For decades Democrats have set up "No Zones" where they will not allow drilling or development:

(Republican Senator Craig put together this map.)
As Americans pay more for gas than ever under this Congress--
Democrats continue to vote against drilling and oil exploration.
Over the past 30 years:
Democrats have blocked the development of new sources of petroleum.
Democrats have blocked drilling in ANWR.
Democrats have blocked drilling off the coast of Florida.
Democrats have blocked drilling off of the east coast.
Democrats have blocked drilling off of the west coast.
Democrats have blocked drilling off the Alaskan coast.
Democrats have blocked building oil refineries.
Democrats have blocked clean nuclear energy production.
Democrats have blocked clean coal production.
67% of Americans support offshore- 64% say it will lower gas prices.
Rasmussen reported:
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey—conducted before McCain announced his intentions on the issue--finds that 67% of voters believe that drilling should be allowed off the coasts of California, Florida and other states. Only 18% disagree and 15% are undecided. Conservative and moderate voters strongly support this approach, while liberals are more evenly divided (46% of liberals favor drilling, 37% oppose).Barack Obama opposes drilling for oil.
Sixty-four percent (64%) of voters believe it is at least somewhat likely that gas prices will go down if offshore oil drilling is allowed, although 27% don’t believe it. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of conservatives say offshore drilling is at least somewhat likely to drive prices down. That view is shared by 57% of moderates and 50% of liberal voters.
In related news... Al Gore’s home consumed 10% more electricity this year than last.
UPDATE: Fausta explains why, unlike liberal democrats, Brazil is not ashamed of exploiting their reserves.

Why didn't the USA drill during all those years of a Republican in the Whitehouse and a Republican congress?

ReplyDeletelike the Democrats will side with "we the
people"?? in their dreams perhaps, gah!!
but irl they find oil crunching way too lucrative a benefit to their off shore bank accounts, not to mention an invaluable tool for promoting their "sky is falling" Global Warming Swindle, which is sure to triple those profits, as it will our taxes..
has anyone been listening to the Obamessiah's faery tales of late?? the more he talks, the more far out they get, what is he on (which reminds me, tomorrow is Larry Sinclair's press conference)??

LOL!
ReplyDelete/passes GP the mixed nuts....
Those "educated and intelligent" LLL's and Democrats and their Marxist and Islamofascist allies have always misunderestimated George W. Bush. And every time they have lost.
Tomorrow President Bush will be placing in the spotlight firmly on the defining issue of the campaign.
This is going to be like taking a broom handle to a Hornet's nest and whacking it a couple of times. It will be fun to watch the MSM and Democrats run around shrieking as they get stung by this one. They are going to go through all sorts of contortions trying to spin this into "we can not drill because of the childrennnnn" and make people agree with them when they are looking at $5/gal for gas and the cost of everything else going through the roof.
It will be interesting to watch them try to make this into a racial issue, too. That does seem to be their M.O. for B.O.-if you do not blindly support the Democrats and the Obamamessiah you are a racist redneck moron.
As to Algore's energy usage...
I am not surprised. The man is a greedy pig. The only reason he is kissing the Obamamessiah's butt is because he expects to make billions off policies the Democrats want to institute.
memo to anonatard:
A very weak attempt at spinning this, tard. Here is a handy chart for you.
Because by the time the oil embargo ended the gulf states and OPEC realized that they had almost killed off their golden goose. They also learned that if the prices got too high that the US would drop demand for oil through conservation and drill for it's own oil. They know that the US has bigger reserves then they do and the last thing they wanted was for the US to quit buying oil from them. So the price of oil fell like a rock.
Of course you would not understand that because like all LLL's you do not have the first clue about economics.
because in 1998 Bill Clinton signed all kinds of orders forbidding drilling.
ReplyDelete"Why didn't the USA drill during all those years of a Republican in the Whitehouse and a Republican congress?"
ReplyDeleteDuh, because they never had the 60 votes in the Senate necessary to break a filibuster. Or maybe you already knew that and are just pretending to be stupid?

ReplyDeleteTimeline: History of ANWR
[— 1960: President Eisenhower (search) declares that 8.9 million acres of tundra and mountains in the northeastern corner of Alaska be set aside as a protected wildlife refuge.
— 1980: Congress expands the refuge to 19 million acres and declares part of it wilderness. Also proclaims that potential oil reserves in the refuge's 1.5 million-acre coastal plain be considered for development, but only if Congress specifically authorizes it.
— 1995: Congress, using the budget process, authorizes oil drilling in the coastal plain, but President Clinton (search) vetoes it.
— 2002-2003: The House repeatedly approves drilling in the refuge as part of broad energy legislation, but the Senate rejects drilling, unable to overcome a Democratic-led filibuster.
— November 2004: Republicans gain four seats in the Senate, expanding their majority to 55. ANWR drilling advocates predict the increased GOP strength will help to open the refuge to oil development.
— March 2005: The Senate inserts into the budget a revenue provision that anticipates oil lease sales in ANWR. A Democratic-led attempt to strip the provision from the budget measure falls short 49-51. The budget document becomes a vehicle for authorizing ANWR oil drilling.]
that's all i could find w/o having to delve into a myraid of legislative documents, not to mention finding them if i wanted to..

Start melting the butter, Nahanni.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow ought to be a major democratic meltdown.
Defining issue is right.
Thanks BG for that timeline.
ReplyDeleteOf course, that is something the democrats conveniently forget.
Lowered pump prices are far less important than slowing the flow of our wealth into the coffers of lunatic foreigners.Drill and build, new refineries, new nuke plants, solar furnaces, modern grid,...
ReplyDeleteBuild our way out of the dependency we have on foreigners as we replace foreign with domestic hydro-carbons.
Won't hold my breath waiting for Congress to get out of the way of free enterprise to solve this, just expect more stupid CFL mandates, taxation and demogogery.

Well...surprise, surprise... Fox News reports this morning that Congress chickens out again and postpones any action today. God, how I hate these people!!
ReplyDeleteThey are not getting the message!!!
How can we possibly make it any clearer? Pelosi and Reid need to put their excessive egos on hold and do what's right for the country or let somebody else in there who can! Da*n it!!
