Besides his commitment to meet with Castro, Cuban Americans are angered that Obama has picked up two advisors who worked to deport Elian Gonzalez back to Cuba.
NBC6 reported:
Obama has some foes in South Florida's large Cuban-American community. And some of those detractors plan to protest Saturday outside the Intercontinental Hotel as Obama speaks to the mayors' conference. The protesters may also be upset that Obama will not condemn the actions of Che Guevara.
Protesters claim two of Obama's advisers were responsible for putting 6-year-old Cuban refugee Elian Gonzalez into the hands of federal agents.
Those advisers are Eric Holder and Gregg Craig.
Holder, now a member of Obama's campaign team, worked for Attorney General Janet Reno during the controversy. Gregg Craig, an Obama advisor on Latin America, represented Elian's father in the international custody case.
In April 2000, federal agents took the little boy, now 14, from his relatives in Miami after they lost their fight to keep him in the United States.
Elian had survived a boating accident off the Florida coast that killed his mother, who was attempting to get to the U.S.
Elian's relatives in Cuba will be among the protesters outside the hotel Saturday.
That might have something to do with it.
UPDATE: It probably didn't help Obama that his advisor Eric Holder played dumb about the whole Elian Gonzalez incident:
Eric Holder was unconvincing in his defense of the horrible incident that he took part in.
This could be something. Hispanics are a verbal people. It is part of their DNA.
ReplyDeleteCubans, more than any other segment of our society, understand what it means to be able to protest without going to jail and never being seen again. The case of Elian is not going away. They felt betrayed by the very nation they had risked life and limb to get to for freedom.
Let's see how well this is covered by the Obamedia.
Hey, you Cubanos, there, as well as the rest of America, don't piss off the obamster! He is the great UNITER. Well, maybe not.
ReplyDeleteisn't this the same "JUDAS" that was the CLINTON'LAWYER OF RECORD FOR ABOUT 10 YRS.???was there not
ReplyDeletea conflict of interest that could of got him disbarred oh I forgot
it was against the Clintons and for Obama no wrong done there huh???plus his $100,000 he and his company WILLIAM & CONALLY pledged to Obama helped a blind-eye being turned....yes sir we can see why Obama has decided to not accept public $$$ so he can continue to be a "puppet" by the way strange how SIDNEY AND AUSTIN stays in OBAMA's corner weren"t they who long ago THOMAS AND Bill Ayers had a part in and hired his daughter-in-law BERNADETE DORHN along with Michelle Obama???
Sorry, I consider this protest a dumb one, as well as a waist of time. I empathize with the refugee being sent back. THAT was just wrong... HOWEVER, this about picking the LESSER OF TWO EVILS. Would they rather have McCain run our country? Would they feel SAFER to elect another Bushmaniac? Perhaps McCain and HIS possey would've handled the refugee case better than Obama's boys... NOT!
ReplyDeleteSo to stant there and protest against Obama's attempt at Presidency for something that happened years ago and for something that he didn't even personally do seems absolutely asinine. Do they have ANY idea how difficult it is to pick and choose who would be the best candidates to work on your team for the better of the WHOLE country?
Or are they going to hold a grudge about something that happened to a couple of people (who I am not in any way belittleing).
THINK people. Sometimes you have to go with the lesser of two evil oils in order to fry a bigger fish.
Even though there are many things I do not like about McCain, OBAMA IS THE WORST OF EVIL BECAUSE HE IS NOT WHO HE APPEARS TO BE.
ReplyDeleteCan the Democrats get Hillary back because, even though I would not vote for her either, at least the rest of us know who and what she is; I beg you Democrats bring back hillary for the sake of our country.
well to whole Elian Case was basically this as i remember
ReplyDeletethe boy's mother fled cuba without the father knowing and well isnt that kidnaping? and the father asked for him back. wouldnt you want your chil back if you spouse ran off with him to another country. and cuban they complain for everything so they should really shut up
