Iranian Fars News reported:
TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- A prominent Iranian lawmaker said here on Sunday that a recent proposal raised by Saudi Arabia for the establishment of a consortium outside the region to enrich uranium for Iran and other Middle-East users has been dictated by the US.
Addressing an open session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly here on Sunday, the vice-chairman of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Mohammad Nabi Roudaki described the Saudi proposal as "unacceptable".
"Why should Iran's home-grown nuclear technology be given up and why should another country enrich uranium for us," he said, reiterating that the plan has been "dictated by the US".
The more they lash out at Arabia, the more everyone becomes convinced of their perfidy.
ReplyDeleteI continue to be unsure about the degree to which open warfare between Iran and Saudi Arabia is possible or likely. Mahmoud Ahmedinajad is certainly motivated by both his eschatology (make lots of chaos to bring on end times events) and the demands of a fear state to have some external threat that is more frightening to the people than the regime itself. The Saudis know this and are likely not pleased with an unstable ruler of a nation which they are in regional and interregional rivalry with on political, religious and economic matters gaining nuclear weapons.
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't see it as a near-term likelihood, there seem to be a lot of factors that would put those two nations on an eventual path towards hostilities.
