That's strange?... For some odd reason this news didn't make any headlines in America today. ...Hmm.
However, the Iraqi news service Aswat Al-Iraq reported this historic news:
U.S. President George Bush on Monday announced the withdrawal of 30,000 troops by July, highlighting that any further withdrawal of the troops will depend on the security conditions in the country.More... Ace has the Iraq quote of the day from the AP:
This came during a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in London.
The U.S. president linked any further withdrawal of U.S. forces with the improvement of Iraqi forces’ capabilities and their abilities to bear more responsibilities, as well as the economic improvement and more progress regarding political reconciliation.
“This strategy aims at handing Iraqis more responsibilities,” Bush said.
For his part, Brown denied any impact of the political argument on his government’s stance.
“There is a work to do in Iraq and we will continue our work,” Brown added, stressing that he would not outline any time table for British forces withdrawal.
"Those positive signs are attracting little attention in the United States."UPDATE: Jammie Wearing Fool sees a possible redeployment of troops to Chicago.
The MSM has reduced its coverage of the war by ninety-two percent over the past year, conveniently since the US has been winning the war, and AP blames the lack of public attention on the public itself.
Democracy Project believes Obama is interfering with the US-Iraq agreement that the Democrats do not want because it makes too much sense .
The media must have a "no good news" policy on Iraq! God bless our troops and all the good work they are doing!

ReplyDeleteyes!! whether they like it or not.. all the hard work & progress made in Iraq that hasn't been covered by the Marxist Support Machine is coming to fruition!!
GREAT JOB & WELCOME HOME TROOPS!! (thumbsup)
God Bless Soldiers everywhere for putting THEIR
lives on the line to protect us ALL from terrorism!

Fantastic news. God Bless our Troops! They have done a exceptional job and with little credit in the MSM/Liberals.
ReplyDeleteI am really disappointed in the lack of coverage by the MSM on Bush's European tour. (Even Fox News) There were many great highlights of the trip and tremendous European support for USA's efforts in the World.
Something as important as this news should be reported. But no, we have to hear about Obama and ever time he blows his nose. They should change the name of the MSM to Obama News Network.
The Liberals are not the majority in America but, they own all of the news outlets. Sigh. I dread the freedomless future!
As I read the transcript, it appears that he is referring to the five surge brigades that had already been announced as coming home. I do not read this as "new" troops.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with the general Hooray attitude but this is a bit of PR spinning because those brigades (my cousin's 3rd ID brigade for example) are finishing the end of their 15 month tour and coming home in July. This should really be read as no growth in overall troop number on the ground and possibly a reduction in troop numbers after replacement brigades are on the ground.

ReplyDeleteold or new news, an ipso facto:
NONE OF IT HAS MADE THE Marxist Support Machine's HEADLINES!!

"...Hooray attitude but this is a bit of PR spinning because those brigades (my cousin's 3rd ID brigade for example) are finishing the end of their 15 month tour and coming home in July..."
ReplyDeleteWell, usually when a brigade leaves, another one replaces them.
There was no guarantee these surge forces weren't going to be placed, but it appears they won't, which is a great thing!
The situation in Iraq HAS improved, GREATLY!
The traitorous party of defeat, the Democrats, waived the white flag on Iraq about 2 years too early, leftist losers.
Democrats = Party of DEFEAT
Democrats = Party for our Enemies
Case in point, the worthless DICK Durbin with his "pol pot" and "gulag" comparisions of OUR TROOPS!
These Dems make me sick, they do hate this country, and they do HOPE for defeat in every venue of American foreign policy, the sick traitors that they are.
Troops, may the road rise to meet you on your return home. God Bless Each and Every One.
ReplyDeleteWhat is important is that Europe is hearing victory in Iraq. They're hearing good news and progress.
ReplyDeleteFrance is going into Iraq now. Germany will not be far behind if not already pledging new business. The UN is back. The Arab countries are turning up new business as well.
Iraq is on its way, however fragile to a new society based upon rule of law, no matter how imperfect it is a start. It will take decades of hard work to removed the crooks, cronies and criminals from amongst them.
But the truth is they're having courses now about ethics reform and rule of law for all their law enforcment leaders and in the military as well. Building a just military is one of the foundation building blocks for a just society.
Thankfully, the nation did NOT listen to Obama, Pelosi, or Reid and the Democrats. Thankfully for Iraqis and all Iraqi children, they will have an opportunity now at a brighter future.
The only way it can be destroyed is if the Democrats and Obama decide to destroy this new HOPE AND CHANGE in Iraq.
God Bless our Soldiers all and their families for the tremendoucs sacrifices they've made for others than themselves.
Great news on the troops coming home. While I and everyone else want nothing more for our family members, our friends and country men, you have to take it with a grain of salt given all the previous things Bush has promised but failed to produce. Hopefully though they'll be home soon and we can reward their bravery and commitment to our great country with the parades and honor they deserve.
ReplyDeleteThe Washington Post had the transcript of the news conference by noon, yesterday.

I missed the news yesterday so I figured this was today's headlines. You mean the press totally ignored this? What about Drudge, is he ignoring it too? Figures.
ReplyDeleteWe Won!
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the world apparently doesn’t read the U.S. Mainstream Media.
Or listen to Congressional Democrats, Harry Reid or Code Pink, either.
Companies from around the world are rushing into Iraq to do business, due to the improved security climate in that country. Over a half-billion dollars worth of investments from countries that, in many cases, didn’t support the U.S. in its efforts to improve Iraq’s security.
European and Asian companies are beating their American rivals into Iraq now that security has improved the investment climate, Iraq and U.S. officials say.
“It’s starting to turn … and the people who are getting in on the ground floor are not American,” said Paul Brinkley, the Pentagon official who is leading U.S. efforts to help Iraq rebuild its economy. “It’s ironic.”
Foreign companies, including U.S. investors, have committed to deals worth about $500 million so far this year and Brinkley expects at least $1 billion in foreign investment by the end of the year.
What about China, who hamstrings the USA in the United Nations every chance it gets?
Even China is reaping profits from the U.S. investment in troops and treasure in Iraq.
USA Today goes on to note that “China has also aggressively pursued the Iraqi market, selling machinery to the government and electronic products to consumers.”
Why aren’t we celebrating this good news from Iraq?
Or, the questions should more properly be: Why isn’t the MSM celebrating the good news from Iraq?
Millions of readers know the answer to that question. Or, rather: Millions of MSM ex-readers.
Apparently, that includes the CEOs of many foreign companies.
What a great photo.
