Do you suppose John Murtha and the democrats will support him?

Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp (his blog is here) comes out of the shadows at The New Republic:
A STATEMENT FROM SCOTT THOMAS BEAUCHAMP:Since this investigation will take a bit of time, let me remind you what MNF-I had to say about the allegations by Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp. This is the statement they sent me the on Tuesday:
As we've noted in this space, some have questioned details that appeared in the Diarist "Shock Troops," published under the pseudonym Scott Thomas. According to Major Kirk Luedeke, a public affairs officer at Forward Operating Base Falcon, a formal military investigation has also been launched into the incidents described in the piece.
Although the article was rigorously edited and fact-checked before it was published, we have decided to go back and, to the extent possible, re-report every detail. This process takes considerable time, as the primary subjects are on another continent, with intermittent access to phones and email. Thus far we've found nothing to disprove the facts in the article; we will release the full results of our search when it is completed.
In the meantime, the author has requested that we publish the statement below. --The EditorsMy Diarist, "Shock Troops," and the two other pieces I wrote for the New Republic have stirred more controversy than I could ever have anticipated. They were written under a pseudonym, because I wanted to write honestly about my experiences, without fear of reprisal. Unfortunately, my pseudonym has caused confusion. And there seems to be one major way in which I can clarify the debate over my pieces: I'm willing to stand by the entirety of my articles for the New Republic using my real name.I am Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp, (Photo from his My Space page via Michelle Malkin) a member of Alpha Company, 1/18 Infantry, Second Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division.
My pieces were always intended to provide my discreet view of the war; they were never intended as a reflection of the entire U.S. Military. I wanted Americans to have one soldier's view of events in Iraq.
It's been maddening, to say the least, to see the plausibility of events that I witnessed questioned by people who have never served in Iraq. I was initially reluctant to take the time out of my already insane schedule fighting an actual war in order to play some role in an ideological battle that I never wanted to join. That being said, my character, my experiences, and those of my comrades in arms have been called into question, and I believe that it is important to stand by my writing under my real name.
--Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp
"We are aware of what was written under a pseudonym. Its writer is unknown asAnd, Major Ludeke at FOB Falcon reported this on Private Beauchamp's story about a desecrated mass grave:
are his motives. We hold soldiers to the highest standards and the
allegations made are completely inconsistent with those expectations. In the absence of any credible information or independent corroboration, we presently have no reason to believe it."
V/r
MAJ Alston
I can tell you unequivocally: there was NO mass grave discovered in this area of operations in conjunction with the building of a coalition outpost anytime in the past 12 months. None. Zero. Zip.Private Beauchamp is in a heap of trouble!
And, so is The New Republic for publishing such obviously bogus stories.
The Weekly Standard Blog has been leading the efforts to get to the truth behind these stories by Beauchamp.
HotAir has more.
Powerline thinks this controversy will be resolved in short order.
Op-For adds this and more:
So no doubt wheels are turning over in the 1/18's command staff right now. Wouldn't be surprised if Private Beauchamp was standing tall in front of the man at this very moment, under the scruntity of an aggressively curious CO who is demanding details down to the letter about each of his diary entries.Blackfive has a must read.
Expect a press release soon. The Army is going to move quick on this, now that they have a face to the name.
Either way, today is going to be a very bad day for Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp.
Michelle Malkin is piling on.

Maybe we could help Pvt. Beauchamp's journalism career by sending him some money. I'll send $300...in $3 dollar bills.
ReplyDeleteIf nothing else, this boy could conceivably have a bright future with the New York Times...
ReplyDeleteSounds like the guy went to the John Kerry school of how to use your service time to the best advantage. I wonder if he's taking videos too?
ReplyDelete"That being said, my character, my experiences, and those of my comrades in arms have been called into question" -Scott B.
ReplyDeleteAs was pointed out on another 'blog, I thought calling into question the character of his comrades in arms was the whole point of his story in the first place. Interesting that he now bemoans it. I believe that's called 'playing the victim card'.
i checked army knowledge online.. this guy has an account so he does exsist.
ReplyDeleteThis head case was writing "atrocity" stories before he deployed.
ReplyDeleteHe decided to become a famous writer using such imagery before he deployed.
He enlisted in late 2005 and he's whining he was sent to a war zone? GMAFB. Psycho-wuss.
I still think the greater issue here is not whether Beachamp exists or are his stories true of false but what can be done to New Republic / Foer for runnng these stories hoping to sell a few more magazines and help turn American public against the war even though our troops will pay for it with their blood. If not technically and legally aiding the enemy in time of war, it is certainly that in fact. If there are any readers here (which there probably are not)that subscribe or advertise in New Republic to cancel their subscriptions or advertising.

ReplyDeleteUh yeah, that would be the NRO blog, where Jonah and Steyn are busy making fools of themselves. What he means by "character" is that people like you called him a liar, and now he's standing up publicly beside his claims. To expect someone who has been dispariging the veracity of his claims to read that honestly is a bit much I know, but one can hope right?

Oh yeah, okay...the truth of his claims is not at issue...even though people here and elsewhere have been rapidly typing in futile efforts to attack the truth of those claims. Okay.
My own fervant hope is that Pvt Beauchamp could someday put a boot in some of yall's collective chicken-hawk asses, but that is too much to dare to dream.
dcm:
ReplyDeleteWake up!
1. The american public is already against the war.
2. No no reads TNr anyway.

I can apply an IV, treat sucking chest wounds, apply dressings, perform rescue breathing, check for internal bleeding by swiping my hand across your anus, and many other things that arent even appropriate for a family blog...I'll be awarded a certificate and the warm fuzzy sense of accomplishment that accompanies the conclusion of every combat first aid activity i participate in.]
[Pray that Germany wins tonight...and if you dont know what I'm talking about then you are obviously not living in Europe with me.

he's probably auditioning for 15 minutes of fame in the next MM killer thriller..
btw anonymous @ 9:18 AM
so does Mother Cindy Sheehan.. :D

So in other words Xanth, first he made the claims, then he went public and said "It's all true." And this means that the burden is on those who question his truthfulness to prove that what he says is NOT true? I'll give my case to someone else there, Lionel Hutz. Chicken hawk, wow that's original.

[Some historians have speculated that a wider reading prior to Hitler's rise to power (or at least prior to the outbreak of World War II) might have alerted the world to the dangers Hitler would pose to peace in Europe and to the Holocaust that he would pursue. An abridged English translation was produced before World War II.
However, the publisher removed some of the more anti-Semitic and militaristic statements. The publication of this version caused Alan Cranston, who was an American reporter for UPI in Germany (and later senator from California), to publish his own abridged and annotated translation.]

an ex "Party No More" registered Democrat, voted for Bush, not a Republican here.. trust me, i know wither thou comest from..
here's an opinion from someone inside your mental matrix..
excerpt:
["The Democrats seem more interested in hurting the Republicans than in ending the war. They come up with things that seem designed to be embarrassing to vote against rather than move to actually bring an end to the war in Iraq.]

Okay all-caps junior high school dissident, back to the classroom, please put down your Anti-Flag CD and pay attention, child:
ReplyDeleteWhen expressing the phrase "you are..." as in "You are crazy" we use what's called a contraction. In this case we would say "You're crazy" since "Your" is a possessive.
We also salute using the word "Heil" whereas "hiel" would be used to refer to perhaps the poet Emmanuel Hiel?
Oh yeah and you are a child molester who sells heroin to toddlers. Now the burden is on you to prove that you are not.

ReplyDeleteill return to america an author
Wednesday, April 26, 2006
bavarian stories in some sort of rounded metaphysical order...personality death stories intersecting with poesy home memory reflections. You begin with a place and an action and let it carry in every direction till the words are vibrating on the page, dripping in thick robust delapidated barnhouses of adjectives and pronouns...no time for the subtle gray faced calculations of a PERFORMED intimacy...go...but remember what Kerouac forgot: revision is spontaneous also.
a brief coming back to america introduction, stories about soldiers, prositutes, innocent students rendered featherless by dark rivets of experience and the decadence of human pursuits in every vein...and then there's the veins...follow 'em.
Cut your wrist let it bleed onto the paper in unique soulpatterns of mindthoughts. after the coming back to america introduction theres sgt. Leclaire with his dick blown off and the house 12 working girl with her stuff blown out in the other direction and both lost darkeyes brooding on prisonfleshes of human animal bodies the bridge across being only that connection spark instant also lost as quickly. a revery of mothertalk and love looks back in the soft american night. the awol in bamberg lying to make himself into someone who can actually touch another persons lips to his heart to feel. a grandma memeory of cracked heavy crystal balls and smoke serpitine around stacks of tarot cards. the smell of the antiseptic physical therapy room filled with limbless veterans, some missing half a face, and one wearing a god bless america t-shirt...of course this was all before the war, but the war is closer here and an everlengthening shadow over my half closed eyes...but this is all in our time, here and coming back to america...
good grief, typical fiberal, no foresight.. whatever gave him the idea he'd be able to pull his charade off is beyond my comprehension..

The one thing that I find striking about Beauchump is his overinflated sense of his intellect. He fancies himself a writer and yet he absolutely positively sucks at it. He's horrible. It's like he's the one guy in his social circle who ever read a book that was assigned for summer reading in high school and became convinced he's literati. He name drops people from the canon and peppers his amateurish writing with references to middlebrow celebrity literary figures and thus thinks he's an "intellectual." Throw in a dose of knee-jerk boilerplate "progressive" attitudes and wow even more impressive. People like this are so lame, so tired, and so full of themselves. Bill Maher comes to mind.
ReplyDeletesniveling cowardice syndrome?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous whined: "juandos:if nothing else you should all be ashamed of yourself."...
Hmmm, ashamed of what Anonymous?
Anonymous continues: "but if you had any shame or common sense you wouldn't be repuglican now would you"
Well I'm not a repug old slut, I'm a conservative and consider seditious, sniveling cowards like you (and the New York Times' Pinch the pansey) a danger to this country and its people...
Back to the topic at hand, The New Republic and this Scott Thomas Beauchamp clown...
One would think that if the TNR weren't so liberally riddled with libtards they would've learned from their Steven Glass experience ...
You might want to make sure that Scott Thomas' claims are false before beheading the messenger.
ReplyDeleteNobody thinks that the question regarding whether these things actually happened is more important than the fact that Thomas has a MySpace page and that he "smirks"?
Let's determine that he was lying, then we can take him apart. I can wait that long.

ReplyDeletetoo bad STB, not unlike the NYT & other fiberal bias media outlets (if it bleeds, it leads), chose to write descernabley self-delusional grotesque stories (imho, the result of an over-active gothic orientated imagination) regarding his band of brothers vs the many truly courageous, honorable & selfless acts they perform day to day that go undected by the aforementioned..
ps: as far as patience goes.. imho, STB's head should be examined & it determined whether or not he needs to be a patient..
btw.. one doesn't let that crap go unchallenged.. our troops are faced with enough shit from the Dems, the MSM, & AQ / insurgents.. our troops defend US, and i don't give a bats guano what you or anyone else "feels" about defending them against some freakin' rock - poetry wanna be star author..
whether or not you or anyone else may be able to wait that long "to tear him apart" is also not important..
bottom line:
we are not going to stand by & let the anti-Bush / Iraq Liberationist Dhimmi Dems, fake but accurate MSM, etc.. "tear out troops apart" in the interim.. just because they "feel" like it!!

Anyone who has worn the uniform should give him some credit; those who haven't should consider doing so--recruiters are standing by.
ReplyDeleteMilitary justice is generally swiftest when it is the most certain. The stonewalling and slow (in-)action on the Army's part suggest he has done nothing wrong. Consider a friend's plight for doing the right thing:
