Daniel Diker from the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA) took time to explain the necessary borders that Israel must maintain in order to defend itself from the growing Islamic threat during a meeting held in Jerusalem this past week.
Here is the abbreviated version from Diker on Israel's critical border issue:
Daniel Diker and the JCPA just released a current study on the Iranian threat on the West.
Iran, Hizbullah, Hamas and the Global Jihad: A New Conflict Paradigm for the West
(The full report can be downloaded at the JCPA website)
This study further describes the premise that Diker makes above- that Israel cannot allow the West Bank to become a radical Islamic stronghold like Gaza after the Israeli withdrawal. This would be a suicidal move for Israel and put the country in great danger:
Iran is more determined than ever to achieve regional hegemony in the Middle East and is fueling regional instability across the entire area. Moreover, radical Sunni militancy, led by al-Qaeda, has transferred many of its main centers of operation to the Middle East after the fall of the Taliban regime. With the rise of both Sunni and Shiite terrorist organizations around Israel, and the utility of classical deterrence limited, the Middle East has become a more dangerous region. Under such conditions, were Israel pressured to concede the Jordan Valley, for example, it would likely expose itself to a steep increase in infiltration to the strategic West Bank, including weapons and volunteers, and thus face the same experience it had with the Philadelphi corridor after the Gaza pullout. It is clear that if Israeli leaders were forced to cede territory in the West Bank to the Palestinians at this time that this would allow for the creation of an East Hamastan. This would not only threaten Israel but would threaten moderate regional Arab states like Jordan, as well.
Amazing! Another homesick American solves the Arab-Israeli conflict in under 90 seconds! Putting his absurd assumptions about nature of the “Palestinians” aside, let’s cut to the chase.
ReplyDeleteHow long is Diker, the Powerline boys, Dore Gold, Oren, Sharansky, etc, etc, and all of Israel’s USA “friends,” willing to wait before abandoning the idea of a mini-state, two-state or any new Arab state in the “disputed territories and working on an idea never tried before - complete and permanent annexation?
I’ll make it easy to answer the question. You can express it in terms of years, number of new wars, number of Jewish dead, sq. miles of additional Israeli land made de facto uninhabitable by contiguous regions occupied by terrorists, number of “Palestinian moderates” that - to your surprise - take everything we give them and turn it against Israel.
Go ahead. Take your pick and get back to me. I’d really like to know your tolerance for other people’s - Jewish people’s - suffering.
In the vein of that presentation about defensible borders, perhaps the United States should "share" Mexico with the Mexicans and "allow" them to set up a mini-sovereign state down there. For their own good of course, and also to keep America safe. I mean, who can argue with defensible borders? It's a Natural Right, right?
ReplyDeleteI will post this in my blog. But wat is the line on southamerica.Maybe I must to read the full report.

ReplyDeleteyour Mexico analogy would be accurate only if Mexico had been lobbing bombs and rockets into every town in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California for the past 50 years... and that buses and restaurants in those states had been constantly destroyed by suicide bombers from Chihuahua or Sonora...
Israel's necessary borders are called such because it is demonstrable that they will be constantly attacked by murderers and religious fanatics from any territory they can lever away from the Israelis.. and if they manage to get high ground, narrow cuts, geographic advantage, then Israel won't be able to survive in the long term.
As a Texan, I'm glad Mexico is a largely peaceful neighbour (with a drug problem).. if I had neighbours like Israel does, I'd be worried about them getting closer to my town too...
Two state solution...Israel and Jordan? Abandon the concept of "Palestine" and work on economic development of Jordan spanning both sides of the Jordan River. Focus on improve living conditions for the average Arab living in this part of the world.
ReplyDeleteImpatient American solution. Just strip mine the West Bank and Gaza, leaving an uninhabitable wasteland as a buffer zone around Israel.
Mexico analogy would apply if the US were to usurp what is not rightfully theirs (by annexing a large part of Mexico). Apply that same logic to China with Tibet, Kashmir with India/Pakistan and hundreds of other nation going after "defensible borders". Stop squatting on Palestinian land and you will see how that changes the whole security situation.
