Actor Rupert Everett Calls British Soldiers "Whining Wimps" ...Update: Rupert Wimps Out

Another brave thespian speaketh.

British actor Rupert Everett called British soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan "whining wimps."
FOX News reported:

English actor Rupert Everett reportedly accused British soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan of being "whining wimps".

According to the U.K's Daily Mail, the 49-year-old gay actor — whose father is retired major in the British Army — said the troops today "are always whining about the dangers of being killed. Oh my God, they are such wimps now!" he said.

He was comparing them to those in the 19th century, in particular to that of soldier and adventurer Sir Richard Burton. Everett just completed a documentary about him for Britain's Channel 4, called The Victorian Sex Explorer.

“In Burton's day they were itching to get into the fray," Everett was quoted in the Mail.
UPDATE: Rupert apologizes:

On Monday he issued a lengthy statement apologising "without reserve" to the "many in this country, and hundreds and thousands of others across the world who have lost their brothers and sisters, their fathers and mothers to the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and all the countless others".
I give him credit for apologizing.

The problem is not the soldiers or individuals. The problem is the gay mainstreaming by Britains leaders to wussify their army. Everett is whining himself because he wants a strong man behind him, not a weak man in front of him.

It is a top down problem of their leaders. Similar to what life would be like under Obama as well led by San Francisco elites.

The armies of the West became weaker since the Cold War, amounting to a little more than boy scouts. America has been fighitng all the battles for them. This is the first time many of these countries have seen such conditions since WWII.

I don't know who this guy is, but I've alway found Sir Richard Francis Burton to be fascinating, and am disappointed to hear someone with shameful and ignorant views as Everett's would be involved in a project on a complex and brilliant man like Burton.

    God bless our courageous troops.

    Jim-

I have to agree with Rupert on this one. I don't think he was insulting the military in the same way as our Hollywood Elite does.

But if you look at how easily the British surrendered their ship to Iran last year.... and how they allowed Basra to slip into chaos (BEFORE they left), I think Rupert is right on the money.

    IMHO.

  6. Maybe he was thinking of the Royal Navy just letting the Iranians take over their ship...

From personal experience I agree with Michael Yon.

The Brit soldiers are some of the world's best, it is just the direction from on high as to their tactical employment that sux.

The higher ups haven't equipped them for the task at hand and basically wanted to treat Basra like Norther Ireland which it clearly isn't.

  8. Rupert Everett plays make-believe for a living - who cares what he says.

I would imagine the morale of the British troops would be down considering their government and people do not support them enough - their government is too busy pandering to their Muslim population to give the funds and support to their fighting men and women.

  9. Pretty tough talk, coming from a poofter like Everett.

I guess he ought to know...

Hey, the Royal Navy were ordered to surrender to the Iranians. They do not have the same rules as engagements as their American counterparts.
It's not the military, it's many of the leaders who I would categorize as wimps.
Same for the Americans. As our military battles on with strength and determination, half our politicians are still trying to figure out a way to surrender.

I've only seen two movies starring Rupert Everett; he DULL in both of them (a PBS production starring Everett as Sherlock Holmes and as Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream.) Mr. Everett should concern himself with avoiding has-beenhood and leave the troops alone.

If Rupert knows how it's all done, I suggest he hop a plane and go demonstrate to the troops how it's done.
