Do you remember when Valerie Plame sent her husband Joe Wilson to Niger?
Although she denied it several times, Plame did indeed come up with the idea that her husband would be an ideal candidate to sort out the Niger/Iraq uranium sale question.
In fact, here's a copy of the memo--
An unclassified government document, the Carl Ford Jr. memo had this to say about sending Joe Wilson to Niger:
Here's a closeup of the document...
And, here's the transcript from the memo:
Notes: Niger/Iraq uranium meeting CIA 2/19/02Valerie Plame sent Joe.
Meeting apparently convened by Valerie Wilson, a CIA WMD managerial type and the wife of Amb. Joe Wilson, with the idea that the agency and the larger USG could dispatch Joe to Niger to use his contacts there to sort out the Niger/Iraq uranium sale question. Joe went to Niger in late 1999 in regard to Niger's uranium program, apparently with CIA support.
A month before Robert Novak wrote his column, Ambassador Joseph Wilson spoke out against the Bush Administration and Israel at the Far-Left 2003 IRAQ FORUM Conference.
The audio is still posted HERE (40:38 in duration)
In his speech, Ambassador Joseph Wilson described himself as the investigator sent to Niger by the government and says the government sent him there and not the CIA (a lie). Wilson said there was nothing to the uranium story (another lie), described the US as "occupiers" of Iraq (a shocking statement at the time), and described a conspiracy to help Israel dominate the Palestinians.
Joe Wilson repeated the lie for several years that the Iraq was not seeking uranium from Niger even though five days after Wilson's NYT op-ed, George Tenet put out a statement describing how the person the CIA sent to check out the Niger story (Joe Wilson) found that the Iraqis had indeed tried to open up trade talks, which were interpretted by government officials in Niger as an attempt to purchase uranium ore.
And, then there is this news from yesterday...
The AP reported that the last load of Saddam's uranium was shipped to Canada:
The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein’s nuclear program - a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium - reached a Canadian port Saturday to complete a secret U.S. operation that included a two-week airlift from Baghdad and a ship voyage crossing two oceans. It's a bummer about all of that yellow cake.
The removal of 550 metric tons of “yellowcake” - the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment - was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam’s nuclear legacy.
It must suck being Joe Wilson today.
Don Surber has more on how George W. Bush saved the world.
American Thinker has more on Saddam's unreported nuke program.
** Is anyone else wondering why the Bush Administration is not making a big stink out of this?
Jeff Goldstein on Saddam to Joe Wilson-- "You've got punked!"
Joe Wilson was just one more useful idiot who believed he was something more.
ReplyDeleteAll the lies are bubbling to the surface, now.
The press is very quiet. They crossed all kinds of lines and can never admit it.

ReplyDeletegreat post GP.. (thumbsup)

dang.. been posting everything conceivable about Joe Wilson's lying & Saddam's WMD for years now.. i don't believe Soros Dems, the Marxist Support Machine or moonbats have eyes & ears, all they can do is bark!!
God Bless President Bush & God Bless America!!

Here we thought you went in there for the oil. Turns out all you wanted was cheap electricity from Canada. Sheesh!! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, a job well done.
Thanks Pat.
ReplyDeleteI borrowed your line.
Well now I'm sure this document went past those leagues of fact checkers at the New York Swine and soon an apology to its customers (its dwindling customer base) will be forthcoming...
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if mega-nostrils Waxman still want his investigation to carry on?
A- The CIA IS part of the government.
ReplyDeleteB- His wife did not send him, nor would she have had the authority to send him. At best, she SUGGESTED that he be sent to the people who were in position to make such a decision.
Hey ff11 nice attempt at skirting the issue, the issue of Plame and Wilson lying...
ReplyDeleteJuandos,
ReplyDeleteWhen did they lie?
++
ReplyDeletepardon me juandos..
ff11 @ 6:39 PM..
When did they lie?
every time they opened their mouths.
Wilson's trip to Niger "lent more credibility to the original Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports on the uranium deal."
and all of this is news to you??

Why is this memo surfacing now?
ReplyDeleteDidn't Plame testify before Congress that she did not suggest her (lying) husband be sent to Niger? Wasn't she under oath?
Valerie Plame did not SEND her husband to Niger. Even your post says so--it says "...with the idea that the agency and the larger USG could dispatch Joe to Niger to use his contacts there to sort out the Niger/Iraq uranium sale question."
ReplyDeleteShe had no authority to send him anywhere. So your claim is bogus and, as usual, wrong.
And you might want to hold your horses a bit on the yellow cake. This yellow cake referenced in this story was known to International Arms Inspectors, and had been under control sense 1992, after the Gulf war. Hans Blix had inspected and knew about this stuff.
It wasn't a lack of uranium but a lack of technology which hindered Saddam's program, and then it was forcibly shut down.
In fact, in 1981 and 1982, Iraq had already imported from Niger 300tons of yellowcake uranium.
Gullible as usual in posting a bogus story.
So the truth finally comes out: She was outed because she recommended that her husband, the former ambassador, be sent to Niger! Helluva payback, Dick.
ReplyDeleteThis is old news. It was uncovered in 2004 and reported.
ReplyDeleteWhile Saddam planned on reconstituting his nuclear program, this is not it.
This has nothing to do with the Wilson/Plame farce.
Here is a summary of the yellow cake.

far as i know it's resurfacing, as i've
known about the memo since 2003..
Memo May Aid Leak Probe
the MSM has been covering up for both the Wilson's LIES & Fitz's FARCE.. as he knew the supposed "leaker" was Armitage long BEFORE he took the case to trial, so go figure..
oh btw: Fitz is now in charge of the Rezko trial.. so you can just imagine what's being covered up in regards to Obama's, Rezko, Auchi, Alasmarae, Saddam connections (just to name a few)..

Sure... 550 metric tons of uranium yellowcake, not news, nothing to see here... just keep moving, folks... Remember, 'Bush Lied'... The Obama shrine is just around the corner...
ReplyDeleteIt was certainly not news to the IAEA, or any member of our government interested enough to read IAEA reports.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.iaea.org/OurWork/SV/Invo/factsheet.html#indigenous
Speaking of the IAEA....
ReplyDeleteIt was the IAEA that said Iraq's representative for nuclear issues, Ambassador Zawahi (who made a passionate plea for Iraq's nuclearization at the 1995 Nuclear NPT conference), went to Niger on a "trade mission" in the late 1990's.
Given Zawahi's background, and that the ONLY thing Iraq had ever bought from Niger was uranium, it was obvious that Zawahi was not in Niger to buy cowpeas or groundnuts or poker chips.
The IAEA took the visit seriously enough that they insisted on interviewing Zawahi, which they did, in Baghdad, under the watchful eyes of Saddam's monitors.
So the IAEA was monitoring this yellowcake. And they were careful enough to keep an eye on the significant players.
ReplyDeleteShould we somehow see this as a condemnation of their inspections?
Now ff11 will explain to the class the purpose of having 1.2 million pounds of uranium oxide on hand.
ReplyDeleteThis should be good.
And those UN inspectors? Would they be as effective as those in charge of the Oil-for-Bribes Program??
Harry,
ReplyDeleteQuick check revealed that Uranium Oxide is used as nuclear fuel and in making semiconductors.
Not really sure what you are getting at. Regardless, Saddam's original goal for it is irrelevant once it was bagged, tagged, and being monitored by the IAEA.
BTW, the IAEA inspectors were effective enough to keep the Uranium in place for over 20 years until we invaded and eventually ended up with villagers dumping out the yellowcake to use the barrels for storing water!!!
Great, you found a supply of yellowcake that we've known about for 17 years. And it took 8 years of searching. Good work.
ReplyDeleteNow that we're all done, we can get out of Iraq now, right?
Joe Wilson is a disengenious liar and always has been.
ReplyDeleteEmbarrasingly dumb.
ReplyDeleteThis yellowcake has been known about all along. In fact, one of the main reasons that many thought the "yellowcake from Africa" story so hard to beleive, was because everyone knew that Saddam had yellowcake, from the late-eighties, early nineties, program. This is that stuff.
You REALLY must think you readers incredibly stupid.
Oh, and thanks for providing documentation proving what Valerie has said all along - that she suggested her husband to the higher-ups who actually made the decision to send him.
Hey bg as usual your stuff (7:01 PM comment) is excellent and timely...
ReplyDeleteSadly some can't read the words and figure it out...
Thanks KS for outting yourself yet again: "She had no authority to send him anywhere. So your claim is bogus and, as usual, wrong"...
"And you might want to hold your horses a bit on the yellow cake. This yellow cake referenced in this story was known to International Arms Inspectors, and had been under control sense 1992, after the Gulf war. Hans Blix had inspected and knew about this stuff"...
This is the same Blix that worked for an socialist outfit rife with the OIL FOR FOOD SCANDAL?
LOL! Good one...
Yet another, 'ignorance is bliss' comment: "So the truth finally comes out: She was outed because she recommended that her husband, the former ambassador, be sent to Niger!"...
Hmmm, must be a New York Times reader and worshiper since in the real world where thinking people were paying attention to what was going on there was this: When And Why Joe Wilson Outed Valerie Plame
It didn't help that Wilson & Plame outted themselves in Vanity Fair either...
Also apparently the lying slag didn't help herself when she publically exposed a CIA front company in 1999...

ReplyDeleteoh wow.. some people sure get carried away with themselves via interjecting all sorts of imaginary accusations..
re: bg @ 7:01 PM..
flashbacks:
The UN, Al-Tuwaitha, and nukes
excerpts:
[The material at Tuwaitha is also characterized as being 'under IAEA seal and control.' The article states that only two tons of yellowcake remained at Al—Tuwaitha after Gulf War I. This is simply incorrect, according to my own sources. Either the AP, the IAEA, or both, are misrepresenting the facts.
All of this begs the question: why did the IAEA allow Iraq to retain such massive amounts of nuclear material, when its three nuclear facilities had been destroyed over 12 years ago, and have never been repaired? In fact, the Russian reactor is so hot, it would take years to clean up the facility; it's a total write off. Iraq had no legitimate reason to have possessed the yellowcake.]
[And why didn't the UN ship the yellowcake and the low—enriched uranium out of the country 12 years ago?]
About that 500 tons of yellow cake...
excerpt:
[The story begins at the end of the first Gulf War when inspectors found a 500 ton cache of refined yellow cake uranium at Iraq's primary nuclear research facility in Al—Tuwaitha outside of Bagdhad. The cache was part of a huge inventory of nuclear materials discovered by UN inspectors that included low—level radioactive material of the type used for industrial and medical purposes as well as a quantity of highly enriched uranium suitable for bomb production.]
The UN's Yellowcake Loophole
But this begs the question: how could yellowcake deals proceed with nations that were already under restrictions established in the UN's Non—proliferation Treaty (NPT), and presumably under the watchful eye of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)?
The answer is simple: in 1972 the IAEA itself enacted changes to its own regulations that allowed certain nuclear materials to be maintained and traded even by countries known to be covertly developing a nuclear capability or who supported terrorist groups.
It is important to understand that yellowcake cannot be directly introduced to the enrichment process. It must first be converted to uranium dioxide. In its final report, the Iraqi Survey Group (ISG) noted that Iraq had over 4,500kg of natural uranium dioxide that was under IAEA safeguards. There was also over 6.5 tons of uranium dioxide that had not been declared to the IAEA and was therefore not monitored by the UN. Saddam had a huge amount of material that given the proper equipment could have been immediately enriched to make nuclear fuel for a reactor or a nuclear weapon.
Then there was the problem of the 500 tons of yellowcake, some of which had slipped under the IAEA radar. But a key notation appears on the ISG inventory next to all of the yellowcake finds at Al—Tuwaitha: not subject to safeguards according to INFCIRC/153 corrected.
So, according to the ISG, the baseline material that is used to manufacture uranium dioxide, which is required to be under IAEA safeguards, is itself not subject to those same safeguards!]
but of course the IAEA et al couldn't possibly be the least bit corrupted.. i mean they not only swore Saddam had stockpiles of WMD, but upped the anti on the amount.. while at the same time, they supposedly didn't have a clue as to Lybia's WMD (working in conjuction with SH's nuclear export plan), but not an iota pertaining to the 18 years worth of clandestine nuclear projects going on in Iran under their noses (and still is btw) until the COTW went into Iraq in 2003, go figure..
