One was at the annual NRA Convention, and the other was at the dedication of a mural. I had my photo made with Mr. Heston at this event, and this was one of the high points in my life and a great honor as well.<BR/><BR/>After the signing at the mural, Mr. Heston ordered the video cameras turned off, and proceeded to give a performance in that voice of Moses in the Ten Commandments. What a show that was.<BR/><BR/>He is one of the few actors in Hollywood I will truly miss, and Ben Hur is truly one of the great movies of all time, although Will Penny is not to be dismissed.<BR/><BR/>Godspeed, Chuck. There is a celebration in Heaven, sadness on Earth, but I rejoice in knowing I will see you again. I happened to like his gruff character off screen. May not agreed with everything he said, but enjoyed it when he told punks off. I imagine he grew tired of the social wreckage of Hollywood as he grew older.<BR/><BR/>At least when men like him acted parts on film that stood for liberty, freedom, justice, good triumphing over evil, you knew the next day he wouldn't trash and bash America that gave him the opportunity to be a star. <BR/><BR/>He knew America stood for good. His fellow actors, many gone before him, fought in WWII and they not only lived out service and sacrifice, but were not whiney, two-faced, spoiled brats who turned on their country at first opportunity. Bop Hope, Jimmy Stewart, etc., continued to give thru USO and other services to the armed forces.<BR/><BR/>The audience knew, when many of these men played situations involving war, life and death struggles and read lines that called for deeper philosophical issues that they had been thru real life scenarios often that mirrored their parts. <BR/><BR/>Today, starry eyed metro-sexuals and models, or weirdness is in. Few today are made from the same character as so many that went thru WWII.<BR/><BR/>People like Jimmy Stewart went to Church and Sunday school. They lifted people up when the film industry actually cared about our nation.
