The US is holding onto a copy of the latest Bin Laden tape that will be released today.
CBS reported:
(CBS/AP) Officials tell CBS News that the U.S. government has obtained a copy of a new Osama bin Laden video. The tape is being analyzed to determine its authenticity.Counterterrorism Blog is keeping current on the story.
Al Qaeda's media arm had previously announced a new bin Laden video would be released ahead of the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The video, if authentic, would be the first video from the terror chief in nearly three years.
Earlier Thursday,the White House said that any new video from bin Laden would serve to highlight threats the West faces. Analysts noted that al Qaeda tends to mark the Sept. 11 anniversary with a slew of messages, and the Department of Homeland Security said it had no credible information warning of an imminent threat to the United States.
U.S. intelligence agencies will run a voice analysis and study the al Qaeda leader's physical appearance, reports CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer, traveling with President Bush in Australia. They'll also watch for any verbal or visual signals to followers.
HotAir says the White House has a copy of the tape.
ISLAMISTS WEBSITES ARE SHUTTING DOWN reported the BBC:
The Associated Press news agency reported on Friday that all the militant websites that usually carry al-Qaeda statements had become inaccessible in an unprecedented shutdown.Red Alerts reported this strange development yesterday.
It quoted a terrorism expert as saying al-Qaeda might be trying to plug the leak of the video. The expert said the US was unlikely to have the technology or desire to cause the closures.

According to the transcript, which can be viewed by clicking here, bin Laden opens with "praise to Allah" and his "law of retaliation" -- "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and the killer is killed."
Bin Laden also spoke to the ongoing situation in Iraq throughout the tape, heavily criticizing the Bush administration.
He says to the American people, "you made one of your greatest mistakes, in that you neither brought to account nor punished those who waged this war, not even the most violent of its murderers, [former Defense Secretary Donald] Rumsfeld…"
"You permitted Bush to complete his first term, and stranger still, chose him for a second term, which gave him a clear mandate from you -- with your full knowledge and consent -- to continue to murder our people in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then you claim to be innocent! The innocence of yours is like my innocence of the blood of your sons on the 11th -- were I to claim such a thing."
Bin Laden says President Bush's words echo "neoconservatives like Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Richard Perle."
"People of America: the world is following your news in regards to your invasion of Iraq, for people have recently come to know that, after several years of tragedies of this war, the vast majority of you want it stopped. Thus, you elected the Democratic Party for this purpose, but the Democrats haven't made a move worth mentioning. On the contrary, they continue to agree to the spending of tens of billions to continue the killing and war there."
The transcript indicates that bin Laden refers to statements from U.S. soldiers in Iraq, from an interview taped by a British journalist. Portions of the interview aired in a July report on ABC News.

That droopy eye is interesting. I noticed it, too, though it could be a photo effect. None of the official sources have noted anything about speaking problems so I suppose a stroke is out. Hey OBL! nothing but words, Actions are what count, I seen President Bush in Iraq the other day and you are making threats from a hole in the ground for the last six years. A google search on "It quoted a terrorism expert as saying al-Qaeda might be trying to plug the leak of the video." turns up only a single reference to GatewayPundit. Did you save the original article? That ostensible alteration, and the absence of anything from the AP as well seems strange, if not ominous. I've only done the one search so far, and will continue trying to see if I can come up with something elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteOK, found references to the shutdown, crediting the AP, at Fox News and Al Jazeera -- so I guess the bases are pretty well covered. I've archived the pages, though, just in case.
ReplyDeleteAll that was missing from the laundry list of things to really bring back memories was the Islamic portion... the rest, chapter and verse, could have been ended a couple of decades ago with: "Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains."

Right on cue, Al Qaeda releases another video, precisely when Bush/Cheney and cohorts need to scare congress into towing the neo-con line on the war. How many times must this occur before the corporate media outlets start asking some hard and pointed questions. This is much more important than Larry Craig's follies. How many more unlikely coincidences are necessary before more people discern a strong pattern in the noise?
