Democrats like to attack evil American oil companies and block them from drilling the energy deposits off our coasts. It doesn't seem to bother Democrats that China and Cuba are finalizing plans to drill for oil in these same areas 50 miles from Key West.

While Democrats were in their districts advocating their plans to end gas price-gouging, rein in speculation, pass “use it or lose it” and even call for President Bush to release millions of barrels of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), Republicans were touting polls showing that a healthy majority of Americans now support increased domestic energy production.
That is proving to be a particular concern for Democrats in that any non-suspension-calendar energy vote would be subject to a Republican alternative, almost certainly calling for offshore and Arctic drilling, that would very likely pass.

A major Breakthru in Solar Power is to be announced in Science tomorrow. Been following this research for sometime now. MIT research, sponsored in part by Department of Energy - under President Bush - the new Solar Concentrator Method pushes up Solar conversion by a factor of 40. The production is simple as well and is stated to increase current solar power PV collection up to 50%, thus decreasing overall cost.

The team is obviously optimistic about 3 years to production roll out. Even if it does make it, you're looking at the initial start up for production probably no larger than the largest production facility in the world today, most likely smaller as pilot project startup.
Per year, production might average with improvements 100-200K homes - per year.
This is a great effort by Department of Energy, MIT, NSF, the researchers and engineers. The DOE plan to minimize cost and make solar competitive by 2015 with coal, gas, etc., is on the way.
This is just one university funded research sponsored by DOE Solar Initiative led by President Bush. We can expect more breakthrus in the future, long after Bush has left from these programs with University, Public and Private sectors working together. There have been other major breakthrus as well not mentioned, the most important of which is multi-junction PV research. All of these research projects work together to reduce cost and create a rapid research to production pathway.
Every building in the future can become its own energy source with products like this. Also, any vehicle as well can eventually become solar enabled thru all windows and eventually embedded PV receptors all over the car with radical new paint designs for photoreceptors. But that is the future.
Today, we still need to drill here, drill now in order to get us thru to the transition in the next 20-30 years. Plus we need to eliminate billions in funds to nations that are hostile to the West and keep tyrants in the terrorist business, along with Russian efforts as well.
Without all their oil funding, they cannot buy weapons or afford to train more terrorist, or put up lunatic radical madrassas around the world to brainwash children.
And the lame attempts by Democrats to sue OPEC will not help either Nancy.
It will only make the world angry at America... sniff, sniff, whine, whine wittle Democrats making other nations mad at mean old Democrat sue happy American lawyers.

Read this and be enraged --- I just found out, the Alaska pipeline runs at between 30-50% capacity daily because there is not enough Prudhoe Bay oil to run it at full capacity. It's about 70 miles to the tract they want to drill in ANWR so they need to lay pipe to connect to the exists Alaska pipeline. The claim is it will take less than 2 years to get that done, it's mostly flat wasteland(protected area) so it's easy going.

ReplyDeleteI hope that new variation in solar capture works in real life. Sometimes between the labratory and the manufacturing plant we find that something is not practical. This looks good, though.
However... up here in the Northland (Minnesota, Dakotas, etc.) we can only really use solar as peaker power. We have so much overcast here, solar as main supply is useless. But when the sun does shine, as in high summer or deep winter, we have our highest energy demands. So, such a high efficiency solar generator would be very useful IMHO.
The trouble with our news system on the right is we should take a national poll on Pelosi's popularity alone so she can finaly see the people think she is a complete failier.
