Thanks Dinah
I really hope you guys made plans to engage as many people as possible in documenting the hatred and violence that will be directed against these grand speakers. I have bookmarked the other site as well. I also hope all the local newspapers and tv stations were made aware of these events... not that many of them would give objective coverage, but one never knows.......
ReplyDeleteGood points, Otter.
ReplyDeleteWe should have pretty good coverage from the campuses throughout the week even if the local news decides not to report on the events.
Ann Coulter discussing Islam makes me nervous. I like 99% of what Ann has to say, but on this issue she's about as successful as Nancy Pelosi on Turkey; she incites and inflames.

"Islamo-fascism" is a nonsensical term that inspires fear, misunderstanding, and doesn't even describe the radical Islamic movement it purports to describe. It makes two major mistakes -- confusing theocracy with fascism while falsely implying some tactical interconnectedness between groups as disparate as the Republic of Syria to al-Qeada, or Hezbollah to the Taliban.
ReplyDeleteThe term is the deeply unserious product of people who fancy themselves deeply serious.
DU
While the term islamo-facism isn't perfect, it works on many levels to describe the goals of movements such as Al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood.
ReplyDeleteThose movements resemble Fascism in that they are undemocratic, authoritarian, sometimes racist and nationalist( see Iran ). They also resemble theocracies in their emphasis on Islam and it's role in governing the state(all of them).
Besides, outside of this movement, no one is calling them anything other than the 'Religion of peace'. Don't blame the messenger for what it's called. Blame the incompetents(such as yourself eye), for trying to muddle the situation and not calling it anything but 'complicated' and 'having many shades of grey.'
'the mechanical eye' is suffering from a serious malfunction.
ReplyDeletethe term islamofascism was coined by a muslim, one Khalid Duran, a lifetime scholar of islam:

I would say someone seeing it from the Inside of his Own faith, knows quite a bit more than some fool from DU.
Heh. Looking back at tme's logo, I find I am correct.
HAL was at least, smarter.
Sadly,
ReplyDeleteI was at the UW Madison event and Horowitz sucked like a Hoover.
Lame and boring.
Cordially,
Uncle J
Add Princeton to the list - here.
ReplyDeleteThe mind boggles at the investment of brain power in building up a pseudo-philosophical foundation for what's basically a marketing gimmick for the so-called "War on Terror." These are all people with way too much time on their hands.
ReplyDelete.
ReplyDeleteYey Robert Spencer and all the other heroes! I hope Ann Coulter makes these terrorist monkeys mad.
Support GLBT Rights! Fight back against those that stone gays to death! Democracy NOT Theocracy!
STOP KUFFARPHOBIA Demonstration at Whitehall in London, 12pm Friday 10/26/07!
I think we all must start calling the Islamofascists 'racists'. We should scream that they are hateful towards the Christian race, and the Jewish race, and the Hindu race, and the Atheist Race, that they are Christianityphobiasts. They will scream that Christianity is not a race, and we'll say:
"See, Islam is NOT a race either.
And by the way, the Bible doesn't say to convert, conquer or kill non-Christians; like the Koran says to do to non-Muslims. So there YOU RACIST hater of non-Muslims! You're a Kuffarphobic!"
Be careful all you in London Friday 10/26!
