over.

Auschwitz was taken by the Soviet Union after the Nazis evacuated most of the prisoners. The retreating Nazis left those too weak or sick to walk behind. The 322nd Rifle Division of the Red Army liberated them on Jan. 27 1945.
So, it's not the first time he talked about US soldiers at Auschwitz.
It's just the first time he mentioned that his crazy uncle was there.

UPDATE: Obama now says it was his great-uncle not his uncle and it was Buchenwald not Auschwitz.
Of course.

  1. Maybe he is such a neo-marxist that he simply wishes that his uncle was in the red army in the 40's. Boy, wouldn't that be some kinda democrat bona fides?

It's more likely that either he is mendacious, unaware of history and geography, or believes that we ALL are typical stupid white people.

With any luck this may turn into the Obamessiah's Tuzla dash! Keep his folks feet to the fire on this one!

His uncle DID liberate Auschwitz: Uncle Joe! (Stalin was nicknamed "Uncle Joe" by the Western media.)

So I guess this means it is fair game to look more deeply into the past of uncles (and other relatives) on the other side of the family - Barack´s father.
Hmmmm....wonder what religion, occupation, etc, they had?

With Barack´s Auschwitz anecdote isn´t he just trying to show that:
    a) in his family were patriotic Americans - they fought in WWII.
    b) his family helped the Jews.

So what about the other side of the family tree? If there are any Muslim uncles and aunts will they be mentioned by Obama? Hmmmmm....

  4. According to Obama's memoir, his grandfather never really saw combat.
Yet Obama tells us his father "marched with Patton" and "marched through the mud of France." This means Stanley Dunham was an infantry man, marched with Patton, and never saw combat.

    It doesn't add up.

Umm.. he said his uncle was among the first US soldiers to enter Auschwitz.

First US soldiers to enter Auschwitz DOES NOT MEAN liberated Auschwitz.

I think some reporter screwed up big.

Maybe he meant "Frank" (AKA Frank Marshall Davis .. "I was a Communist and a subversive and a threat to Hawai`i.").

He was O'bama when he spoke with Irish voters. I think he even claimed at some point to have Jewish Heritage. Now this, I bet if he was pandering to the LPA (Little People of America) he'd get down on his knees and claim to be one of them too!

Maybe it was Attica his "Uncle" was in and not the attic!

Wouldn't the first soldiers to enter Auschwitz have been on the German payroll?

And is it his Uncle or his grandfather who he is trying to lie about? Or is he claiming that they both entered Auschwitz?

I am determined to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. That said, he is looking more like a clown every day.

He really seems to be making this up as he goes along.

Do we have an affirmative action program in place for the highest office in the land?

Or maybe, you guys could do your research and discover that... he named the wrong camp. He said Auschwitz when he should have said Buchenwald.

Man, that Obama. What a filthy liar, abusing the trust of the country. I don't know how we could possibly elect a guy like that. Better go with McCain, he only lies about little stuff like the national budget.

    Evan,

It is not the responsibility of the listener to determine what the intent was.

Maybe your guy should bring his soaring rhetoric down a couple thousand feet and concentrate on the heading he is flying.

Obama has gone over the deep end, but it's reasonable.

The MSM never calls him out on his pandering, lying bullshite.

Now he figures that he can just say whatever he believes that the audience wants to hear, and he'll get away with it.

Look. The emperor has no clothes, and no grasp of economics, foreign policy, geography, history...

Hmm...maybe Obama should repeat high school.

Anybody who tries to make this lie "true" by obscuring the facts is an idiot. You Obama apologists are sickening. How can an uncle WHO DOESN'T EXIST liberate another camp? "He just misspoke," you say? Grow up. He's a LIAR. He may even be delusional. Only a moron would vote for him. Because only a moron would have his head so firmly planted up there as not to see this for what it is.

Maybe his uncle was fighting with Russia... just saying.

It might be the US that was the mix-up; Hard keeping up with family in the collective... doesn't exist. Ex: Uncle Joe, Uncle Mao, etc.

Everytime I hear his version of history, it screams al Manar/madrassa; When I hear his thoughts on scripture and the black church... he has no clue and wore it as a jacket to get where he needs to. He's still there (yes, he's made an excuse for the young pastor as well), and you haven't heard from Wright since. Set up.

I want to know what legitimate claims re: Hamas did he mean

Where did he get the Israel is a would, sore, infection in foreign policy (Who do you hear say that... exactly)

I want to know what was so important to meet with Qazwini about that the American public can't know about?

Since Iran is a great threat now (thanks for falling into the trap dems), and we just caught another Iranian guard in Iraq, is it on?

  20. Byron York at NRO has more: “Senator Obama’s family is proud of the service of his grandfather and uncles in World War II – especially the fact that his great uncle was a part of liberating one of the concentration camps at Buchenwald. Yesterday he mistakenly referred to Auschwitz instead of Buchenwald in telling of his personal experience of a soldier in his family who served heroically,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Information about the infantry division that Obama’s great uncle was a part of that took part in the liberation of a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp in Nazi German:

    Link about Obama’s great uncle’s infantry division — http://www.89infdivww2.org/ohrdruf/
From the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum — http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/article.php?lang=en&ModuleId=10006140

Obama’s Great Uncle (His Grandmother’s Brother) Served in the 89th Infantry Division that Liberated Ohrdruf, a Subcamp of Buchenwald, the First Camp Liberated by Americans, on April 4, 1945; It Was Visited by Eisenhower, Patton and Bradley on April 12th. “Formed in 1917, shortly after the United States entered World War I, the 89th Infantry Division participated in several major military battles. In World War II http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/article.php?lang=en&ModuleId=10005137, the "Rolling W" division landed in France in January 1945 and quickly advanced to the German front. In March 1945, it joined the Third Army's assault on the Rhineland, crossing the Sauer, Moselle, and Rhine rivers that same month. On April 8, the 89th captured the town of Eisenach and subsequently advanced farther into Thuringia and into neighboring Saxony, where it took the city of Zwickau on April 18, 1945. On April 4, 1945, the 89th overran Ohrdruf, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Ohrdruf was the first Nazi concentration camp liberated by U.S. troops in Germany. A week later, on April 12, Generals Dwight D. Eisenhower, George S. Patton, and Omar Bradley visited Ohrdruf to see, firsthand, evidence of Nazi atrocities against concentration camp prisoners.” [United States Holocaust Museum http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/article.php?lang=en&ModuleId=10006140

    So,

Obama's great uncle was a "typical white person?"

Amazing how he utilizes the white side of his family for good in an area of weakness of his regarding the military.

Yet, he throws his "typical white" Grandmother under the table when it comes to race.

Where was his father's uncle during this time?

Obama is typical opportunistic politician. He never met a celebration, event or historical date that he cannot shine the light brightly upon himself.

As if his Great Uncle today would dare shake the Marxist inspired two-bit lawyer who has never done an honest days work in his life, much less cared about the military until his run for the Presidency.

John McCain, wounded, war veteran, POW, man of honor and experience with a long family history serving this country.

    Obama is a pretender.

    Nuff said.

Sorry, even Obama's site doesn't really say his grandfather was talking about U.S. troops at Auschwitz. Look at what he says:

"...he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka."

Even though it wasn't fellow U.S. troops who liberated Auschwitz, it was still technically fellow troops (and, yes, the Red Army in early 1945 were our allies). Stories about the finding of the death camps in Poland were coming out even before the Red Army liberated them, even though none of the Allies had first-hand knowledge of them until Russian liberation.

What is outrageous on Obama's part has to do with the fact that he mentioned his (great) uncle liberating Auschwitz, when we already know it was a subcamp of Buchenwald. Either Obama is just not smart enough on the events of World War II (having been too busy being an "activist"), nor of what his family members did during the war, or Obama is falsely embellishing his family members' records on their WWII accomplishments in order to garner votes (embellishing his own "accomplishments" is part of Obama's character).

But the bit on Obama's website isn't wrong.
