Once again, research confirms that conservatives are happier and nicer people.

There is plenty of data that shows that Right-wingers are happier, more generous to charities, less likely to commit suicide - and even hug their children more than those on the Left.
In my experience, they are also more honest, friendly and well-adjusted.
Much of this springs from the destructive influence of modern liberal ideas.
I think it also springs from the different ways we look at life.
ReplyDeleteNon-scientifically, it seems as if right wingers are more optimistic, more hopeful in the future. They feel more in control of their own futures and want as little governmental interference as possible.
Where left-wingers tend to dwell on the negatives and what the government has failed to supply them and what needs to be done to give them their fair share.

No, a poll is not a "study" nor is it "research". A study or research is not opinion. It is a scientific analysis based on confirmed data and independent facts that prove a hypothesis and come to a conclusion based on those facts.
A study would not ask people their opinion about their own state, it would analyze it and come to a conclusion based on accumulated facts. A poll does not do that.
The fact that you do not know the difference speaks volumes.
I generally find people on the Right more satisfied with life at every level (most I know are considerably poorer than many liberals) and more optimistic in nature.

You'll find them out in the field doing good deeds and making personal sacrifices to truly try to help the downtrodden. Many (but not all) of the fantastic aid workers I deal with in Uganda fall into this category. They truly 'walk the walk' and are to honored for it.
Unfortunately, they are a very small minority of the Left, vastly outnumbered by those who will put on a show of doing 'good deeds', but never willing to make true sacrifice to do so and more to 'make a statement' than to really help. A "poll" IS research on perceptions which is precisely what a "niceness" quotient amounts to. Fortunately, there must be enough self-identified conservatives out there to justify the, frankly, unexpected results. Not unexpected because of conservatives behaviors, but rather because the liberals taking the poll possessed enough honesty to admit it.

After Obama insulted everyone in small town America, I like to let everyone know just in case ;-)
I grew up in small town America. Many of the best, brightest of our nation come from there in fact. Abraham Lincoln was a bitter, clinging, religious man from a small town that fought a war to free people as well. And it wasn't just about freeing people. It was also about power, money, etc.
What people like Anon fail to understand is regardless of any disagreements on the past between right and left, our country has a real duty to perform. A duty to work hard to rebuild a nation just like we did in Germany, France, South Korea, Japan and all across Western Europe. That was not easy, but Americans stood up to do it.
So the arguments to demonize our military, our President, or anyone on the right that support our efforts of liberty in Iraq are frankly fruitless endeavors of despair and defeatism.
We defeated a tyrant. And now 25 million people are free, no more living in fear, are slowly coming out of trauma and paranoia for 35 years of indoctrinated hate by a psycho. As each small town, city and region meet our soldiers one on one, they see Americans as humans for the first time. Not some ugly animal or beast that Saddam painted us as and brainwashed his people with propaganda for decades.
They're finally learning how to take care of themselves. America should be very proud of what our soldiers, volunteers, business, government are now doing to help rebuild that country.
Not only are they rebuilding, but like the false savior Obama likes to say about himself, "healing the planet" now. Our soldiers are doing every single day in Iraq.
They are healing a people so severely traumatized for 35 years, malnourished and diseased, left to rot under UN oil scam.
I am so proud of these soldiers and all the volunteers that help them. And on this day, so many of them fathers who voluteered, knowing... knowing they would be away from their own families.

A poll is not a study when the topic is something other than things that cannot be objectively studied; since there's no other way to learn about personal views, happiness, charitable habits not listed on tax returns....
Statistics is not a true science; it is based on probabilities. Polls are a method of obtaining research and the findings can be considered within a probability rating of plus or minus. You'd be hard pressed to ever consider statistics to be factual, but close is usually good enough, and the closer the better.

Research is diligent and systematic inquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover or revise facts, theories, applications, etc.: recent research in medicine.
Since the "subject" in this case is non-physical-- attitudes, opinions, mindsets-- and we have yet to find a way to read minds, the only way to study it is by asking people; as asking everyone is impractical, a sample group is asked.
How valid the study will be depends on the quality of the poll--the size, phrasing and the sampling-- and how well it supports any conclusions drawn.
Although it's unclear from your post, it seems that you are putting forward that because you are a liberal who has done charity work, the poll is invalid and can't be science; this is a bit like arguing that because you are allergic to peanut butter, than any doctor who says that it's healthy isn't practicing science.

Not every secret to success comes from ivory tower preachers with PhDs who turn out reams of paper based upon billion dollar boondoggle research that 20 years from now will not mean jack.
Proof is in the pudding with evolutionary psych majors determining all our thoughts are developed from bogus Darwinian mechanisms(which never accounted for intelligence or information increase) based on felonious assumptions that a billion years ago fish waddled out of the sea.
