Here is part of the transcript from the interview with Democracy Now from January:
AMY GOODMAN: Ali Abunimah, I wanted to ask you about the candidates in the United States. You’re speaking to us from Chicago, so let’s start with Barack Obama. The stances of the presidential Democratic and Republican candidates on the Israel-Palestine conflict. I can’t remember when in a debate they were asked about the mounting crisis there.
ALI ABUNIMAH: I don’t know if they’ve been asked in a debate, but whenever they have been asked, they have all gone out of their way to express full support for what Israel is doing. Barack Obama is not distinguished from the rest of the pack, except by for how far he has moved to try to appease AIPAC and pro-Israel movements.
I remember, Amy—I knew Barack Obama for many years as my state senator—when he used to attend events in the Palestinian community in Chicago all the time.
I remember personally introducing him onstage in 1999, when we had a major community fundraiser for the community center in Deheisha refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. And that’s just one example of how Barack Obama used to be very comfortable speaking up for and being associated with Palestinian rights and opposing the Israeli occupation. And just yesterday, he apparently sent a letter to Zalmay Khalilzad, the US ambassador at the UN, to urge the US not to allow any resolution to pass criticizing Israel and saying how Israel was forced to impose this barbaric medieval siege on Israel.
None of the other candidates in the mainstream have spoken out for Palestinian rights. The only ones who have taken forceful positions opposing the current US strategy are Dennis Kucinich on the Democratic side and Ron Paul on the Republican side. The mainstream are all perfectly comfortable with the war crimes that Israel is committing, no matter how much they talk about human rights elsewhere.

It will be covered, and Obama must be convincing in showing how his understanding of the Arab-Israeli conflict has in fact changed to be more balanced over these last 10 years. It would behoove him to admit that with increased knowledge his understanding of the situation has changed, and that he disagrees with the revisionist myths that portray Israel as the agressor. And given Carter's endorsement, he should specifically denounce Carter's book. He should go beyond McCain's criticisms of only Hamas and criticize Fatah as well. Obama needs to be clear about this.
ReplyDeleteNeither side will be all that comfortable with Obama--and that might not be a bad thing considering where we find ourselves now. I think Obama will be able to take advantage of a post-general election win window-of-opportunity in the foreign arena that McCain would not have. As a Zionist, I actually find Obama's flawed approach better than McCain's Olmert/Abbas endorsing, Arab coalition approach.
Phew, thank gawd that the Main Stream Media really wants Barry to get elected.

But I do not think they will be getting them, hun. Obama will drag the whole ticket down. The MSM may be in full blown (pun intended) Obamafellation mode but as Obama and his worshipers have learned they are not very effective at burying his dirty laundry. If they were no one would have heard about his hate filled "church" and it's "pastors" that Obama has conveniently thrown under the bus along with any and all who stand in the way of his lust for power.
His worshipers will also find out that trying to use the NSDAP play book will backfire on them, too.
I did have to laugh last night, Obama is such a political whore that he pulled his poor old "typical white" grandmother out from under the bus where he threw her not 3 months ago because he is finally beginning to realize that Paul Begula is right. Too bad that arrogant, egotistical fool does not realize that the damage is done and can not be undone. Especially with the kinds of worshipers he has.

You can expect things like this to come out with increasing frequency in the run up to the convention.
Avalanches start with a couple of snow flakes rolling down hill. Eventually it will begin to bury him and you will see people get tossed under the bus right and left in a vain attempt to save his arrogant, egotistical self. The only one who won't end up under the bus is Michelle and that is because it is apparent that she is the one that wears the pants in that family.
