Iraq War Vet Shot Dead Because He Was A Marine

They robbed him and told him since he was a Marine and didn't have any money he didn't deserve to live.
They put the gun to his neck and shot him.

Lance Cpl. Robert Crutchfield
Rest in Peace

Lance Cpl. Robert Crutchfield survived on feeding and breathing tubes that kept him alive for 4 1/2 months until his death.
ABC News and LGF Quick Links reported:

On leave from the violence he had survived in the war in Iraq, a young Marine was so wary of crime on the streets of his own home town that he carried only $8 to avoid becoming a robbery target.

Despite his caution, Lance Cpl. Robert Crutchfield, 21, was shot point-black in the neck during a robbery at a bus stop. Feeding and breathing tubes kept him alive 4 1/2 months, until he died of an infection on May 18.

Two men have been charged in the attack, and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason said Friday the case was under review to decide whether to seek the death penalty.

"It is an awful story," said Alberta Holt, the young Marine's aunt and his legal guardian when he was a teenager determined to flee a troubled Cleveland school for safer surroundings in the suburbs.

Crutchfield was attacked on Jan. 5 while he and his girlfriend were waiting for a bus. He had heeded the warnings of commanders that a Marine on leave might be seen as a prime robbery target with a pocketful of money, so he only carried $8, his military ID card and a bank card.

"They took it, turned his pockets inside out, took what he had and told him since he was a Marine and didn't have any money he didn't deserve to live. They put the gun to his neck and shot him," Holt told The Associated Press.

  1. This is so tragic. What is wrong with our country when our heroes are treated this way! We need to pray for conversion of heart for so many in our country. Let's pray also for this young man and his family as they mourn him. God bless, Padre Steve

Please forgive my ignorance, but what does 'was shot point-black in the neck' mean? I have heard of 'point-blank' shots, but NOT 'point-black'. Does this have something to do with the poor man's skin color, or that of his murder's?

anonymous - does the mainstream media (and ABC News is a main part of the MSM) not have editors? If it was a typo, why did an editor NOT pick it up? Why was a found by someone reading a blogg?

Perhaps the ABC News editors, and you anonymous, should back to playing cards.

Perhaps teachers will use this incident as part of the school system curricula to teach tolerance for others like they use the robbery and murder of Matthew Shepard. I wonder whether it will receive the same attention as other "hate" crimes against minorities?

I hope the sons of bitches that did this burn in hell. That is all they deserve. First I hope though that they suffer as bad as humanly possible here on Earth and then roast for eternity in the Lake of Fire.

A tragedy indeed. May blessings fall on Cpl. Crutchfield and his family. May the death penalty (still there in OH, thank God) fall on the heads of his murderers.

As a U.S. Marine vet, this is a personal affront to me even thought I did not know Robert Crutchfield. I hope the murderers suffer greatly for this!!!

Semper Fidelis Cpl Crutchfield, you will never be forgotten.

  13. Anonymous, I don't know if this was a hate crime against a minority, considering it isn't even mentioned who shot the man in the neck. I believe most crimes against blacks are committed by blacks.

Regardless, as a white person, the color of this man's skin has no relevance to the matter. A young man has been murdered, his life taken from him, through no fault of his own, because two evil men, servants of Satan, chose to do so without a second thought.

I hope the murderers are given the death penalty.

  14. This is why speaking up to defend the military and conservative issues is so important. I'm not saying wind up getting in fistfights every day but it is extremely important to fight back on a day-to-day level against the hate so casually expressed against our military by the usual idiots.

The atmosphere created by the NY Times, MSNBC, the Democrat Party and others helped pull the trigger on this Marine. They helped murder him.

Thank you for the time you spent with us Lance Cpl. Crutchfield. You were a good man.
