Phony Hero Blasts Real Hero

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), who lied about his military service, blasted Senator John McCain (R-AZ), a former POW and war hero, today.

Flopping Aces reported on Harkin's attack on McCain and the military.

Senator Harkin is one of several Democratic senators who protested his country at war in Vietnam and Iraq.

Antiwar website Ivan's Place reported this on Senator Tom Harkin, D-Iowa-- In 1970 Harkin was a congressional aide who helped expose the infamous "tiger cages," tiny cubicles used to hold, entire Vietnamese families suspected of being Viet Cong sympathizers. Harkin still represents Iowa in the Senate.

UPDATE: Glenn Reynolds wrote much more on Harkin back in 2004.

UPDATE 2: The phony hero is a disgusting liar too.
Harkin said there was no bloodbath after the US left Vietnam. (Video)

Yeah, it sucks having this guy as one of my senators. Unfortunately, he is one of those guys who likely has a senate seat for life. I can't see him ever being beaten in an election... especially with Iowa trending left.

  2. Ahhh yes, another faux war hero from the party of the Copperheads yesterday and today...

I mean one would've thought Harkin had been shamed enough with the following expose back in Aug. of '04 when commenting about Dick Cheney...

Then again Harkin sticks foot deep in mouth when he whines about Rush Limbaugh Oct. of '07...

Is it possible these libtards have had the shame reflex sugically extracted from themselves somehow?

Harkin is a very tough politician. He only runs with the Democrat line though. He seems to read word for word Pelosi/Reid/Dean writings. Never thinks for himself. His Senate seat is very secure. Once you get elected here you pretty much have a job for life. So sad.

He didn't really "blast" McCain, though. All he was saying is that looking at everything through a military-tinted lens is not necessarily the best quality for a statesman, and that McCain tended to look through those lens as a result of his lifetime of military service.

He's certainly not claiming to be a war hero himself or disparaging McCain's service, he's only saying, very sensibly, that it can be dangerous if someone sees the world through only in military terms. Is he wrong about this?

    Anon @ 10:09 PM..

    [Is he wrong about this?]

simple.. just ask yourself who McCain has sided with more often and on what issues in the past few years.. the answer should come to you [hint: McCain: Fiengold/ Kennedy/ Edwards/ gang of 14, etc]..

hence, seems to me it's Harkin who cannot see McCain through any other lens than militaristic.. because he's certainly not being intellectually honest, so maybe he's just jealous..

well we are in a GLOBAL WAR whether
the Dems want to admit it or not..

actually, the war has been going on for quite some time.. but it started in earnest in 1996 with bin Laden's first fatwa against US..

they did not listen, they're not listening still, perhaps they never will..

Hey anon @ 10:09 PM, I hold the title to the Eads Bridge, do you want to buy it?

I mean if you think Harkin was just making an innocent observation well I think this bridge is for you...

Yes, because "looking at everything through a military-tinted lens" is so horrible.

Those crazy grunts, worrying about things like honor, responsibility, competence, and courage; what were they thinking!?

Whoops. Sorry. I forgot that military "lifers" are brainwashed fools, uneducated idiots ("halp us, jon cary!") or PTSD psychos who love to blow up the neighborhood.

Thanks for the advertisement (link to my website with Tom Harkin photo).

Comments welcome, of course, but I won't bother to get embroiled in tit-for-tat matches here. Send me an e-mail from my website.
