Obama Visits Vacation Resort in Ramadi

"All of our top military commanders recognize that there is no military solution in Iraq. No military surge can succeed without political reconciliation and a surge of diplomacy in Iraq and the region. Iraq's leaders are not reconciling. They are not achieving political benchmarks. The only thing they seem to have agreed on is to take a vacation."

Barack Obama
Explaining Why the Surge Will Fail
August 22, 2007
Today antiwar candidate Barack Obama traveled to Ramadi, Iraq.
He sat with Sheik Ahmed Abu Risha, whose younger brother Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha, a leader of a Sunni revolt against al-Qaida in Iraq who was murdered by Al-Qaeda in September 2007.
Some vacation.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama drinks tea during his visit to the governor's headquarters in Anbar province July 22, 2008. Obama travelled to Iraq's Anbar on Tuesday to meet Sunni Arab tribal leaders whose decision to fight al Qaeda helped change the course of the conflict in the country. Here's a look at how that "military solution" is going so far in Iraq since the Bush surge of troops started in 2007:

Attacks are down to record low levels (Brookings)

US troop fatalities are at their lowest levels since the war began. (Brookings)

Also, Al-Qaeda is decimated and the Iraqi government has reached 15 of 18 benchmarks.

Yet, despite the irrefutable success of the Bush surge, Barack Obama says that he would still vote against it today.
Barack Obama is not just inexperienced, he's dangerous.

As Power Line noted, Barack Obama would rather lose a war than an election.

Beyond this visit to a palace, did Barack ever leave the Green Zone and- you know- actually meet our troops out in the field? Rather than nice safe mega bases? Did he do a market walkthrough to meet the average Iraqi? Or did he just play Mr. Elitist on world tour as make-believe President?

I also noted that the first few pictures of him with troops on this trip look like volunteer gatherings which lacked a certain level of... diversity. However, the last couple of pics I saw were Obama meeting unit formations. Is it possible the campaign asked the officers to trot out these units in formation so Barack could be seen (involuntarily) with enough 'diversity' of military people for his photo ops?

He's formally on a senate fact finding mission datatoll. Those units would have to "trot out."
The first pictures of him playing basketball or eating with the troops would all be voluntary. The latter pictures of him meeting with unit formations would would not be "requested," gatherings.
"Hey Sgt. did you hear Barack Obama is on base and the coffee shop reopened."
"Damn that's great. The coffee shop is back."

This is the most revealing thing that Obama has ever said. Ideology and political victory are his alpha and omega, results and reality are nowhere to be found. If he is elected, he may cause us to remember the Carter years as a golden age of peace and prosperity!

When asked if he is committed to winning the war in Iraq, Obama said, “I don’t think we have any choice. We have to win the broader war against terror that threatens America and its interests. I think that Iraq is one front on that war, but I think the central front is in Afghanistan and in the border regions of Pakistan.”

This sure makes that Obama's legislation, for a fixed date withdrawal from Iraq by March 31, 2008, look pretty darn stupid .. but it's so yesterday.

Obama now seems to be sounding like McCain .. didn't Clinton do about the same sort of thing back in 1992 ? Take their issues by agreeing with them.

The pivot on Iraq has now been completed with the idiotic netroots defending him.

I think your post should state that the Iraqi's have met 15 of 18 benchmarks, not 12 of 15...it's even better than you state.
