Townhall is a very respected conservative news organization with plenty of talented writers.
But, Townhall ought to be ashamed of publishing this trash today!
Not even Obama and the Democrats stooped this low...
Pat Buchanan bashed President Bush and praised Hitler at Town Hall in a weird take on Bush's Knesset speech.
Buchanan blames Poland(?) for World War II:
Bush Plays the Hitler CardObviously, Buchanan believes Hitler's "peaceful" takeover of the Czech nation was a good thing.
Addressing the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel's birth, Bush said those who say we should negotiate with Iran or Hamas are like the fools who said we should negotiate with Adolf Hitler.
"As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared, 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement. ..."
Again, Bush has made a hash of history.
Appeasement is the name given to what Neville Chamberlain did at Munich in September 1938. Rather than fight Germany in another great war -- to keep 3.5 million Germans under a Czech rule they despised -- he agreed to their peaceful transfer to German rule. With these Germans went the lands their ancestors had lived upon for centuries, German Bohemia, or the Sudetenland.
Chamberlain's negotiated deal with Hitler averted a European war -- at the expense of the Czech nation. That was appeasement.
German tanks, however, did not roll into Poland until a year later, Sept. 1, 1939. Why did the tanks roll? Because Poland refused to negotiate over Danzig, a Baltic port of 350,000 that was 95 percent German and had been taken from Germany at the Paris peace conference of 1919, in violation of Wilson's 14 Points and his principle of self-determination.
Hitler had not wanted war with Poland. He had wanted an alliance with Poland in his anti-Comintern pact against Joseph Stalin.
That is pretty twisted.
There's much more.
Earlier this year, Buchanan's American Conservative played the Nazi card against Rudy Giuliani and colored him in as a storm trooper on the cover:

Charles Johnson wrote more on this stunt by Pat Buchanan at the time.
Just whose side is Pat on? I though he was a Republican?? Go figure.
ReplyDeleteBuchanan hasn't been a Republican since he and his "peasants with pitchforks" were rejected by the Republican Party in 1196. I'm not convinced he's a conservative any more, either. He's definitely a populist, but with a fascist bent. Sort of a warped Ralph Nader (if that's not too mind-bending).
ReplyDeleteWhoops, since *1996*, although if you listen to him you might think it was still 1196.

I never would have dreamed that Buchanan could sink any lower but this column takes the cake. He blames *Poland* for starting WWII!!! POLAND!!!!!!!!!! Just unbelievable. This goes way beyond his usual Jew-baiting into an inescapable sinkhole of rabid pro-Nazi propaganda.
ReplyDeleteone reason idiots like buchanan think crap like this is because idiots like buchanan think hitler was anti-socialist.
ReplyDeletethis is false.
hitler was anti INTERNATIONAL socialism. he opposed marx and lenin and stalin, not socialism.
hitler and nazism were socialist - just national socialism, or race-based socialism.
buchanan is not only defending a genocidal racist.
which is bad enough.
buchanan is defending a socialist.
I've followed Buchanan since he was a Nixon speech writer and I was in my early 20s. He's always had some good things to say, but his views have always been tainted by his anti-Semitism and a severe case of isolationism.
ReplyDeleteLike the batty old uncle the family wants to disown, he purports to speak for conservatives and gives the socialist party a bat to cudgel us with while embarrassing us. He won't go away, but Townhall should not be providing him a platform.
Of course Charles Johnson has done more than his share of name calling, too. I pretty much lost interest in his views after he attacked several bloggers with bogus charges of "white supremacy" sympathy, which is a very damning charge.
ReplyDeletePat Buchanan has been nuts for a very, very long time.
ReplyDeletePat Buchanan also listens to Rammstein. Aryo-Conservative. Pathetic.
