The other vote from yesterday- Amendment Number: S.Amdt. 2334 to S.Amdt. 2327 to H.R. 2669 (College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 )

"To prevent the Federal Communications Commission from repromulgating the fairness doctrine."

The amendment needed 60 votes to pass.
Sadly, democrats chose to vote down freedom of speech.

  1. While this isn't good news, it's a safe bet that the so-called Fairness Doctrine will be voted down, probably by a wider margin than this vote.

  2. it is important to note that RCTV is only transmitting via cable. this limits its viewership to about 20% of the population. Also, the government is new trying to force the cable companies to bend to the governments doctrine to stay in country.

I don't get this.... It was supposed to be a bill to fund education. The Repug's tagged on an amendment to prohibit the re-introduction of the fairness doctrine - which only mandated balance in the use of the public airwaves and had nothing to do with free speech. So it was not approved. What does this have to do with suppressing free speech?? Another point would be that only a cloture vote requires 60 votes, not the actual vote. But since the obstructionist repugs (up or down vote - we just want an up or down vote!@!!!) filibuster everything now, it only appears that votes require 60 to be approved.... I don't think you guys understand what is going on here....

On which planet is this the case? Is it within 80 million lightyears of reality?
