Martin Luther King, Jr.African American-themed cable network TV One will be showing the DNC Convention because Barack Obama is the candidate this year.
"I Have a Dream Speech"
However, they won't be showing the Republican convention.
Live Feed and Drudge reported:
Given Barack Obama's historic run for the Oval Office, African American-themed cable network TV One plans to break from its usual entertainment programming to provide extensive coverage of the Democratic National Convention in August. You've got to love the incredible double standard.
"This is a huge deal for TV One as it is for the African American community," said Johnathan Rodgers, president and CEO of TV One, a channel in about 40 million homes. "African Americans have fallen in love with Barack Obama’s family, his candidacy … we will be covering the democratic convention all the time."
But John McCain shouldn’t expect the same treatment. The network doesn’t plan any coverage of the Republican convention.
"We are not a news organization," said Rodgers, speaking at the opening session of the semi-annual Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills. "We are a television network designed to celebrate African American achievement."
"My audience is 93% black," Rogers added. "I serve my audience."
"We are not a news organization"...
ReplyDeleteWell at least they have something in common with MSNBC...
"We are a television network designed to celebrate African American achievement"...
Hmmm, I wonder what Dr. Thomas Sowell or Dr. Walter Williams would say about that line?
But hey! Its Johnathan Rodgers' toy, he can play with it how ever he wants...
I have come to detest the term "African American". It was coined a few years back to cover American citizens who share portion of their ancestry with modern Africans. Once someone uses this term in a conversation, everything that is said, everything that is done is filtered through a narrow racial profile. I become the "white guy". Anyone with some African blood suddenly is granted the right to decide what is and is not offensive. It is then that I have lost the power of free speech. If I say anything that the African American deems objectional, then I'm immediately identified as a racist with no right of appeal. None of us within the bounds of the conversation is a person any longer. We all are reduced to racial labels.
ReplyDeletepure bs!
ReplyDeleteif they really want to 'serve' their viewers, then they would show both sides of the issues, and not just shove one side into peoples faces. I guess people of color fought so hard for freedom that they now will accept someone telling them what to think and who to vote for.
I'm angry that people aren't more proactive in their lives that they just swallow whatever crap is given to them.
if people of color want to get ahead, then they need to stop following the democrats and stop being victims and become responsible for their own future.
I have no tolerance for people that label others racist, most people don't even know what real racism is.
THAT'S STILL NOT GOING TO TRICK ME INTO SUPPORTING "THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE"
ReplyDeleteWell at least you have to give them credit for blatantly admitting they are racists and quite biased.
ReplyDeleteI am beginning to agree with many commentators that by the time the black race warriors and the Democrats are done they will have set race relations back a generation.
Martin Luther King was a great man. If he would know that every stinking little race hustler these days is milking him...
ReplyDeleteAnd I do agree with Richard of Oregon.
It's the same crap with "Asian American", what's that supposed to be? If there is one term that totally supports western ignorance towards Asia (as in "everything Asian is the same anyway"), then it's "Asian American".
Or take "Native American". The irony of this term is... there are no "Native Americans" other than those born in America (which means, I call white Americans who have been born there... "Native Americans"). But calling the "Indians" Native Americans totally defies history. They're also just immigrants. They just came a little earlier than the Euro-peons.
The term "African American"... what the hell? Now, if we do that with blacks out of "political correctness", then we must do it with all the others too. Imagine, a "European American". But stop, that's not politically correct! Thus we have to call people German-Italian-English-Irish-Russian-Greek-American.
Or we just call them black and white. Now, I'm for the latter. Really, makes it a lot easier.
In German blacks are still called "Neger". No, this is not synonymous with the English "N" word. But, of course, you don't see it on TV or in any other media anymore, since it's not PC. Media says "Schwarzafrikaner" and "Afroamerikaner", black Africans and Afroamericans. But people on the streets... they still say... "Neger". That or "Schwarzer", Black.
I always say, if this PC crap continues... I won't be able to call an idiot "idiot" anymore.
RACIST AT TV ONE , FIGHT AGAINST THAT KOND OF JOURNALISM
ReplyDeleteYou guys are missing the point. TV One is not supporting one side over the other. They are merely celebrating this historical moment and event in Black History. If Colin Powell had been the Republican Nominee it would be the same coverage. This isnt about Politics its about History. You guys need to relax and celebrate with them over this historic occasion.
ReplyDeleteI understand TV One position and it's cool with me but the complaint I with them and BET is the fact that they don't have any weekly news on they're channel but plenty of Sitcoms and other foolishness.John McCain is his Republican Party have a whole of lot of white stations around the clock to give him some face time, especailly his good talking heads over there at Fox News who has a love affair with him too.
ReplyDeleteBET will be providing equal coverage of both the 2008 Republican and Democratic conventions starting August 28th.
ReplyDeleteThank you for informing some what TV One's purpose is for covering The DNC...the channel is EVERYDAY ALL DAY geared towards African Americans so why change now? Oh, because for them to continue to cover the DNC makes the racist...BS.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to view the DNC and RNC on a channel geared towards African Americans watch BET.It amazes me that you are not raising hell about NO African American shows on any of the major networks. That is the reason we have BET and TV One.
