Petraeus Slams Obama's Loony Plans For Iraq

General Petraeus slammed the Obama withdrawal plan for Iraq and said the US can expect further troop cuts due to the great success of the Bush Surge.

US General David Petraeus, the top US commander in Iraq, said Thursday he expects to recommend further cuts in US forces in Iraq before he relinquishes command in September because of improved security. (AFP/Tim Sloan)

General Petraeus completely rejected Democrat Barack Obamas plans to immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq.
Petraeus says US presence in Iraq blunts Iran's growing influence in the region.
Iran Focus reported:

Army Gen. David Petraeus, who is to assume control of U.S. forces in the Middle East, says that a continued U.S. presence in Iraq is more likely to blunt, rather than inflame, Iran's growing influence in the region.

In a 46-page question-and-answer document submitted in advance of his confirmation hearing on Thursday, Petraeus says the U.S. must work on developing more leverage — primarily diplomatic or economic — to pressure Tehran to abandon its nuclear program. But, he notes, the U.S. must retain military strike options as a "last resort."

"A destabilized Iraq, rampant terrorism in the region and a nuclear-armed Middle East are not in any nation's long-term interest, including Iran's," according to the document, obtained by The Associated Press.

Last month, President Bush picked Petraeus, a four-star general, to replace Navy Adm. William J. Fallon as chief of U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Fla. The command's area of responsibility includes some of the most troubling hotspots: Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Lebanon, parts of Africa and Afghanistan.
The Washington Post has more on the expected troop reductions this fall focusing more on the political implications rather than the fact that this proves the surge was a great success.

Obambi needs a new sign on his campaign stage. It should say "PWNED by The General".

ICG reports not so rosy, at all:

Against the odds, the U.S. military surge contributed to a significant reduction in violence. Its achievements should not be understated. But in the absence of the fundamental political changes in Iraq the surge was meant to facilitate, its successes will remain insufficient, fragile and reversible.

    Who says Americans won't talk...

"140 suspected "criminals" turn themselves in to Iraqi Forces in Balad!"

    after its enemies surrender!

Tribe leaders put down their weapons and called for reconciliation in Balad causing all their members to surrender.

America wins another strategic battle in Iraq

That evil Petraeus! How dare he allow them to reconcile! How dare he win! How dare he lead our troops and our nation to victory!

al Qaeda is being run out of the country. al Sadr has choked again, after the Iraqi Army and our forces kicked his butt. Groups all over Iraq gave up, called for peace and now give our troops tips and work to restore order and peace.

The Iraqi Army is stronger than ever and their nation is rebuilding cities and towns where Saddam only oppressed and murdered innocents.

WTG General! WTG Troops! God Bless!

Obama won't listen to our troops, but millions of Americans will come November!!!!

"One local sheik taking part with the other members of his tribe said, “We are tired of fighting and want peace. The reconciliation process is a step in the right direction, and now there will be a common goal of peace between the government and those who had fought it.”"

The surge worked and the new strategy worked. McCain should get Petraeus for VP! PhD from Princeton during a time of war coming up on critical moments with Pakistan and Iran. Who successfully pulled together the right team under duress by Congress and calmly told them the truth to their clown acts in front of millions.

There was a reason Truman, then Eisenhower were President after FDR. The nation and its leaders knew we needed men that understood our enemies, had war experience, could understand military strategy and would protect our nation and our interest around the world at the time should enemies get any wild ideas. Back when Democrats had a spine and actually gave a dang before selling their souls to self-absorbed hollywood moguls like Geffen and foriegn born socialist like Soros and HuffNPuff.

Petraeus over Centcom is important. But what a ticket it would be! McCain/Petraeus 2008.

    Cindy,

passing off propaganda from propagandist... how much do they pay?

Let me know when you tell us all about Obama's military experience and his mentor "Frank" davis.

Did you find any quotes from the anti-American, racist Frank in Obama's books?

Hey Cindy, why wouldn't your man, Che-Obama-Chavez meet with our soldiers in DC? In Iraq? Or with Petraeus? But he will meet with a terrorist thug murderer like the MadManOfIran?

Well, Cindy's post has definitely confirmed one thing: she's most certainly not a member of her local Breakfast Optimist Club.

    Who is ICG Cindy?

    Gee, connect the dots:

    Robert Malley? Obama Advisor? Ding!

"One of ICG's more notable officials is Robert Malley, who in 2007 was named as a foreign policy advisor to Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama. Malley formerly served as President Bill Clinton’s Special Assistant for Arab-Israeli Affairs (1998-2001), and as National Security Advisor Sandy "I stuff my pants thief" Berger’s Executive Assistant (1996-1998). The Malley family's longstanding close ties to Yasser Arafat are significant. (For more information on these links to Arafat, see the profiles of Robert Malley and Simon Malley.)"

Gee, is this the same Malley who loves Hamas?

Cindy, honestly.... this is not MSNBC dear where you utilize propaganda from foreign interest that seek America's failure. We background check links like yours within seconds or minutes.

Maybe you would be better off serving up propganda at huffnpuffm, dailykoskomrades, or moveon.org. They eat it up there.

    ICG Profile

Robert Malley, Son of Simon Malley, a key figure in the Egyptian Communist Party:
Robert Malley - Supported Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

Anyone notice a commie connect the RED dot pattern with Obama? They're crawling out of the wookwork like rats on a sinking ship. That is America's sinking ship if Che-Red-Obama wins.

Cindy, serve up another softball. I'll let someone else bat.

Cindy is a lib. Libs are misfits. They fit into a couple of categories.
    Unhappy.
    Dysfunctional.
The Obama's of the world crave power and they tap into the lesser intellects of the Cindy's of the world. Rodham and Obama both tell Americans how bad they are, how much America sucks, how racist we all are, and how the Global Warming Boogie man is going to kill them their children and all the Polar bears. They throw in a modicum of "kill your baby while it's still legal".
Then they tell you about HOPE and YES WE CAN.
    And the misfits finally fit!!

    markj,

    lol...

that's because she's probably a member of the local breakfast red-commie-pessimist club. they eat the same thing every morning, sardines on half-toasted black russian bread and cold borsht. thus the gloomy despair and smelly dispensation.

and no, black russian bread is not a cyncial joke about Obama. it is a national favorite. not half bad after several shots of vodka with salty caviar, but tiresome after a few days in the bitter cold of winter. but I wouldn't want to be forced to eat it. variety is the spice of life - something obama is not for.

Hey Cindy, can you say "irony"??
Your post which was meant to cast doubt on the good general actually makes his case and makes BHO look all the more like the fool he is when it comes to foreign policy and most other things.
The fact that the report says that the progress we've seen is reversable means that pulling out the troops is EXACTLY THE WRONG THING TO DO!
What's BHO's plan??? Pull out the troops.
    Nice try.

Cindy ain't a lib. I am one. A true liberal who would never support the nanny state (since it stands against everything true liberals believe in). Cindy is one of those pseudo lefty Obama kissing wannabe libs (who have no idea where the word "liberal" comes from or what it really means).

    ICG... stinks of UN garbage...

Honestly, who to trust on the war in Iraq? The ICG? Or a real soldier? I go for the soldier any day.

hmm, don't think Slams is the appropriate word for it.. more like Petraeus highlights BO's lack of knowledge & experience..

    not to mention Cindy's..

  14. Cindy is just another Obamaniac troll. All she is here to do is to parrot the Obamanazi party line and that is all you will get out of her.

So please do not feed the troll, it only encourages her. You should pity her instead, she only has about 6 months left to live.

If Cindy and others would actually analyze the status in Iraq before the surge, and after (lest we not forget McCain wanted more troops much sooner as well if I'm not mistaken) it would be relatively easy to see the dramatic impact the surge has had...positively a summary from Creeping Sharia

(lest we not forget McCain wanted more troops much sooner as well if I'm not mistaken)

yes, but i believe it was Condi at one of those behind closed doors meetings who first suggested a surge (learned about that on a PBS a special)..

however, the fact is the surge alone would not have worked out as well, if at all, w/out the Anbar Awakening, which according to everyone, including Petraeus, deserves a great deal of the credit along with our troops for the overwhelming success of the surge, not to mention the enormous participation of the CLC's, now called Sons of Iraq (iow: it was a combo of the 3 that won the day)..

hence, waiting for the most opportune moment vs going in earlier on a wing & a prayer was the wisest course to take..

dang, i always forget to include the following..

of course the Anbar Awakening wouldn't have been possible if not for the COTW staying the course in the first place, not to mention the ISF (& the fine job they did standing them up)!! (thumbsup)
