The framed photo hanging in the Reagan Ranch shed shows Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in a pose from "Gone With the Wind." The British press published the mock poster but Reagan liked it so much he had it framed and displayed it next to where he hung his saddles.
I'm in Santa Barbara and am heading over the the Reagan Ranch this morning with Jason Mattara and the Young America's Foundation.
The horrible news today from Syria and Venezuela ought to make this trip to the Reagan Ranch on "Freedom Week" even more impactful.
I hope to post more later.
If you haven't seen this yet, here is a great video from YAF celebrating Freedom Week- the Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall:
"Freedom is never more than one generation away... from extinction."
-Ronald Reagan
Meanwhile... here is some important news for your Friday:
A Florida school will Honor Conscientious Objectors during Veteran's Day ceremonies!!
Thousands of Palestinians apply for Israeli citizenship(?)
Rep. John Conyers and Michael Moore push universal health care.
Another Leftist Hoax--- This time on global warming.
Goofy Ron Paul calls the surge a "failure".
** Rebel diplomats disgrace the State Department
*** Democrats Vow to Lose Iraq War Now That We're Winning!
And... Tomorrow is the 232nd Anniversary of the US Marine Corps.
UPDATE---
Outside the Reagan Ranch with student leaders from the Young America's Foundation.
This is the jeep that President Reagan drove Barbara Walters around in during a memorable interview.
Now this is a memorable photo...
Ronald and Nancy Reagan invited Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev to the ranch while Reagan was in office. Gorbachev, not used to proper cowboy attire, put his hat on backwards. Reagan said nothing.
UPDATE: Stacy McCain at the Washington Times has more on the tour today.
I noted the desire, the apparently rampant desire of Pelosi and the rest of the party of the Seditious & Sleazy in yesterday's Politico posting in the Crypt section: “In last year's election, the American people called for a new direction; nowhere was that direction more called for than in the war in Iraq,” Pelosi told reporters. “And so in the next day or so, we [will] once again bring to the floor legislation that makes a distinction, a clear distinction: choose a new direction from the Bush foreign policy in Iraq.”...
ReplyDelete"American people called for a new direction"...
Hmmm, according to Rasmussen Reports we have the following: When it comes to the War in Iraq, should the United States withdraw all combat troops immediately, bring the combat troops home within a year, or stay until the mission is completed?
26% Withdraw all combat troops immediately
33% Bring combat troops home within a year
35% Stay until the mission is complete
6% Not sure
So apparently most of the American people aren't buying the package of the 'Cut & Runners' package with the enthusiasm Pelosi seems to think they are...

ReplyDeletethanks for the round up GP..
another chink in our armor exposed..
excerpt:
[In the last few years, a host of serious critics have called for major reforms to improve FSO discipline and make State better organized and staffed. But, as a Foreign Affairs Council report aptly noted, "Countless reports have been produced to make the department perform its diplomatic missions more effectively, but these reports have been duly filed and forgotten."
The department can, and needs to, do better. A good start would be to:
* Overhaul, or scrap, the current FSO-assignment system, which places employee preferences over department needs;
* Dismiss any FSO who refuses to abide by the condition of employment to serve anywhere. Foreign Service jobs are the most sought-after in the federal government. Each year, State appoints (hires) only a few hundred out of 15,000 applicants.
* Determine if AFSA inappropriately encouraged FSOs to resist the legitimate policy direction of the president and secretary of State, interfering with the president's constitutional authority to conduct foreign policy.
The State Department plays a unique and much-needed role in defending American values and promoting American interests - at least, it should.
It certainly has in the past. Throughout its history, the United States has been blessed with dedicated and daring diplomats. Reforming State to undo the current disgrace, to again help the nation face the enormous challenges of a dangerous and unfriendly world, would be a great tribute to their memory - to say nothing of a tremendous benefit to our nation's security.]

Wish I were at the Reagan Ranch...
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the Ron Paul entry is actually mine. It's bizarre that anti-war folks still adhere to the misnomer that the surge is a failure. Not that Ron Paul said it "was" a failure when operations are still ongoing. That's a testament to his cluelessness. He'd be an awful commander in chief IMO.
Mikhail wore his hat backwards? What a stupid commie.
ReplyDelete:-)
Thanks for coming by my blog.
If you ever get out Rockford way give me a shout.
ReplyDeleteDixon is about an hour away. We can drive Route 2 along the Rock River. Very pretty.
Good comment, bg. Way OT, but:
ReplyDeleteThe union then produced a poll suggesting 68 percent of FSOs "oppose directed assignments to Iraq."
Cripes-who else but a pinko outfit would trot out a damn poll to make their point?! Who gives a rat's howard dean what they support or oppose? What are they overpaid to do that they should be exempt from 'tough' postings, unlike-say-underpaid members of the Armed Services?
The surge in Iraq is clearly working-death sentence my a$$!-and I think a purge at the State Department would work just as well.
Seeing these photos brought back so many memories. Ronald Regan was like America's Dad. We loved him and we got the impression that he loved us. All of us, Democrat or Republican, it didn't matter. He loved his country and he loved his people and his people loved him.
ReplyDeleteI miss him.
Great photos!
ReplyDeleteI thought the Democrats said that the ole' "cowboy diplomacy" didn't work??? Someone forgot to tell Reagan. :-)
