Busted!... Nazi Sympathizer Pat Buchanan Accused of Plagiarism, Hacked Quotes & Wrong Dates
Digital Survivors researched Nazi-sympathizer Pat Buchanan's latest novel and found several problems with the content.
The problems include:
** Hacked quotes to provide a different meaning. Buchanan even adds emotion to what was said to help push the alternative history.
** Plagiarized maps
** Wrong dates
Here is one instance where a map in Buchanan's book appears to be plagiarized:
Buchanan's map is first. Gilbert's map is second. (Click the pictures for a larger size)
In Patrick J. Buchanan's Churchill, Hitler, and "The Unnecessary War", he uses a map (Buchanan, p. 82) to show how Germany was carved up after the Treaty of Versailles. There is another map (Gilbert, p. 144) in a book by Martin Gilbert that appears very similar.Digital Survivors has more:
Similarities:** Similar topic: "Germany After Versailles" and "Germany in Defeat" both showing how Germany was carved up after World War I
** Same region focus
** Same key in the mid-left region to show "Principal German Losses". Wording and terminology is the same.
** Same key on the lower right-hand side. Buchanan even uses the same coloring method. Solid color for territory lost, stripes for territory retained, and territory retained with no fortifications.
** The same cities and regions all have sub-text. In some cases, it's the exact same text.

Who gives a shit?
Plagiarism might matter if Pat Buchanan had intellectual integrity.
BTW, it's funny how outraged leftards always are at Fox News for employing O'Reilly and Hannity, etc... how long was Pat Buchanan on Crossfire?
I never have liked that guy.
And, I'm sorry to say, but my friends who have spoken well of him seem to be antisemitic. That cinched my displeasure.
I got tired of him after his fourteenth run for POTUS. Another H. Scranton, with no creds, and a big mouth.
Pat Buchanan is a kind of "conservative for convenience".
Now, because the republicans and conservatives are losing (as he got from MSM) he has to be a "liberal for convenience".
Obama's camp, due to large funds, can now even buy the truth.
Just bemuddle the issues, then he is out.
A subtle liar.
There may be enough stylistic differences to defeat the plagiarism charge. As a matter of copyright law, one cannot copyright facts in the public domain. You also haven't shown the map title and description. Did he cite Routeledge's map, or introduce some sort of statement like "adapted from"?
Anyway, this is nitpicking. The man's odious and racist statements are enough to discredit him.
RE: You also haven't shown the map title and description. Did he cite Routeledge's map, or introduce some sort of statement like "adapted from"?
You're seeing the extent of the information that Buchanan provides on the map and its content. There's no mention of the maps throughout the text. There's not even a table in the beginning listing the maps, titles, and their page numbers. The maps are just sprinkled throughout the book.
Buchanan has listed in his bibliography two books by Martin Gilbert - Churchill: A life and The Routledge Atlas of the First World War. Buchanan cites the first book throughout with pages numbers to where he's referencing content. However, he never cites the The Routledge Atlas' or explains where he got the content or inspiration for any of his maps.
Can someone clue me in on the history of Buchanna's alledged conservative leanings?
First, all maps in the book were designed and copyrighted by Jeffrey L. Ward, as clearly indicated on each map and on the title page.
As for Buchanan's conservative creds, you might want to consult a book called, "Conscience of a Conservative". The first three pages say, basically, that anyone who calls himself a "Compassionate Conservative" is not a conservative and doesn't even understand what conservatism is. Buchanan is a true conservative. Bush is clearly not.
Pat Buchanan's new book makes some great points but falls apart when he spins he tries to spin his antisemitism in to something he thinks people can digest. He poises him self in a position where you have to agree with him, but then drops a bomb in your lap. Nice tactics, but none the less futile. I suggest reading this book review on his new book.
