Al-Qaeda Video Calls For Jihadist Nuke Attack ...Update: A Prank?

UPDATE: The Jawa Report has much more on the video including an odd set of digits at the end of the video:

2B-68-aP-7m-(9)
The video also quotes Osama's ranting against the Mohammad cartoons as justification to nuke the West.
Rusty says the code may mean a WMD attack in September.

This screen shot taken from the militant Islamic Internet forum El-Ekhlas on May 16, 2008 shows an old photo of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden with the caption, "A Message to the Peoples of the West, From Sheik Osama bin Laden". (CBS News)

Al-Qaeda released a new video calling for a nuke attack or a WMD attack on America.
AKI and ROP reported:

A new video called "Nuclear Terrorism" has been posted on the worldwide web calling for jihadists to use nuclear or chemical weapons to strike the west.

A simple jihadi propaganda video or a dangerous message to a sleeper cell in the west? That is the question raised by the video and no-one has yet claimed responsibility for it.

"Strike civilians in the west without mercy using weapons of mass destruction" is one of the calls made in the 39-minute video.

The question now being asked is whether the video is presenting a coded message or signalling an imminent terrorist attack.

Before the video was posted on the Arab internet forum Ekhlas a banner headline appeared on the website that said: "Pray, pray, Allah is great. America is destroyed by a fatal jihadist nuclear strike."

Clicking on the banner gives the viewer access to a documentary which shows diverse images - from al-Qaeda speeches to western documentaries and other Islamist videos.

The objective appears to be to incite followers of al-Qaeda to use weapons of mass destruction to strike the west, but there may be more to it.

The video opens with two verses of the Koran that emphasise "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". It then says "Fight them until there is no more persecution and Allah is the only object of worship. If they desist, there will be no hostility, except against those who are dishonest."
al-Ikhlas jihadi forum [http://ekhlas.com/forum] posted an online book laying out Al-Qaeda's military strategy through 2020 in March 2005.

UPDATE 2: Counterterrorism Blog thinks the story is most likely a hoax.

  1. Well if a nuke WMD does explode in this country we can thank the party of the Seditious & Sleazy for their interference with homeland security...

don't think this is the first time we've heard about this type of threat from AQ.. however, it has been quite awhile since they managed to strike on US soil.. so i wouldn't doubt something is in the works.. i'm just hoping & praying it's not a diversional tactic being used as cover for another plan they've had in the works for years now.. :(

It is natural for talking heads to postulate and politicians to prevaricate. But return for a moment to the days and weeks following 9/11.

Look at the terrible personal and financial hit that we took from what was a limited event, considering that the attacks could have been part of a more extensive orchestration.

Reflect on typical Friday rush hour traffic during an ice storm or heavy thunderstorms.

Now imagine what it would be like if these same people were fleeing a major metro area for thier lives with everything they could carry after a relatively crude and easy to fabricate so called dirty weapon event.

This danger is far greater than our reputation or whether certain folks around the world like us or not.

Our vulnerability in this type of situation involves a complete breakdown of social order.

In my humble opinion the Bush Administration has been effective in balancing the Liberty that defines who we are with the horrid consequences of trivializing the threat.

So I'm sorry but my first concern does not involve assuring Geneva Convention protections for these animals.

This is why we must not allow this poser and his cadre anywhere near the White House.

    BG,

Sorry, maybe I'm too much of an amateur, but I didn't know that I should have supplied a link for my comment.

I think Condi Rice has gone down a much different path than Bush had planned on.

Also, I'm not sure why you typed the word "unconditionally" in your reply to my comment. I was simply quoting Padre Steve's comment.

sorry i didn't see all that, my crystal ball is cracked.. :D

and albeit others in the Sate Dept. are off kilter, Condi & Bush are on the same wave-length..

fact is: Bush as well as many other leaders would "talk" to Iran if it was in compliance with UN resolutions [iow: conditionally]..

however, there is & has been plenty of diplomatic "talking" going on with Iran for years..
