Do you think the Democratic plan of raising taxes on oil companies will help?
How about the Democratic plan to sue OPEC over gas prices?... Do you think that will help increase inventories?
Here's a look at the Democrat and Republican plans on Energy:

The price of oil soared today after news that oil inventories are dropping.
The AP reported:
Oil prices regained their stunning upward momentum Wednesday, soaring as crude's biggest drivers -- a weak dollar and supply and demand concerns -- brought buyers back in force. At the pump, gas prices rose to a new record over $4.05 a gallon.Hmm. Do you think Republicans should seize on this issue?
The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said oil inventories fell by 4.6 million barrels last week. Analysts surveyed by energy research firm Platts expected a much smaller decline of about 1.4 million barrels; any sign that oil supplies are falling has tended to send oil climbing.
It looks like they are doing just that...
Republicans today are pushing for offshore drilling after being blocked several times by the Democrats:
Rep. John Peterson, R-Pa. is leading the charge Wednesday, when he'll push for an amendment to a spending bill that would open up U.S. waters between 50 and 200 miles off shore for drilling. The first 50 miles off shore would be left alone.Let's see a vote!
"For 27 years, Congress has deliberately locked up vast offshore oil and natural gas reserves," Peterson said, according to USA Today. "With the price at the pump increasing daily — with no end in sight — and the cost of natural gas trading at record levels, Congress needs to unlock these reserves."
Most oil production and exploration has been banned since 1981.
According to Peterson's office, the U.S. Minerals Management Service estimates that 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas can be found along the U.S. outer continental shelf, the area affected by the ban.
Peterson is not alone in his desire to open up the shelf. An effort to unlock the resources has been underway in Congress in recent years, and several interest groups are backing the effort, too.
UPDATE: AMAZING!
DEMOCRATS BLOCK REPUBLICAN DRILL PLAN!!
FOX News reported:
A House subcommittee on Wednesday rejected a Republican-led effort to open up more U.S. coastal waters to oil exploration.Thank you Democrats!
Rep. John Peterson, R-Pa., spearheaded the effort. His proposal would open up U.S. waters between 50 and 200 miles off shore for drilling. The first 50 miles off shore would be left alone.
But the plan failed Wednesday on a 9-6, party-line vote in a House appropriations subcommittee, which was considering the proposal as part of an Interior Department spending package.
With record oil prices and gas prices projected to hover around the $4 mark for the rest of the summer, Republicans have ratcheted up their efforts to open up oil exploration along U.S. coastline. But the long-sought change has so far been unsuccessful.
Let's hope that plan to SUE OPEC works out!
Hat Tip Dave White
It doesn't seem to bother Democrats that China is drilling within 50 miles of the US coast but American companies are not allowed to.
Cassandra has more.
Iran has upped their fleet of idle tankers from 10 to 14. There are no unused tankers in the world oil market, hence the world's oil supply is constrained since the delivery fleet is constrained.

ReplyDelete[Do you think Republicans should seize on this issue?]
let me put it this way.. if someone doesn't do something, there will be anarchy.. and just wait until the ill-informed discover the Great Global Warming Swindle.. which will seal the revolution the Dems have been stroking & Obama's been provoking!!
==
Well, here we are, exactly where Allah wants us; the West is caught over a barrel. Obama thinks the cost of gas is just fine and the dems are thrilled.
ReplyDeleteWith our involvement in the war and the tremendous cost of that war we may soon find ourselves repeating history, U.S.S.R. history, that is. I feel that America is like the Army squad led into an ambush by a single Vietcong only to be surrounded and slaughtered. 9/11 was our Vietcong.
We are being systematically bled to death, oil being our blood.
What reasons are the democrats giving for banning oil exploration and extraction? Is it because of environmental issues or is it because their investments in foreign oil will go down the tubes?

bg,
ReplyDeleteI think Vanderleun put it best.
Look around you. Everything you have, everything, is there because of oil. The brute fact of the planet right now and into the next few decades is that without oil, the machine that enables you to be you runs on oil. If that oil runs out, your nation, any nation, will do all that it can to get it back.
It will eventually come down to this. And those who stand in the way will find themselves not having to worry about it anymore. The dead consume no energy.

ReplyDeleteNahanni @ 5:59 PM..
thanks for the link.. (thumbsup)
i (and many others) have not only had much the same thoughts (not nearly as clear), but have also been posting about them (not nearly as eloquently stated either) to no avail (or so it seems) since 9/11.. *sigh*
we did not listen, we're not listening still, and
to civilizations peril, perhaps we never will..

Q: How can you tell when Jim Hoft is lying?
ReplyDeleteA: HE POSTS SOMETHING TO HIS BLOG!
"It doesn't seem to bother Democrats that China is drilling within 50 miles of the US coast but American companies are not allowed to."
Really, Jimmycrap?
OOPS!
Cheney Acknowledges He Lied About China Drilling ‘60 Miles Off The Coast Of Florida’
*** begin quote ***
The problem, of course, is that the claim is completely false. After his claim was thoroughly debunked in the press, Cheney acknowledged that he had, in fact, lied in his speech, though his statement today offered no apology and issued only a half-hearted backtrack of his original claim:
"It is our understanding that, although Cuba has leased out exploration blocks 60 miles off the coast of southern Florida, which is closer than American firms are allowed to operate in that area, no Chinese firm is drilling there."
Cheney’s comments were so egregiously false that a member of his own party took to the Senate floor to correct the record. Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) decried claims of “some fabricated Cuba/China connection,” saying they have “no merit.”
*** end quote ***
Once again, reality takes Jim Hoft's lies and smacks him upside the head.
Hey, Jimmycrap! You got the balls to apologize to your readers for spreading lies?
OF COURSE NOT!
