Europa 21 sends this hopeful sign from Europe:
A pro-Palestinian conference is scheduled for the last days of August at the European Parliament. The organizer is the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People famous for its ant-Israeli attitude. Members of that group are i.e. Afghanistan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Tunisia and Turkey.Hat Tip Aleks
The topic of the conferece is “Human rights violation by Israel military”. However there are scheduled working groups on “how to increase the resistance against Israel military”. The Israeli Foreign Office has submitted the protest against the conference. President of Knesset, Dalia Itzik, sent a letter to the President of EP, Hans-Gert Poettering. There is no official answer yet.
In the meantime the group of Polish MEPs deriving from all main political parties declared to boycott the conference and help to call off the event.
Bronisław Geremek (pictured-ALDE): “I will not take part in this conference. I saw the materials prepared by the organizers. Although there is no official statement that Israel must be pushed down to the sea there, the choice of subjects and the attitude towards the problems shows that it will be biased, conflict generating conference. Actually we can call it anti-Israeli.”
Boguslaw Sonik (EPP-ED): “There is not the first such initiative. Pro-Palestinian lobby is very active here. If in fact, the conference will become propagandist, Israelis can count on Poles.”
Konrad Szymański (UEN): “Israel’s Objections are fully justified. UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People is a platform for activity of various extremists. According to the most of them Israel should disappear. I am astonished that European Parliament allowed such activity to be placed in its building. If there is any activity against the conference i.e petition signed by MEPs, I will be very glad to support it.”
Poland knows first hand what ant-Semitic totalitarians can do if the world appeases and encourages them. They have not forgotten.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the rest of Europe has and the Europeans are going to learn a harsh lesson that they should have learned 60 years ago. Too bad most of them will not live long enough to make use of the lessons they should ahve learned. They will be lucky if they get gassed. Gas is not the Islamofascists style-beheading is.
Thank you, Poland! Again you put shame upon Europe and remain the most steadfast in your beliefs holding to what is *right*. Why we do not closely embrace Poland as an good Ally is beyond me... I would much rather have honest and hard working Poles oversee our ports than anyone from Abu Dhabi. And likewise on many similar matters...
ReplyDeleteGiven the center of Iraq to hold during hard times after the Invasion they held it and won trust. They continue on supporting what is right even when it costs politically to do so. The cost of keeping civilization and its loss are well known there... and that is what we need for the future, people telling what it takes to *keep* civilization going.
The first two comments are rightiously on target...
ReplyDeleteWhat can one add but again repeating a jacksonian's, "Thank you, Poland!"...

This is the second time I have read an post on Poland tonight. The first was the Medical assistance being given in Iraq by Poles as part of the Coorlitian (sp) and this one. They certainly do remember what happened and Auchwitz is a constant reminder, just outside of Krakow. That nation doesn't even get special dispensation from the US on Visa Applications here. They certainly know right from wrong.....and act on it.....I ramble.....stay well....
ReplyDeleteIsn't this disgraceful. The European Parliament should never have accepted the conference to be held in its premises. Only Poland has objected and supreme irony has to be congratulated ... for what should be normal behaviour. Mr Sarkozy's France has said nothing. The Portuguese Presidency has said nothing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteI am very proud of Poland, and I agree with and support these Polish leaders' resistance to anti-Semitism.

You have to get used to the fact that people see Israel for what it is: a violent and arrogant state conducting human rights' violations. The rest of the world knows it and jewish people shouldn't feel attacked as a group because if any other state would be doing the same thing, people would revolt as well (even though I obviously admit that there are anti-semitic driven actions from some people). The difference here is that the US covers your back like a bad father that makes up excuses for a spoiled child that beats up smaller children and takes away their lunch money.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Mr. Geremek will hold his word and won't attend this conference :)
