The AP reported this on the Haditha show trials:
Grayson's attorney, Joseph Casas, said he believed the verdict could influence pending prosecutions.Defend Our Marines has been following the tragic story.
"I think it sets the tone for the overall whirlwind Haditha has been. It's been a botched investigation from the get-go," he said. "I believe in the end all of the so-called Haditha Marines who still have to face trial will be exonerated."
Don't expect this story to make the same headlines like it did for days when the story broke. And, don't expect Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) to apologize anytime soon for calling our US marines "cold-blooded killers."

This demonstrates anew that the US military courts are totally useless and not a meaningful court of justice. They have gone out of their way in the last number of years to show exactly that (remember the pilots on their joy-ride in the Alps killing a bunch of folks in a ski-lift - not guilty because their "maps" were outdated...). It is time to make sure that American soldiers in action are held accountable in international courts. This is the only way to restore some credibility to the process, and not make all of this in to a farce. "Not guilty, of course". My heart is with the families of those butchered in the Iraq massacre.

I think Haditha was an unbelievably sad incident for all involved. Haditha was an anti-American town sheltering people who were hell bent on killing American soldiers that day and they held little regard to the women and children they hid among.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt in my mind that innocents died and I feel nothing but sadnesses but I also feel that the Marines followed the rules of engagement and acted out of the right to defend themselves from further casualties.
Those men, per the constitution they defend, were entitled to a trial by a jury of their peers, men and women who have served, not some kangaroo international court with a political agenda.
My heart and my prayers go out to all involved.
