ReplyDeletein my hometown paper the Sacramento Bee, the story of the protest in SF was crammed at the bottom of page A10 with about 100 words devoted to it, below a much larger article about how Iraqis had recently taken control of Karbala province from coalition forces.

And the pro-war demonstrations garnered ... how many? A few dozen guys standing around waving Israeli flags.
ReplyDeleteI loved however the initial AP headlines breathlessly reporting "thousands" marching for a swift end to the war. The turnout was so pathetic is was kind of sad. The logic is priceless: a few thousand hyperzealous morons march through the streets carrying obnoxious signs and the rest some odd 300 million of us are just going to change our views.
ReplyDeleteHere in Seattle, they scraped every barrel they could find, and got participants from all over the state. Total turnout? A bit upwards of 2,000.

ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how stupid and naive these people are an how readily they fall for simplistic slogans. Like that 'Stop the war on Iraq' poster. The war on Iraq stopped years ago; as soon as Saddam was deposed we were no longer at war with the nation of Iraq. Now we are allied with the democratic government of Iraq, and are engaged in a war on various violent Islamist groups and genocidal sectarian militias. That's not a war on Iraq, it's a war for Iraq.
ReplyDeleteThe only way that sign makes sense is if you believe AQI and it's Islamic State of Iraq or one of the militias is Iraq's real legitimate government. Either they're too stupid to grasp the repugnant implications of that sign, or they're something much worse...
