These photos were sent directly from the protest today at the Spanish Steps.
At 8 pm, tonight in Rome there will be another demonstration organized by the Italian newspaper IL RIFORMISTA in the Piazza del Popolo in Rome where thousands of people, including members of parliament are expected.

This is a story worth watching. The Italians are known for their disorganization, and their good, kind hearts.

ReplyDeleteI was in Italy for the Olympics in 2006 and there was plenty of anti-Muslim sentiment. Stickers all over the place with the circle and slash over "Muslim" and stuff like that. This could just be an adjunct of that anti-Muslim feeling.
Remember what EUropeans do best (besides starting wars), hate those different from themselves.
Don't get me wrong, I love Italy, I have family there, but..... don't read too much into one protest and recall that your average Italian really doesn't like the influx of Muslim immigrants.

The flags the protesters are displaying are the old Iranian flag from when the Shah was in power (the lion holding the sword in the middle of the flag is the symbol of the Iranian royal family).
